There were certainly a lot of broken hearts and emotional roller coasters recently, so the Heavens have decided it's time to allow their people to let loose and have some fun for a little while. Through some magic - or possibly just a lot of money - they have managed to rent out an entire private beach for the event so that they won't be interrupted by any Near Shore residents. The beach is beautiful and well-maintained, the ocean goes for as far as the eye can see, and rocky outcroppings offer a handy place to dive into the water on a test of courage.

It's a beautiful summer day, perfect for swimming and cracking watermelons and playing some beach volleyball. There's even some soft music permeating the air so that nothing is every silent on this fun-filled day.

New arrivals, after having been met at the Meeting Hall, would have been immediately redirected to this party. After all, they should be enjoying themselves as well.



Swimwear

Anyone who doesn't have swimwear will be provided with swimwear to fit their needs. Unfortunately, the Heavens don't have access to a lot of swimwear, so you'll likely wind up with something ugly, something old, or something just plain weird.

Playful Fish

The sea critters are excited about the party too. They're happy to swim up to anyone in the water and will even come up to the shallows to take a look at the fun happening on the shore. Toe nibbling and brushes of scales are in your future, so you'd better get used to the idea if you plan on being in the water.

Barbecue

Some basics have been provided, but everyone has been asked to bring a little something to the barbecue as well if they can. So you're more than welcome to grab one of the many grills and start frying things up. Heck, there are even fishing poles available if you feel like hauling in a few of those friendly fish to grill. Additionally, summery drinks have been provided, including iced tea, lemonade, water, and horribly fruity cocktails.

After Dark

Just because the sun is down doesn't mean that the party's stopping! The barbecue will continue well into the night, lit now by the stars and a huge, roaring bonfire. The bonfire is maintained by Amaterasu's shinki and climbs higher than any bonfire has the right to. Also, there are floating lights in the water so that people can continue swimming now that it's dark. And if you happen to get too drunk to go home, don't worry. A white-clad shinki will be happy to put you back to bed at the end of the night. Additionally, some sparklers and small bottle rockets have been provided for your entertainment.

[He'd explain that he's lived overseas for most of his adult life, and is really used to the way Americans in particular address each other... you know, if he remembered. Since he doesn't, all he knows is that he's pretty equally comfortable with either form of address, and just his given name doesn't feel excessively familiar to him coming from someone who isn't Japanese.]

That's very kind of you to offer. I wouldn't want to be an imposition...

[Then again, he doesn't know yet where Bastet's temple is, and he has absolutely no money, so it's not like he can just stay the night at a hotel on the Near Shore or something. He might have to take her up on it, if she's serious.]

It's not an imposition.

[She's emphatic about that. Her temple isn't just her home, it's a library, and a place for people to gather and find help. That's the first thing she's settle on, there.]

But hopefully they'll turn up. I'm afraid I don't know them, myself. I haven't been here all that long.

How long has it been?

Little over a week, I suppose. Long enough for it to sink in that I'm here, but not quite enough to have socialized much.

That's not very long at all... Have you, um. Do you get along with your shinki, so far?

[This is a question that's on his mind for fairly obvious reasons. He's a little anxious about the idea of meeting his own god.]

Well, I'm...sort of in the same boat as you on one. I was told I have a new one, but I haven't run into them yet. Figured they'd end up at my temple one way or another.

[Which, yeah. The rest of her evening is going to be interesting. Figuring out which shinki is supposed to be her new partner...after a few drinks?]

But the one that was assigned to me when I first arrived, one of the Soulless? She's nice. Terse, but nice. I can't think of any problems, so far.

Soulless... someone was telling me about that, before.

[And unsurprisingly, he doesn't find it any less existentially troubling late at night by flickering firelight! Yuuri fidgets a little, looking away from Lara.]

...But she doesn't seem unhappy, at least?

Ah. No. She's definitely not unhappy.

[Lara found it troubling at first too, the whole nature of the soul thing.]

Ingrid reminds me of a valkyrie. She likes fighting, and takes her job seriously. It's alright, I think. I know you're probably nervous, but I think you'll be fine. I've yet to meet an unkind soul here.

That's good to hear.

[He's not so sure about not meeting anyone unkind -- Hakkai seemed like he knew his way around pretty well, and he definitely seemed to imply that there were some gods who were worse to end up with than others -- but Yuuri really doesn't feel like voicing his own worries too much, especially not to a stranger who's being perfectly civil.]

What's it been like in general? Being... being a god?

Oh, I guess much the same as being anyone else stuck here.

[She sighs and leans forward, drawing her knees up and resting her forehead against them. Head bowed, she went on with a little note of exhaustion.]

Confusion about where we are and how we got here, a little bit of terror here and there, and more sitting around than I've done in years. It's alright, though. Helping people, that makes it worth it..

[Yuuri is quiet for a moment, just sort of digesting what she's got to say, fidgeting a little with the bottom hem of his gaudily-colored trunks.]

What kind of things do you help with?

Prayers need answering.

[Which was an unearthly experience to say the least.]

Personally? Prayers related to needing information, or for protection. Things that Athena would want to do. And a few from people I should be looking out for. Fellow archaeologists and the like.
