Who: A hunting knife and an eagle
What: Borderline blundering- Nari hasn't learned it. Neji needs to fix this.
When: June 15
Where: The Far Shore's park
Warnings: None, but will update if something comes along.
✖✖ [It's nine in the morning and Neji fully expects to meet with a child (or at the very least someone near his own age). It'd been a busy last couple of days- not only had he taken it upon himself to obsess over any spell that may be out there for shinki to explore, but the temple of his and the routine of it had been shook. Somewhat. It wasn't a lie that he'd been giving his goddess and her new shinki space. It also wasn't a lie that he didn't bother with avoiding them-- his interests were, at the moment, simply elsewhere. A peace of mind that a certain someone was being taken care of was enough of an incentive to get him out. If only for a while.
And sure. Fine. His idea of teaching is reserved to combat-- but just how difficult can it be to show a new shinki how to make use of a borderline? He can't quite remember who it was that had first shown it to him, but that's all the more reason to believe it's No Big Deal.
The park where he'd agreed to meet 'Nari' does, indeed, have trees.
Neji stands across its entrance as he said he would, his usual attire swapped for all black. He's patient or else bored out of his damn mind what with how still he's apparently committed to standing. And when he finally does spot someone else--
well, it's not a child, that's for sure. Huh.]
Ready?
[He means 'hello'.]

Not like he has much to do anyways. Nari isn't one to bother people to hang out with them. Too much work. Sticking around at home and reading all day was way better.
The voice catches his ears, making him look over and stare.]
... dude, you're dressed like you're going to a funeral. Or you're a goth in the making.
[Hello to you, too.] Got the white eyes down pat. Congrats. Contacts?
no subject
uncommon.
It's a good thing he's been 'alive' in the modern world long enough now to at least understand what 'contacts' may be referring to. Neji decides, against his better judgement maybe, to go with it. He shakes his head.] No.
[And since the funeral comment did strike a nerve... he moves. Come on. Follow.] And it's not our business to attend the funerals; we only aide the suicides. You never answered my question, by the way.
no subject
[.......... WELL that is quite the job. Hm. So there literally was gods for everything. That means there's a coffee god. Awesome.]
I've got nothing against suicide. If the person makes the decision to do that, I got no right to stop them. Knowing there's a god for that is a comfort, I guess. [It's an honest opinion.]
And hell yeah I'm ready. I wasn't supposed to bring anything, was I? Like a notepad or something?
no subject
I think the same.
[--is this the first time he's said any kind of opinion on the matter? Oh well. It's enough and definitely not what they're here for. Not what he's here for. Past the herd of cats is a cliche-as-hell clearing. No trees. Nothing to cut down. Perfect.]
Iie. There isn't much to write down. You'll watch and then you will try it for yourself.
no subject
Please no Hail Satan that'd be weirdOooooooh there's cats. The greatest animals in the world. Those can be petted later. Nari will try not to take one home. What would Simon think? Probably nothing. The dude was chill.]
Okilly dokilly, Teach! The floor is all yours.
[He is in your capable hands!]
no subject
He sighs. Evens his breathing and-] Watch.
[Steps back and glances here and there once more to assure himself there is nothing in the way. Neji doesn't exactly slow the process to make it easier to mimic-- sorry. Index and middle fingers of his right hand form the necessary shape (a lance. nothing to fumble with after a life of weaving signs) and-] Line. [With a straight sweep in front of him, the barrier springs to life. White and sharp, and all hard light. It rises, falls, its wall grows sharp, then full, then
it breaks. Or dies. Whatever.
Neji's eyes are on Nari and his next instruction is, well... about as short as his last.] Aim it anywhere but at me. Go ahead.
no subject
Hmmm... so hold your fingers like you're making air quotes, but only on one hand. Should he be focused on making a line? There wasn't much detail on that one. Thanks, not-goth.] Right.
[So. Two fingers together, straight, think of a line. Don't you use your fingers like this to pretend they are scissors?
Stop.
Think of a line. He nods to himself, turning so he's not aiming at his strange teacher. A deep breath is taken before he even attempts to copy the move.]
Line! [Straight sweep, just like Neji, but... the barrier isn't exactly as pretty as his instructors. Passable. Probably. It rises quickly before it just fizzles out. Needs work.] Huh... Hey. Cool. Pathetic, but cool.
no subject
Try it again.
[No 'good job', not even the insinuation of it in his tone.] While it is possible the presence of ayakashi will strengthen your borderline, it's also possible the demons will only have a field day breaking it and you.
[Because they're both shinki, they're both on the same boat-- emergencies here came straight out of left field, always... 'Cool' will not save a life, 'strong' will. (And excuse him for being so inaffably serious; that frown isn't anything personal.) He nods at Nari, fully expecting cooperation.]
no subject
Wouldn't know. Never seen one.
[As long as Neji was teaching him something useful, Nari doesn't mind being bossed around for now. He tries to focus on something that might help, a faint nagging feeling that there was someone other than himself he wants to protect leaving him with a bit of a headache.
A deep breath clears that up and he focuses on making another borderline. Thinking hard, he sweeps his hand across again.] Line!
[This one rises a bit higher and lasts for a minute or so before crumbling.] Ya know, I'm glad this isn't easy. I think I'd get bored if I'd gotten it the first time.
[Meaning he's entertained enough to keep trying after another pathetic attempt.]
no subject
and thanks, he thinks he prefers the fighting to chasing down lost pets and prayers of that sort. He's also silently impressed and isn't sure it was such a good idea to hold Nari to such a low standard from the beginning but anyway- here he'd expected to have to order another try at the borderline. He observes the next attempt and. Well. He nods.] You have a long way to go yet. [Which is supposed to mean he's doing fine, honestly, but.]
Don't cast it so quickly this next time. Channel your energy to your fingertips, not your entire hands. Be precise.
no subject
Right, right. Be as precise as when you're doing pipping on a cake.
[That might not make sense to Neji. Nari loves baking.
Okay. One more try. Keep a wall in mind, concentrate everything on the fingertips.] Line!
[Taking Neji's instructions actually turns out good in the end. The barrier is higher and stronger than before, and takes a few minutes to crumble.] So I would have died a lot slower that time.
no subject
And, to be fair, if this was a rescue scenario, then Neji supposes he'd have been in good hands. His expression smooths out at the wall flaring in front of him.
And to think that's only a product of entertainment. Also:
No dying.] You could have retreated in that time, or your god could have had the time to wield you and prepared themselves to fight. [Someone's been deaf to the 'not a fighter' portion of this exchange.] A borderline is your first defense, not your only one.
no subject
Fight...]
Dude. I don't even know what my form is so how would I know if someone could use me in a fight? This is probably the only thing I can do. Well... that and for some reason managing to heat up my tea without a microwave. Still figuring that one out.
[But hey. He can make a borderline!]
