Summary: Training sessions for everyone to learn more about their abilities and jobs!

Many people have been wanting to know more about their abilities and what they are required to do here in the Far Shore. So, in conjunction with Bishamonten, the Heavens have seen fit to offer an open training session for everyone to participate in. Here you will be able to learn anything and everything about what you should be able to do and what is expected of you in your new positions.

Bishamon's temple is sweeping and gorgeous, having previously been home to hundreds of shinki. She has graciously offered to hold this training session and will be available to help anyone who needs it.

Equipment

Various kinds of mannequins and dummies have been provided for practice, as well as targets that are either stationary or move, depending on your will. Punching bags, jumping blocks, and a large pool area have also been provided for your use, so that you can find a tool for pretty much anything that you might need to practice. Plenty of practice weapons of various weights, sizes, and shapes are also available upon request from any of the many white-clad shinki that are also attending today.

God Training

Bishamon herself will be the foremost source of information regarding being a god and what is expected of you. It is also encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies. Random groupings can be provided by the mods or you may come up with your own groupings together.

Shinki Training

Various shinki are available to help with shinki training, including Kazuma and all of Bishamon's shinki. Additionally, the white-clad shinki will be more than happy to train you on using the borderline and some of the basics of what is expected of a shinki. It is also encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies. Random groupings can be provided by the mods or you may come up with your own groupings together.

Refreshments

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're even just taking a quick break to cool down. The Heavens want you to stay in good condition!

[Ren nods and glances around like he's trying to be sneaky about this (after all, he doesn't usually show this off to just anyone). Then his body suddenly fades into a dark, featureless shadow that seems to blend into and pop right out of the shadow of the tree.]

Yep. My cats didn't come with my temple either. My shinki brought them home one day. [He waves both of his hands to say "ta-da!"] What do you think? It's a good trick, right?

I think cats just like my big brother. They showed up at our house back home all the time too, once he moved in. I think he gave them fish he caught sometimes.

[ It's said musingly, because while she'd never seen Souji purposefully bring a cat back with him, their numbers had certainly increased the longer he lived with them. But she didn't mind either, because that meant there were more to play with.

Nanako waits with baited breath as she waits for Ren to show her his magic and when he melts into a shadow, her eyes go wide and she claps her hands over her mouth in surprise. ]

Whoa! That's amazing!

[There's a brief look of sourness on Shun's face at the mention of Ren's shinki, because he's pretty sure he knows exactly which shinki he means and isn't any more enamoured with him than he was when Ren still had him. But he lets it slide as Ren turns himself into a shadow, even if he looks vastly less impressed given he's seen the transformation quite a few times by this point.]

It's useful, as well. If there's anything that could hit him in that form, I haven't seen it yet.

[He can still appreciate the practical side of it, though.]

[Ren laughs a little and waves one of his hands through the water bottle sitting next to him just to prove them point.]

I'm sure it's out there somewhere. Every power has a weakness. But you don't have to look at it so practically all the time either.

[Shadow Ren creeps forward a bit and then suddenly turns back into his usual solid self and he leans forward to "whisper" conspiratorially to Nanako.]

I think Kurosak-ki's magic is much better than mine, though.

Can you go through walls and things too?

[ She makes a quiet squeak when he turns solid again right in front of her, but giggles to show she's not really frightened. When he leans in and whispers that, she turns a wide, curious gaze on Shun once more. ]

I think I saw it. Is that what you did to the leaf? [ she asks, directing the question to Shun this time. ]

You know I don't take well to looking at things any other way. [Or at least, Shun's never particularly tried to hide the fact, and Ren is around him often enough to have noticed by this point. It's still hard these days for him to try looking at something in a manner that isn't just practical.

When Nanako directs that question towards him, Shun nods a little in confirmation.]

That's the only thing I can do that anyone would call "magic".

[Ren hums a little as he thinks about that.]

I don't know. I haven't tried that yet.

[He may have had a thought about certain other more gruesome things he might be able to pass his hand through and decided he didn't want to think about it anymore (although Shun would probably appreciate the practicality of it).

He nods a little as Nanako hits on exactly the "magic" he was thinking of, although he is a teeny tiny bit disappointed that she's already seen it so he probably won't show it off now.]

It's really amazing, isn't it?

It is!

[ She still looks excited over it, even if she had learned about it earlier. ]

The people here that can do magic make it look really neat! There's lots of different kinds!

[ She may have been doing a lot of research of her own. ]

[While Shun is more than used to having an audience and attention in certain situations and deals with it well then, it's not usually quite this immediate, and he shifts somewhat uncomfortably at the praise.]

It's just an ability. It's not even really mine.

[It's available to him, so of course he's going to use it for practical purposes, but he still doesn't really feel any of the powers conferred on him as a god are so much his as just something that comes from being here.

Nanako is right enough on her point, though, and he hums slightly in agreement.]

Even the people who have powers from their own worlds instead of being given them here seem to have a good variety of them.

[Luckily for Shun and his embarrassment, they've stumbled upon a subject Ren likes very much, so that's the end of his praise for the moment.]

Really? What kind of things have you seen? I haven't actually seen very many...

[ Nanako hums before start naming things she's seen off on her fingers. ] Mmmm, I met someone who could make fire start in his hand. And one of my friends can fly. And someone else has yoo... youkai magic? Oh! And Chikusa can do things with a yo-yo. I don't know if that's magic, but it looks like it!

[While Shun doesn't name off his fingers, he does have at least a few examples Nanako doesn't seem to have raised.] I've seen shapeshifters, people who can summon weapons from nothing, and someone with some kind of weird shockwave power. And I've seen some of the shinki who were here before us sing warding spells.

[Despite the look of envious awe and amazement on his face, you'd better believe he's committing every single one of those to memory. Of course, it would be more useful to have names to go with them...but he'll take what he can get.]

Everyone's abilities are so interesting and varied! Most of what I've seen has been fire related. Oh, and my former shinki could summon a little hedgehog and some spiky balls to attack me with.

[That's not a disturbing thing to say so cheerily or anything...]

Have you figured out what your magic is yet, Nanako-san?

[ her expression falls and she scuffs a foot glumly against the grass as she shakes her head. ]

No. Not yet. I don't know what I can do, or if I have a power. I've been trying really hard to learn what it is, but I can't do anything yet.

[Though Shun has a much less cheery attitude towards Ren's former shinki attacking him, he can't really police how Ren chooses to frame it, so he just lets out a somewhat dismissive sigh and lets him go on.

Nanako's obvious disappointment over not knowing her power yet draws his attention well enough, though, and he crouches down closer to her level with a look as serious as ever.]

If all of us have one, then you do too. Keep trying and you'll find it. [One way or another, though Shun certainly hopes it doesn't take her ending up in some kind of life-threatening situation.]

[Ren smiles and nods encouragingly as Shun says his bit.]

It took me a long time to figure out what mine was too. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Did it?

[ She still looks a little uncertain, but their encouragement means a lot, especially when they tell her they didn't know theirs right away either. Most people here seemed to and it's been an almost constant worry lately. One only made all the more obvious today when she was here among all the other gods training their abilities. ]

[...Shun can't quite answer that one as well as Ren can, because he actually did discover his power very soon after he got here. That was only because he'd pretty much dedicated what attention he could spare on that first day to figuring it out, though.]

It's not uncommon for it to take a while. It's the same with shinki learning things like borderlines.

I didn't even know I was supposed to have something like that at first. [Because he zoned out during that part of the orientation oops.] I found out by accident. So you're already way ahead of me.

People have said they've found out by accident.

[ She mulls that over thoughtfully for a second, because maybe that's the secret? Maybe she'd been too careful so far? Maybe she'll talk to Souji about it later... ]

I'll keep trying to figure it out, anyway.

Probably in situations where they've needed to use it. Sometimes things like that do come naturally. [You never know your own skill until you have to use it to save your life, as Shun is intimately familiar with. That's just his assumption on what finding a power accidentally would mean, though.]

As long as you don't give up, nobody can begrudge you that. [She's trying, at least, and he has to think that only someone with a complete lack of decency would bother a kid this young about that sort of thing - and when Shun starts thinking in terms of decency, there's something very wrong.]

[Ren nods along with Nanako's determination to keep looking and then Shun's assessment of how said accidental discoveries came to be--and then abruptly realizes that maybe the two things shouldn't go together in this case.]

Just don't do anything really dangerous to figure it out, okay?

[Look, normally he'd be all for that, and if she were a few years older he probably still would be but...this is probably a good time to be more rational about that.]

[ She looks a little sheepish for a moment, because no, she'd never think of doing something reckless like that.

....Much. ]

I'll be careful!

[Ren's basically expressed what Shun was thinking here, so he nods slightly in agreement with the comment. Ideally, even if something dangerous does happen that needs her power, Nanako won't be alone in dealing with it.]

You can always ask someone to help you if you need it. [A gentle reminder to what he said earlier, since she had seemed so surprised that it was okay to do that.]
