Sword and Shield [CLOSED]
Who: Hijikata and Niles
When: June 27th (backdated a bit)
Where: Hachiman's shrine
What: Training!
Warnings: ...Honestly, these characters are their own warnings, but other than those, probably none.
It's funny.
Because truth be told, Hijikata was never the one of his friends who was cut out to be a martial arts teacher. Too pragmatic, not willing enough to accept any school's formalities or stick to one style at a time, he'd never properly mastered any style of swordsmanship. (Then again, he outlived nearly all of his Properly Trained and accredited friends, so there was probably something to say for his approach.) And he never really considered his temperament much good for teaching.
But while he'd initially expected that he and Souji would be the only ones getting use out of the dojo attached to his shrine, the man who ought to be on his way now isn't the only person Hijikata's ended up offering this sort of guidance to here.
Well, it can't be helped. Souji's too rough on beginners to make a good teacher for people who don't already know a fair amount, and what else is he supposed to do? Just let half the new gods and shinki stay helpless?
And this one... When he heard his reason, Hijikata knew he wasn't going to turn him away. He of all people can understand that feeling -- dedication to someone who deserves better than what you can give them and determination to become stronger for their sake lie so close to his own heart that there really wasn't any way to avoid seeing a bit of himself in the man's request.
So he's in the dojo, waiting on Niles to arrive. Until he does, Hijikata just busies himself with some of his usual exercises, running through a few old drills with a heavily weighted wooden sword, his bare feet light and quiet on the grass mats of the floor in spite of the solidity of his build.

no subject
And there's something in him telling him that if he wants to be good enough? He needs to find others in the areas he lacks. And Hijikata made up for Niles's lack of swords. So... hey. Why not, right? The worst that could happen was that he was terrible at it. And then he would just get better. Provided that Hijikata was willing to train him further.
His own outfit isn't going to work for this, he learned. He got himself some black workout shorts and a white t-shirt. Anything that wouldn't overheat him. His hair back in a small ponytail, he enters the dojo, blinking.
First though, damn he's hot.
Second thought is to ignore the first thought. Being hot is good, but he needs to train, dammit.
"I'm here."
