[closed] There's Always So Much To Do
Who: Axel, Chikusa, and Ken - Hestia and Shinki thereof
When: Late June 26th - Backdated
Where: Hestia's temple
What: Chikusa and Ken find their absentee god conked out in the temple sanctuary
Warnings: Talk of injury
[Axel wasn't there when his shinki set out to Greece. That wasn't so odd, he generally took a laissez faire approach to their lives. What was odd was that he hadn't been seen for a week, though he gave the excuse before he vanished that he was going to tend to the sacred fire.
What's even more worrying is that when they come back, the fires in their home, usually burning merrily, have settled to embers. The whole house is dark, as if the power that supports the lights has waned. And in the distance, from the end of the long hallway that leads to the sanctuary, a faint meowing can be heard as the shinki enter the temple.
The meowing gets louder as they go deeper into the tenebrous temple, and there's light coming from the doors to the sanctuary. It's not hard to open the doors, heavy though they are, as if years of movement and regular greasing have kept the hinges fluid. However, this time one does not even need to put in that effort. One of the doors has been left ajar, a usually impermissible state of affairs.
Inside, there's a roaring blaze in the brazier; the room is very warm, especially on a summer night like this. But that's not the most important point of interest. Possibly more relevant is the god lying unconscious on the floor, a two-tailed kitten mewling hungrily from next to him. The cat goes to circle the two shinki, still meowing, but Axel doesn't so much as budge.]

[When he finally makes it to the temple's sanctuary, an actual noise of clear distress tumbles out of his mouth even as he stumbles to kneel besides their god. The bakeneko makes a verbal complaint- with actual words this time- but Chikusa waves it aside.]
Axel-sama!
[Hastily, he starts to check his vitals.]

Once they're inside the temple, though, it doesn't matter if Ken's smart enough to realize that the dim lights mean something's wrong with Axel; Chikusa, the smart one, panics, and that's more than enough to prompt Ken to follow suit. He tears after his fellow shinki, catching up and keeping pace. but not outdistancing. He's being drawn to the same place and could outrun Chikusa if he wanted - he might be shorter, but he's more physically fit and could Cheetah Channel besides - but it's better to arrive with Chikusa. Chikusa's the one who will know what to do when they get there, a fact he knows without even the trouble of having to think.
He skids to a stop on the opposite side of Axel from Chikusa, reaching for him until Chikusa beats him to it. Then he checks himself, letting Chikusa look over Axel and all but whining in distress, rocking in place with restless energy and nothing to do with it.]
What's wrong with him, byon?!
no subject
And it seems just that. He's not stiff or seizing, he's just out cold, lying against the warm stone. If he were narcoleptic, it'd make sense, but he isn't, as far as anyone knows. He's at least not wearing the same clothes he was when last they saw him; the master bedroom is literally next door to the sanctuary, and it'd be easy for him to change even if he were actively monitoring the fire.
Above him, the aforementioned sacred fire flickers and twists, but does not go out. It's burning happily, producing smoke from no fuel as always, which leaves through the hole in the ceiling, which has in turn a protective covering to keep the rain out. It's the standard setup, but... if it was like this, why would Axel have needed to care for it? The plot thickens.]

[Ken’s keens snap him out of it, and Chikusa takes a breath. No time to worry now.]
He’s fine, just unconscious. Kong Channel, now, so we can take him to his room.
no subject
It's lucky the temple is decently roomy, so that Ken doesn't have any difficulty getting through the doors with his Kong Channel stature. Once they get to Axel's room, Ken sets Axel down on the bed as gently as he's able.]
Now what, byon? [He asks this over his shoulder, not looking away from Axel. He's watching for any sign of movement, any hint that Axel might be waking up. He reaches for Axel after a moment, notices the sheer size of the hand he's reaching with, and stops himself long enough to remove the Kong cartridge again.]

Or not slowly, as the cat literally jumps onto his crotch the second his eyes flicker. She may only weigh a few pounds, but she also has little paws, so it's uncomfortably high pressure. His eyes snap open, and he sits up slightly before flopping back down, too tired to even move the animal currently circling on his lap before she settles down into a purring lump.
His eyes drift half shut again, but not before he notices Ken and Chikusa. His voice, when he speaks, is quieter than normal, and tired.]
... Is the fire still burning...?
no subject
[Axel suddenly jerking up sure as hell gets his attention, and Chikusa twits around from where he's taking some water from Ken. IT sloshes over his arms, but it's okay.]
Axel-sama! Lay down- the fire is fine, but are you?
no subject
[What kappa? What fire? What water? What cat? Ken's focus is entirely on one person, and that's his god.]
I totally lost this tag, heh... /sobs
[His eyes are threatening to drift shut again, but he puts in a little effort and they stay at least partially open.]
How was Greece?
no subject
It went well. Are you hungry? Do you feel nauseous?
no subject
Ken knows they both know more than him; he doesn't necessarily bother qualifying how much more they may know in comparison to each other.]
On hiatus but I'll try to finish up old threads
I'm just tired. Yeah, I guess food could be good. I'm... sorry about this. [He swallows.] They weren't my divine powers, they were my normal abilities. I put too much of myself in them.
[He didn't mean for it to get this bad, didn't mean to worry them. He just... He didn't want anything to happen to the sacred flame, didn't want to fail at his second chance.]
