It's a bit like a game, making himself match Ekko's pace, only to have to dart forward moments later whenever Ekko blinks. Occassionally, he throws in a cartwheel or a flip, just to keep himself entertained, and to show off.

Once they reach the end of a lap, he asks, "Do you think you can handle a mile?"
