With Tanabata drawing close, the Heavens have decided that there is nothing wrong with a little celebration for the annual occasion. So they have invited everyone on the Far Shore as well as a large number of people from the Near Shore to attend a festival for Tanabata. Tanabata festivals are not uncommon in this area, so the Near Shore residents are none the wiser, though some of them are a little uncertain about where this street they've never heard of popped up from...

Tanabata is a festival held to celebrate the one time a year that the lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi can meet across the vast expanse of the Milky Way. Many birds have been working their tail feathers off to create a bridge for the two lovebirds and that bridge - perhaps unsurprisingly - touches down on this street, in the middle of the festival.

The Heavens have prepared entertainment, food stalls, and as many tanzaku as might be needed for everyone to write down wishes, along with plenty of bamboo stalks to hang the wishes from.

New arrivals will find themselves ushered to the festival and offered traditional clothing after their normal briefing at the Meeting Hall.



Stalls

There are festival stalls of every kind present, all run by shinki dressed in white robes and bearing the golden chrysanthemum of Amaterasu. Many of them seem a little bruised still, but they are happy to smile for anyone who comes to the stall they are running. There is food, games, and drinks available of all kinds, so feel free to roam around to your heart's content sampling everything that you can.

Performance

A large stage has been erected at one end of the festival street. The Heavens know that there are many talented gods and shinki present, so they are more than willing to clear spots in the scheduling for those people to perform. Anytime a Far Shore resident isn't on stage, there are plenty of Near Shore acts to go on, ranging the gambit from traditional music and instruments all the way to a rock band that has somehow found themselves here for the celebration.

Wishes

Pieces of paper called tanzaku have been strewn about a number of bamboo shoots all over the festival. There are brightly colored decorations on the bamboo and the papers themselves exist in every color of the rainbow as well. Attendees are encouraged to write down any wishes they may have and hang them from the bamboo, a normal Tanabata tradition. Wishes can range from 'I want a soda' to 'World peace' and anything in between. Obviously, some of these wishes may not be able to be granted during the time of the festival, but gods and shinki alike are encouraged to answer any wishes they can as well.

NOTE: Please report any wishes your characters answers to the first comment on this post along with a link to where the wish is answered. There will be small bonuses awarded for answered wishes.

The Bridge

As stated previously, the bridge that will allow Orihime to meet her lover touches down in the very center of the festival's street. It may be made of tiny pieces, but the bridge itself is sturdy. While it may not be able to take just anyone who sets foot on it across the Milky Way, you are allowed to walk along the bridge yourself, though you will always find yourself turned around after a short time and heading back towards where you stepped on. Lovers in particular are encouraged to walk the bridge together to deepen their bonds, but be cautioned! If you walk onto the bridge with someone, you might start feeling affectionately towards them even if they are your sworn enemy! Such is the power of love on this day.

[Homura is dressed up nicely for the festival. This... is a lot more people than she's used to being around.

She's quiet as she pokes around the stalls. Occasionally she stops to consider a small accessory. Especially if it's pink.]

[She looks at the bamboo trees and the colorful paper. There are a lot of wishes here, and while she doesn't particularly interested in those... she writes her own.

[ Nanako appears behind her as if out of nowhere, dressed in the yukata Kanji had made for her for the occasion, her hair done up in pink ribbons. She smiles brightly as she peers around Homura, her eyes widening as she spots the pretty things the other girl had been looking for. ]

Oooh. Are you buying someone a gift?

If you'd like something.

[Nanako looks cute all dressed up like this.]

[ Surprise mingles with delight on Nanako's face at that question. ]

Me? You were looking for a gift for me? Really?

Hoeee? [ She can't help but stop, because look at that beautiful girl! She wish she could be as cool-looking... and her long hair is so amazing! She's dressed up in this frilly thing cause she was caught at a wrong moment when she was brought here. She's new, so... might as well get used to meeting people, right? She'll start with someone her own age! ]

Hello! [ And she comes right up to Homura. ] Your yukata is so pretty...!

[She doesn't jump, but she does quietly side-eye at somebody who comes so close to her.]

[ Oh, the quiet type... she should be careful! She smiled to Homura. ]

My name is Sakura! What's your name, if you don't mind!

[ Tsuna can't help but to take a peek at Homura's wish as she places it on the trees. It's an interesting wish, and it makes him a bit curious.]

U-um...excuse me. Your wish...I was just wondering if you really like it here.

[timeshields]

[She aims a glare at him.]

Why are you looking at other people's wishes?

[Naoto happens to be standing nearby, checking out the same stall's wares. Her curiosity is piqued when she hears the rather elegant looking young woman in the purple, flowery yukata. Naoto briefly turns her attention back to the table before finally resolving to try and make small talk.]

Shopping for a friend?

[Typically, Naoto's not a big fan of small talk. But under her present circumstances -- finding herself in a strange, new place and knowing absolutely no one here, it probably couldn't hurt to at least try to make some acquaintances.]

[She's at a stall with different hair clips and hair decorations. It's the pink ones that really stand out to her.

There's a little nod as she continues looking over them.]

[Yukina turns at the question, and bows on reflex, to apologize for interrupting Homura's day.]

I would like it... [She isn't sure what it is, necessarily, except it's a lighter shade of the red ornament in her hair. She smiles brightly.]

I don't know if that helps you, but if it was darker or went with my clothes better, I think I would like to wear it. So that's someone who likes it!

[While Davesprite's trying not to be too lurky about the whole wishes thing, he also doesn't really know how it works, so he's been eying off some people Extremely Sneakily to try and piece it together. Homura just kind of happens to be there at the time, and when he notices her wish, he feels the pit of what excuse he has for a stomach clench, because...honestly, he can relate to that a lot more than he'd like to admit.

Acting as if he didn't see it, Davesprite drifts over with a wave.]

So I've been trying to figure out this whole wish thing all night, but I've still got approximately fuck nothing on what this has to do with the festival.

[She has people he she cares about, More than one, which is new but not terrible. At least she doesn't look surprised when Davesprite hovers nearby.]

Writing wishes like this is part of Tanabata. It's a custom and tradition now.

Not that we must. [But writing down a wish could make it come true, not that she expects anybody to be able to fulfill it.]

[Standing next to Homura at the stand is a woman in a black and floral print Yukata. She's busy looking through a few cute cat trinkets but at the question her motorcycle helmet turns to look at the pink hairclip that she's holding.

Celty just shrugs in response, unsure, but hopeful that it might go over well for this stranger's sake.]

[She looks over when she notices the shrug.]

She seems to like pink.

[ It's by chance that Souji finds Homura, having come to scan over the wishes and see if there was anything that called out to him. But it lets him catch what she writes, and it... hits him pretty hard, to be honest. He knew since he first saw her memories that they were painfully alike, alone in their youth and then surrounded by friends that meant the world to them. In a way, he thinks he could've become Homura if he'd lost Nanako - if he'd lost any of his friends along the way.

He approaches after a moment of consideration, getting a slip of paper to write on, as well.

There's no attempt to hide what he writes, his handwriting crisp and neat, before he tucks it in just above Homura's.

"For my loved ones to always be happy." ]

[Homura had few friends in life and her very first one was the one she was willing to do anything for. She would rewind time and try to change fate over and over again if it meant the simple chance to save her from her own nature.

She doesn't remember Madoka anymore, but that same space is filled by Souji and Nanako now.

When Souji comes over, she studies his request.

She's not everyone, not for somebody who's as open as Souji. It's presumptuous to even think it applies to her.

But.... She'd like it to.]

[She smiles.]

Was it hard to pick a wish, though?

[Homura nods. It doesn't bother her if anybody sees this particular wish she made.]

No. I know what I want.

[Kanji and Homura haven't spent a lot of time together since his recent arrival for a variety of reasons, but when he spots her browsing the stalls at the festival and sees that she's wearing the hairpiece he'd made, he can't help giving a crooked little smile. Souji had been the one to pass it on to her, but seeing it helps to make him brave enough to try and bridge the gap-- just a little bit.

He hears her questioning herself once he's close enough, and a quick look at the flash of pink in her hand is enough to tell him who 'she' is.]

You lookin' for something for Nanako-chan?

[Oh it's Kanji. Homura has yet to form any opinion on her housemate, he seems to flee every time they end up in a room together. She doesn't actually mind it one way or the other.

She inclines her her head in agreement.]

I am. She likes pink, right?
