With Tanabata drawing close, the Heavens have decided that there is nothing wrong with a little celebration for the annual occasion. So they have invited everyone on the Far Shore as well as a large number of people from the Near Shore to attend a festival for Tanabata. Tanabata festivals are not uncommon in this area, so the Near Shore residents are none the wiser, though some of them are a little uncertain about where this street they've never heard of popped up from...

Tanabata is a festival held to celebrate the one time a year that the lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi can meet across the vast expanse of the Milky Way. Many birds have been working their tail feathers off to create a bridge for the two lovebirds and that bridge - perhaps unsurprisingly - touches down on this street, in the middle of the festival.

The Heavens have prepared entertainment, food stalls, and as many tanzaku as might be needed for everyone to write down wishes, along with plenty of bamboo stalks to hang the wishes from.

New arrivals will find themselves ushered to the festival and offered traditional clothing after their normal briefing at the Meeting Hall.



Stalls

There are festival stalls of every kind present, all run by shinki dressed in white robes and bearing the golden chrysanthemum of Amaterasu. Many of them seem a little bruised still, but they are happy to smile for anyone who comes to the stall they are running. There is food, games, and drinks available of all kinds, so feel free to roam around to your heart's content sampling everything that you can.

Performance

A large stage has been erected at one end of the festival street. The Heavens know that there are many talented gods and shinki present, so they are more than willing to clear spots in the scheduling for those people to perform. Anytime a Far Shore resident isn't on stage, there are plenty of Near Shore acts to go on, ranging the gambit from traditional music and instruments all the way to a rock band that has somehow found themselves here for the celebration.

Wishes

Pieces of paper called tanzaku have been strewn about a number of bamboo shoots all over the festival. There are brightly colored decorations on the bamboo and the papers themselves exist in every color of the rainbow as well. Attendees are encouraged to write down any wishes they may have and hang them from the bamboo, a normal Tanabata tradition. Wishes can range from 'I want a soda' to 'World peace' and anything in between. Obviously, some of these wishes may not be able to be granted during the time of the festival, but gods and shinki alike are encouraged to answer any wishes they can as well.

The Bridge

As stated previously, the bridge that will allow Orihime to meet her lover touches down in the very center of the festival's street. It may be made of tiny pieces, but the bridge itself is sturdy. While it may not be able to take just anyone who sets foot on it across the Milky Way, you are allowed to walk along the bridge yourself, though you will always find yourself turned around after a short time and heading back towards where you stepped on. Lovers in particular are encouraged to walk the bridge together to deepen their bonds, but be cautioned! If you walk onto the bridge with someone, you might start feeling affectionately towards them even if they are your sworn enemy! Such is the power of love on this day.

[Her face doesn't show much emotion, but there's the slightest hint of bafflement.]

Why would it?

If you don't remember your age, then you might not remember your birthday... and how could you celebrate it? I'm sure people who care for Homura-san would want to spend such a special day with her.

[timeshields]

I don't remember that either. What does it matter?

I spend every day with the people I care about.

[magickmistress]

That's good! But a birthday is extra special. It's just a fun way to concentrate on how other people are happy and lucky to have you in their life.

It's like my best friend, Tomoyo-chan! I spend almost every day with her, but I'm always excited about her birthday. Somehow, on those special days, it's like all your love is amplified!

I know if Homura-san was my friend, I'd want to be able to do that, too!

[timeshields]

[That seems kind of... incorrect, but she doesn't know why.]

So that's how it is... I should ask them when their birthdays are.

[magickmistress]

I'm sure they'd like that.

Who is your god, Homura-san?

[timeshields]

His name is Souji.

[magickmistress]

Souji...

I haven't met him yet, but he must be a spectacular god! I can tell just by looking at you!

[timeshields]

He's the best.

[Which is what most shinki would say about their own gods, but she says it with all the conviction in the world.]

[magickmistress]

I don't have a shinki myself, but I hope they're as steadfast as you, Homura-san! [ Wow, this girl is totally amazing! ]

You were looking through the stalls pretty hard! Are you looking for something?

[timeshields]

If you're lucky.

I'm looking for a gift. It's for my god's little sister.

[magickmistress]

Oh! Do you need any help? What is her favorite color?

[timeshields]

I would appreciate it.

Pink.

[magickmistress]

Oh! I should definitely be able to help! Pink is my favorite color!

[ She starts scouring the stalls herself, humming in thought. ]

Maybe you could get her something for her hair, like really decorative bows! The kinds will little charms dangling from them!

[timeshields]

[She watches Sakura as she looks through them.]

Are those your favorite kinds?

[magickmistress]

I usually wear my hair in pigtails like this, so I actually prefer pink hair-ties with charms, instead of bows! And they have cute things on them like little cake slices or hearts and stars!

But either one is really cute.

[timeshields]

... Stars or hearts would be nice.

[magickmistress]

Stars look good on any girl! And they're a way of saying someone is special! [ She looked towards the large display before selecting some pink hair ties with a bow and glittering plastic star charm dangling on it. She held it put to Homura to take a look. ]

What do you think about these?

[timeshields]

How is that?

[She'll take the hair ties and consider them as she waits for the answer.]

[magickmistress]

Hmmm, I guess it's because stars are important! Calling someone a star means they're bright, and beautiful, and you admire them! And stars can guide you when you feel like you need them most.

This is for your god's little sister, right? I bet Souji-san would think of his little sister as a star.

[timeshields]

When I need them the most...?

[Hm.]

I'd call Souji a star.

[magickmistress]

I bet Souji's sister has amazing qualities of her own that you might look to one day. She probably knows Souji-san better than anyone else. Who knows when you might need her help!

What is Souji-san the god of?

[timeshields]

I won't deny that.

He's the reincarnation of the god Izanagi.

[magickmistress]

Oh, I've heard of Izunagi! Wow, he's so important! Yes! No wonder you're god is so amazing, Homura-san!
