With Tanabata drawing close, the Heavens have decided that there is nothing wrong with a little celebration for the annual occasion. So they have invited everyone on the Far Shore as well as a large number of people from the Near Shore to attend a festival for Tanabata. Tanabata festivals are not uncommon in this area, so the Near Shore residents are none the wiser, though some of them are a little uncertain about where this street they've never heard of popped up from...

Tanabata is a festival held to celebrate the one time a year that the lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi can meet across the vast expanse of the Milky Way. Many birds have been working their tail feathers off to create a bridge for the two lovebirds and that bridge - perhaps unsurprisingly - touches down on this street, in the middle of the festival.

The Heavens have prepared entertainment, food stalls, and as many tanzaku as might be needed for everyone to write down wishes, along with plenty of bamboo stalks to hang the wishes from.

New arrivals will find themselves ushered to the festival and offered traditional clothing after their normal briefing at the Meeting Hall.



Stalls

There are festival stalls of every kind present, all run by shinki dressed in white robes and bearing the golden chrysanthemum of Amaterasu. Many of them seem a little bruised still, but they are happy to smile for anyone who comes to the stall they are running. There is food, games, and drinks available of all kinds, so feel free to roam around to your heart's content sampling everything that you can.

Performance

A large stage has been erected at one end of the festival street. The Heavens know that there are many talented gods and shinki present, so they are more than willing to clear spots in the scheduling for those people to perform. Anytime a Far Shore resident isn't on stage, there are plenty of Near Shore acts to go on, ranging the gambit from traditional music and instruments all the way to a rock band that has somehow found themselves here for the celebration.

Wishes

Pieces of paper called tanzaku have been strewn about a number of bamboo shoots all over the festival. There are brightly colored decorations on the bamboo and the papers themselves exist in every color of the rainbow as well. Attendees are encouraged to write down any wishes they may have and hang them from the bamboo, a normal Tanabata tradition. Wishes can range from 'I want a soda' to 'World peace' and anything in between. Obviously, some of these wishes may not be able to be granted during the time of the festival, but gods and shinki alike are encouraged to answer any wishes they can as well.

The Bridge

As stated previously, the bridge that will allow Orihime to meet her lover touches down in the very center of the festival's street. It may be made of tiny pieces, but the bridge itself is sturdy. While it may not be able to take just anyone who sets foot on it across the Milky Way, you are allowed to walk along the bridge yourself, though you will always find yourself turned around after a short time and heading back towards where you stepped on. Lovers in particular are encouraged to walk the bridge together to deepen their bonds, but be cautioned! If you walk onto the bridge with someone, you might start feeling affectionately towards them even if they are your sworn enemy! Such is the power of love on this day.

What? Seriously? You must be one of those weird guys from the whatever-ages then. Nice. Wanna see how to shoot?

[He picks up another gun, attempting to twirl it. But... it's tethered. So he just gets a little wrapped in it. But tries to play it cool. Dammit.]

[That's not how you charm a girl Lance, gosh.

But a smooth-fail like that is kind of charming, and earns him a light-hearted laugh out of her.]

Surely you don't use it like that, right? [But, she's still smiling, this is Fine.] I want to see, though! [Show me! Show me!]

[Oh thank goodness she isn't immediately turned off! Lance manages to hike his grin back into place and untangles himself quickly, aiming the gun at the bottles on the other end of the stand.]

With pleasure, m'lady.

[And in two shots he knocks over the whole pyramid. How's THAT for a sharpshooter?]

['M'lady', Lance, no...........

Regardless of his continued attempts at looking suave that fall short, Soleil pays pretty close attention to how he holds the gun, his stance as he fires it off, the ridiculously well-aimed shot-!] Whoa! [The sharpest of shooters!] Look at that, you got 'em all at once!

[He must be pretty good at this!]

[Yessssssssss she's impressed!! Lance smirks and blows over the barrel of the gun. This time he actually makes it look pretty cool.]

Just a normal day for me, honestly. That's just how good I am.

[mersunary]

[Sometimes you gotta be cool. It has to happen sooner or later, right?]

Do you use one of these a lot, then? [It's the kind of thing that would make a good weapon with the right projectiles, though she herself is far more fond of closer combat than anything so ranged.] That's so cool!

[isayvol]

[Oh man, he's cool!! Score one for Lance!]

Hehe, yeah! I'm a regular sharpshooter~

[He rubs a finger under his nose, looking very pleased with himself.]

[And, really, she is genuinely impressed over it! Nice work Lance!]

Okay, let me try now! [She'd... probably not going to be anywhere near as good, but she's got a competitive fire lit in her mind now! She's gotta nail this!!]

[isayvol]

[Oh man, oh man!

Scenes of romantic movies he's watched play in his head - him standing behind her and showing her how to hold the gun....!!

Ahhhh, no! He shakes his head to pull himself out of it and then promptly holds the gun out to her.]

After you, m'lady.

[mersunary]

[All right, yeah, that didn't look too hard when he did it, so once she takes the gun from him, it's just a matter of figuring out the most comfortable way of holding it, right? It's not like anything she's used to, but let's see...]

And you aim it like - oh! There's a little bit at the end here, is that to help in aiming it...?

[She lightly taps the sight of it with her index finger. It seems like it would kind of be in the way, otherwise.]

[isayvol]

You got it! And you wanna make sure you hold it up..... here.

[He stands behind her, reaching around her to hold the gun up, butt to her shoulder.]

Now, if this were a normal gun, there'd be a kick. This thing's got nothing, though.

[mersunary]

[So, in theory, you keep it up by your shoulder to stabilize it, huh...? That's pretty cool!]

Okay, got it. [Use the notch up there to aim, then. It looked like he aimed to take out some of those lower bottles, so that's where she'll set her sights as well. Pull the trigger, and... Pop!

The cork fires out of the gun, smacking into the bottles with a satisfying 'plop' and toppling... a couple of them.]

Huh? That only knocked a few down!

[What did she do differently?? Too mysterious!!]

[He claps as she shoots down a couple.]

Nice shot!

[Ah, but she's bummed. He laughs lightly and points at one of the full stacks.]

You have to aim it juuuuuust right to knock 'em all down. They're tricky like that.

[Hmmm...!]

Okay, I'll try again, then!

[Such determination! She won't be daunted by a simple game like this!! After the bottles are set back up - because what's the point of knocking them all down in multiple turns, honestly - she levels the gun once more, attempting to concentrate even harder on aiming for the right spot.

It might be obvious, perhaps, that she's starting to take this a little more seriously than one might expect out of a carnival game. Oh well?]

[Cute.

Lance gently reaches over her and holds her hands along with the gun, directing her softly.]

Take a deep breath before you pull the trigger. Alright?

[Ah, he's helping! Hm, well, if this goes over well this time, she'll just have to do it herself again to make sure it wasn't by his doing! She really wants to conquer this challenge by her own power, but if he's so willing to offer up help... maybe using it isn't a bad idea, necessarily.]

Got it.

[A deep breath is taken, in as she steadies her aim, and out again as she pulls the trigger. The cork, once more, hits one of the bottles at the base squarely. The pyramid of bottles topples over...

Except one that defiantly swivels and pivots against gravity a few times before balancing back upwards.]

Ah-! [Even closer than last time!!]

[Lance lets out a low whistle, letting go of her and stepping back.]

Nice shot! You keep practicing and maybe someday you'll be as good as me!

[Dude, cool your ego.]

[mersunary]

[Okay no that makes it an official challenge...!]

I will! [Oh... oh boy.] I'll master this thing, you just watch! [Well, hey, at least she simply sounds enthusiastic about it instead of antagonistic?]

[....oh IT'S ON. Lance immediately smirks in a cocky sort of way.]

Heh. Yeah. I'll be waiting for your challenge, little missy.
