[closed] strong like a family,

Who: The gods & shinki residing at Izanagi's temple!
When: July 5th - July 9th
Where: Izanagi's Temple
What: Team Izanagi's living situation is changing up again with the arrival of a new shinki for Ptah, who also happens to be a friend from home.

evening of the 5th:
[When Kanji returns to the house after the day's festivities, it's with Naoto in tow-- and being as new to this place as she is, he feels guilty about having to excuse himself almost immediately, but he has to talk to Souji-- alone. This isn't the first time Souji has seen someone besides Nanako or Kanji himself turn up from home, but Kanji isn't sure there's any precedent for what to do. He tells Naoto to make herself comfortable and puts water on for tea before he goes searching through the house itself, calling for Souji at the top of his lungs.

'Quiet' has never really been a thing for him.]

Yo, Souji-senpai! You back yet? We gotta talk! It's, uh-- real important!

[Like real important, buddy.]
((OOC: Feel free to use this as a house mingle log for the days listed! Top-levels or misc threads welcome and encouraged.))

You're here to help your god, and Souji likes him.

[Which obviously means she has to help her be a good shinki.]

We could look for an ayakashi to practice on, or something else you want to keep away from you.

Shinki can sense ayakashi. When we're in vessel form we have 360-degree vision.
fortune_detective: (I mean if you say so)

[While Naoto's often for experiential learning on the go, the idea that they should go look for ayakashi causes some hesitance.]

Is that safe? The two of us going out alone searching for ayakashi to practice on?

[personal profile] timeshields 2017-05-17 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't have to be an ayakashi. Just something you don't want close.

Like a roach.
fortune_detective: (that's interesting)

[personal profile] fortune_detective 2017-05-17 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
A- a roach?

[So then borderlines were not specifically about repelling ayakashi alone necessarily.]

So a borderline can be used against pretty much anything then?
timeshields: (Hope you have a lot of nice things to)

[personal profile] timeshields 2017-05-18 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know if it'll keep a roach at bay. But the feelings you have toward it and ayakashi are the same. Fear, hatred, wanting to keep it as far away as possible.
fortune_detective: (Considering)

[personal profile] fortune_detective 2017-05-21 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
So borderlines are fueled by emotions. It's more than just the thought of keeping something away, it's the desire to.
timeshields: (52)

[personal profile] timeshields 2017-05-21 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That's correct. Emotions seem to fuel the line.
fortune_detective: (An even response)

[personal profile] fortune_detective 2017-05-22 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
So the more powerful the emotion being drawn on, anger or fear or disgust, the stronger the borderline will be?
timeshields: (The existential equivalent of pink eye)

[personal profile] timeshields 2017-05-23 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
As far as I can tell, yes. The stronger the emotion, the stronger the borderline.
fortune_detective: (Prefer to be by myself)

[personal profile] fortune_detective 2017-05-23 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Naoto ponders this for a moment, taking another sip of her tea to try and finish more of it before it gets too cold.]

[Anger, fear, disgust, they each certainly could be strong emotions. Yet...]

I know that such negative emotions can be quite powerful, but what about positive ones?

[She attempts to come up with an example.]

Something akin to a will to protect, perhaps?
timeshields: (They say it started with a big bang)

[personal profile] timeshields 2017-05-23 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
There are other spells, from what I've heard. Those may draw on that kind of emotion.

...

When you're in your vessel form and you're trying to protect your god. That's when those emotions are the most important.
fortune_detective: (calm acceptance)

[personal profile] fortune_detective 2017-05-25 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Other spells? What kinds?

[There's a small, slightly relieved grin on Naoto's face.]

So shinki do not necessarily have to rely entirely on negative emotions then to perform their abilities... That is good to hear.
timeshields: (52)

[personal profile] timeshields 2017-05-25 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
There's something called Bind, it does what it says. Kairi would know more than I do.

[She nods.]

It's the borderline that requires the most negative emotions.
fortune_detective: (that's interesting)

[personal profile] fortune_detective 2017-05-25 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Kairi-san would?

[Naoto recalls meeting her earlier on the way to the festival.]

Do shinki techniques each draw upon different emotions then?
timeshields: (The existential equivalent of pink eye)

[personal profile] timeshields 2017-05-25 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
She seems to know the most and is the most available.

[There's a half shrug of her shoulders.]

That would make the most sense.
fortune_detective: (measured evaluation)

[personal profile] fortune_detective 2017-05-27 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I met her earlier today during the festival. I will have to ask her the next time I see her.

[Naoto smiles softly at Homura's half-shrug. She finishes the last of her tea and sets her mug down on the table. Resting her elbows on her knees, Naoto props her chin on her hands.]

There is so much to learn about this place, and so little that I can remember about myself. I hope I'm up for whatever challenges will come with being a shinki.
timeshields: (75)

[personal profile] timeshields 2017-05-28 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Homura sets her own empty cup down and goes back to sitting straight.]

As long as you want to protect your god you'll make a good one.
fortune_detective: (calm acceptance)

[personal profile] fortune_detective 2017-06-06 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Naoto's smile grows a little warmer, and she nods her head.]

Thank you, Homura-san.

For chatting with me and for the encouragement.
