1. ( 7/11 ) Waking up, Eris' Temple (closed)
(Urashima has always been an early riser. From the moment he arrived in the Far Shore, he was always one to wake up in the morning and get moving-- whether it be helping out around the temple, training on his own, or finding a friend to bother. It was an old habit, developed from months of waking up early to train and clean at the citadel, not that he remembered. He only knew this was a thing he did and he didn’t mind.
As he wakes, he turns over in his bed and recalls a dream he’d just had. A dream? Is that what he’s remembering right now?
Being in a room, tucked away to the side but also on display. Men and women crowding around him to point and exclaim, “There it is. Urashima Kotetsu.” That’s him. That’s his name but someone reaches out to him and picks up. Not by the arms, not from the stomach, but they pick up so easily, turning him over in their hands and it feels so wonderfully natural… “Is it authentic?” Someone asks and he practically glows because he knows the answer. Yes, he’s an authentic Kotetsu sword.
And that’s when it hits him.
Snapping up in bed, he practically falls out of it, scrambling to find his sword. To find himself. He finds it nearby (it’s always nearby) and he grabs it with shaking hands, heart racing, breath gone. That wasn’t a dream. When you remember a dream, you know its a dream. When he remembered this one, it felt real.
The realization sends him into a panic as he tries to stop the memory from seeping into mind, taking place, filling in empty spaces with something. He’s a sword. He’s a spirit. A tsukumogami.)
No… no, no, no…!
( Urashima's a good kid— a good shinki. Always keeping himself in line, Oona's never had to feel any sort of twinge of guilt from him and for all of his naïveté and youth, he was confident and brave, never feeling any real fear.
Until now. He's never felt this way before. Not in his time in the Far Shore and not in his old life— never in over three hundred years. He's afraid to the point he's working himself into more and more of a panic. Good morning, Oona. )
2. ( 7/11 ) Afternoon, a park in the near shore (open)
( After he'd had a chance to recover from his earlier panic, Urashima tries to find some time to think about his new memory properly. Not that there's much to really think about. Being a shinki, he'd never worried about his lack of memories. Things simply were the way they were and everything would be okay. Of course, he'd had basic knowledge of some things but for other things, he'd had to assume. He'd assumed he knew how to use a sword before and that he liked practicing just like he'd assumed he'd been human. And now, in an instant, he'd changed. He'd gone from being human to never being a human at all. With a single memory, he'd aged.
In the park, he sits on the edge of a bridge over a small stream, leaning against the guard railing. His feet kick at the air and he holds out his sheathed sword in front of him. He'd tried to leave it behind at the temple but after remembering… he couldn't quite leave it behind. It's a good thing normal people don't notice shinki and gods.
He keeps it sheathed but he knows exactly what the blade looks like. He knows the carving on the blade— Urashima Taro, the forge date. Over three hundred years.
He frowns and lets out a loud, frustrated sigh before trying to say the word on his tongue, )
Tsukumogami…
( Those who know Urashima might also realize that while there are other children in the park, Urashima doesn't appear particularly interested in playing with them right now. )
3. ( 7/12 ) Morning, the Far Shore (open)
( Now that he's had a day to adjust. Urashima appears to bounce back to his usual self. He's taken to exploring the Far Shore a bit, passing the different temples on some sort of curious quest. And maybe you're just minding your own business doing your own thing or maybe you look like you need to be bothered but one way or another, Urashima asks, )
Hey, hey! Have you ever heard of "Ryujin?"
2
However, that doesn't mean he's not as on his guard as usual, and he can spot the sheathed sword from several paces away as he passes through the park. He pauses briefly, eyes narrowing - he recognises this guy from the Tanabata celebrations, and he'd seemed harmless enough then, but it's still not something Shun thinks he can leave alone, so after a moment or two, he turns on his heel and heads over.]
They might not be able to see you, but having a sword out in a park full of kids isn't going to endear you to anyone else. [Even if it's sheathed. Shun actually has his own sword on him as well, but it's concealed under the drop of the long, light, short-sleeved coat he's wearing rather than his usual thicker one.]

He really can't help but jump when Shun approaches him. Look, he'd just wanted some time to think to himself and the near shore seemed like the best place to do it when most of the people around can't see him unless he wants them too. He holds onto the edge of the bridge and looks up at Shun, )
What? ( Down at his sword and back at Shun, ) Oh!
( And he sets it down beside him as he scrambles back up onto his feet, slinging a shoulder bag on his back to the front to put it away. )
Sorry... I was just thinking about something, heh heh.

I'm sure you could have thought about it just as well with your sword hidden. [As if to enhance his point, Shun very briefly pulls the drape of his coat aside to reveal the sword hidden under it, which is of a not dissimilar length (or lack thereof) to Urashima's, before letting it go to hide it neatly underneath again.]
Don't trust that you're going to get privacy going to the Near Shore to think. Enough people keep an eye on things around here that you'll get run across one way or another. [Or even by someone doing their grocery shopping.]

( He doesn't sound so sure about it but he doesn't argue his point-- he isn't sure how to make his argument. How does he explain he just found out his body right now isn't his true form but for some reason he isn't connected to his true form like he should be?
But there you go Shun. The sword at his side is a welcome distraction and his attention is immediately caught. It looks similar to his own in size which interests him even more. This is.... this is relatable? He feels like he can relate to Shun some? )
Right... ( He's listening. He's totally listening! And he looks up when Shun conceals the sword again. ) I didn't mean to stay long either, really... But I'll be more careful, promise!
( He's honest! He really will be! )
Hey! Are you a swordsman?

Thankfully, he doesn't even get time to dismiss the comment before Urashima asks about the sword, and Shun gives a slight shrug in answer.]
I wouldn't call myself that yet. I only learnt basic form maybe a month or so ago, and started sparring about a week and a half ago. So I've barely scratched the surface of actually training with this thing.
[While he can use it perfectly fine against ayakashi (not that it does any permanent damage, but soak the blade in shrine water and it at least hurts like hell), he doesn't imagine he'd fare nearly as well against basically anyone else with a sword, unless they were as untrained as he was.]
no subject
Well... do you wanna practice sometime?( It's an innocent offer, really. ) I've been training for a little while too... and I'm not too bad!
( And he sounds confident! More confident than he has this entire conversation, at least. There's something on his mind but if there's one thing he really knows right now, it's that he's not too bad with a sword. )

The offer of sparring seems to take his interest a bit more, though, and he looks Urashima up and down with a bit of a critical eye.]
I wouldn't mind more sparring partners, but I barely know you, so I'd rather do it at a neutral location. [Sorry Urashima, barring exceptional circumstances it usually takes a little longer for Shun to actually let people anywhere near his temple.] Most of the people I've trained with so far use longer swords, so it'd be worth it just for the experience.

( But thinking about it, he can't help be deflate some. He'd been excited at the chance to blow off some anxious energy soon but now the solution brings him back around to his problem. Thinking about it, she might find it fun.
She seemed to have a thing for violence? )
I can ask her if that's okay? ( Is that okay? He's looking up at you expectantly, Shun. Let him know if that's okay!!! )
And same here...! Everyone uses longer swords and it's fun ( Sword training. Fun! ) but I want to practice with someone like me.

"Neutral" means neither of our temples. I don't feel any more comfortable being on the grounds of a god I don't know than I do letting someone I don't know into mine. [It's one of his overcautious habits, and though he has made exceptions in the past, he's sticking to it in this case since he sees no real reason they can't find a third location.
There's a short nod at Urashima's familiar predicament - it's probably lucky Shun trains so frequently with Ren, so he's absolutely used to people considering combat training fun.] I'd just prefer to have experience against all kinds of swords, in case I ever need to go up against something unusual.

mouthing some of their heads and nodding every now and then. Ultimately, he comes up with nothing and he nods once in response and looks up at Shun, )
Then I'll let you pick a place. ( Urashima is naive but he isn't oblivious. Even he can see that Shun isn't the most trusting type. ) You can pick and I'll meet you there if I can!
I'm not too bad... I think I'm better now than before, at least... but I need to see for sure!
no subject
[And it's definitely not like the Far Shore doesn't have enough forested area to accommodate for that. For now, though, Shun dismisses the issue in favour of the remark on skill.]
Knowing where you stand is better than suspecting it and then turning out to be wrong when it matters.
no subject
Mm. ( He nods once. ) That works.
( Knowing where you stand is better than overstating yourself... he considers this for a moment too!
It sounds like wise advice. )
When I started... Okita-san said I was really good even if he beat me really bad... but it didn't feel right. ( he holds up his hand as if remembering that fight, ) But I think I understand more now.
( Which sounds a bit ominous. But look, it's weird when you're mysteriously able to use a sword but can't use a phone except for when you remember you're a sword spirit and not a phone spirit. )

You can be good, but still be defeated badly by someone better, or even someone on your level who knows your moves or has better luck. Combat isn't always as simple as good and bad at it. [The next part is a little more cautious, given Urashima seems to be a shinki, but...] I don't see what you mean by "didn't feel right".
[Shun's heard of shinki coming in still skilled in things from their own world, but if it's that, he's not exactly sure how far he should be prying into why it makes more sense now.]
