Who: Shun, Ren, Fubuki, plus Fuujin or Kaede or someone along those lines /waves hand
When: July 10th
Where: Japan, Fuujin's largest shrine
What: Mission #8, a.k.a. Fuujin can't find his own shit and Shun brings company to ensure he resists the mighty temptation to punch the wind in the mouth out of spite.
[It had been incredibly tempting to just refuse the mission from Fuujin. Shun has nothing to prove, least of all to that idiot and even less so after reading the infuriatingly passive-aggressive letter that was his excuse for a request. But the sole saving grace was that the item he's asking for is one for his shinki, and with sentimental value no less - Shun hasn't met Fuujin's shinki and can't really begrudge her having to serve that moron, and he can appreciate how much it would hurt to lose something important like that.
So it's with some reluctance that he's come out to the largest shrine to Fuujin he knows of within Japan, up in the mountains and with plenty of wind to go around. As well as bringing along Fubuki as normal, he's also dragged Ren out with him just on the off chance Fuujin shows up to collect the item and Shun needs more than one person to talk him down from breaking the wind god's jaw the first time he says words.
While the temple complex still hasn't been searched, Shun's figured starting at the shrine is probably the best idea, since Fuujin had mentioned going between shrines in different locations. He can't see the obidome they're supposed to be looking for, but he is rather critically inspecting the trees and plants around the shrine, because he can see some fairly fresh pricks in the wood and earth that might indicate something helpful.]
They've brought something in from here recently. That's probably worth looking into.

[He's not going to contest Shun's decision to come here, but finding something seems...pretty much like busywork, and not even a prayer at that. But if there's one thing that caught his eye about that letter, it's that the lost item had belonged to a shinki, and...despite the tone of the letter, he can't hate this task.]
[Would be nice if his hair stopped blowing into his face, though.] Ren, do you have another hair tie? [He's seen Ren pull one out of his pocket before, so he knows Ren might have at least one...]
no subject
Yep, here you go!
[This really does seem like some Fuujin or one of his other shinki could do himself. Wouldn't it be faster and easier for him to just, oh, turn into wind and fly around to look for it? Not that Ren has any idea if Fuujin can do that or not, but he is THE god of wind so it's far from impossible.
Ren would probably wonder all that aloud, too, if they weren't on his property and potentially within earshot. And Shun doesn't need any encouragement in being less than impressed with him either.
It's nice that shun is taking it so seriously despite his obvious irritation over Fuujin, though. Ren glances over at where he's looking, a tiny bit sad he isn't close enough to peek over his shoulder without being really obvious about what he was planning to do.]
How can you tell?
no subject
Shun turns back towards them at Ren's question...and stares very briefly, given he hadn't quite realised how much trouble the other two were having in this wind with their hair. His own doesn't seem to be causing him any issues, simply flapping in sections that only really obstruct one eye on and off, depending on the flow of the wind.
It's almost like it was intended to blow dramatically in wind.Nonetheless, after that short moment of unexpressed incredulity, he reaches to one side and brushes his fingers over the bark of one of the trees by the shrine, slipping a nail into one of the marks dug into the tree to highlight it.]
This is a fresh mark - it hasn't dried out yet, so I wouldn't say it's older than a few days. And there's a few others that are too evenly spaced to be random, especially when I don't think any animal would be willing to live in these trees with this wind. So something was probably hanging here until recently.
no subject
[He looks toward the mark Shun's pointed out.] Good eye. [He's glad for anything that narrows it down; he gets the feeling he isn't much for detail work. He had gone on a find-the-thing prayer with Hinata once, but she had had that ability that found the thing almost immediately, even if she'd been reluctant to use it...]
[If he looks a little out of it, it's because he is mentally preparing himself.]
I suppose asking around isn't an option? [It's just the first thing that jumped into his mind.]
no subject
[If it's that important, he really doubts no one has looked for it at all, and inside their temple and shrine and with the stuff they'd been moving while wearing it would have been the first places to look.]
I think if it were as easy as asking around, they would have found it already, too...
[And by this time he's gotten close enough to Shun to lean over and around him to see what he's looking at...or to try to see it, anyway, through all the hair the wind just decided to blow across his face. But looking silly has never stopped him from continuing on as seriously as before and it won't now!]
...What we really need is some way to survey the whole area really quickly...
no subject
Ren's suggestion is still a good one, though, even as ridiculous as he looks suggesting it. Without any kind of change to his serious expression, Shun pulls the curtain of hair away for him until that particular breeze passes.]
There's not many ways to do that somewhere like this, especially if we want to check inside the temple as well. It might be worth going through that first to make sure it isn't in there before we check the grounds, because that'll be far harder, especially with this wind.
no subject
[Hmmmm? They've reached that stage of lovey-dovey already?]
[Erhem. He turns his attention back to the temple.] In that case, I'll go on ahead.
[He enters, then stops just inside. (Unintentionally blocking it, while he's at it.) If they haven't been given more information than what was in the letter, then they should be thorough. The entrance is as good a start as any. He folds his arms as he sweeps his gaze across.]
[...If only it really were that easy, huh? He would have piped up about being able to survey the area, but...she's not here anymore. There wouldn't be any point.]
no subject
[hey, he's here to be a mediating presence, so that's what he's going to do. And his expression and tone of voice are perfectly neutral...until he's done and Shun is very helpfully holding his hair out of his face, so when Ren briefly rolls his eyes, hopefully he can see it but no one else will.
As the breeze passes, Ren gives Shun a bright smile as thanks for holding his hair and straightens back up again--only for his hair to start whipping around again in another breeze. He sighs and reaches up to hold his hair back himself this time, with a somewhat sheepish smile. Fubuki had definitely had the right idea in going ahead.]
Checking the temple first sounds like a great idea.
no subject
He does have to quirk a brow when Ren's hair gets caught up in the wind again, though, even as he nods and turns to head back towards the temple himself. His tone when he speaks is neutral as ever, despite what he actually says.]
I didn't think hairpins would be in the necessary equipment for this mission, but maybe I should have brought them anyway. [Joker used them, so he still has a pack of spares lying around in a drawer somewhere at his temple.
Once he catches up to where Fubuki is, he eyes the doorframe himself, though he doesn't expect to find anything and is not at all surprised when he doesn't.] It'd be more useful if we could tell which parts of the temple they'd been working in specifically, but that would probably ruin the entertainment.
[...Yeah, okay, no, he's still bitter about Fuujin.]
no subject
[He leans down and picks something up—but it's just an oddly-shaped rock. He tosses it.]
We'll make a note of where we've finished searching? [He enters the sanctuary and takes another glance around.] All who oppose starting at the corners, raise your hand...
no subject
[Oh well. He'll know better next time.
He also doesn't think this is only for entertainment, so he frowns a little at Shun as they stop behind Fubuki, but there's no doubt Fuujin made no effort to make it any easier, so he leaves the actual saying things bit to Fubuki.]
Oh, good idea. [He thrusts his hands into the air anyway.] I'll take the far-right one!
no subject
Starting at the corners is probably a fine idea, and Shun nods slightly even if he has a bit of a caveat to add.]
If you find anything that's going to take more time to search - large rooms or storage areas or something - then we can cover those when we come back together as a group. It's more efficient than waiting on one person to try and do it just because it's in their area.
[In any case...] I'll do the far left.
no subject
[He does so by raising his hand, too.] Then I'll take the near left.
[There's no need to worry that Fubuki will do large areas by himself, at least. Ha...]
I'll shout if I find anything. Meet back up in...ten minutes?
no subject
[Not because he doesn't have a watch, but because the next time he checks it will be either three or twenty minutes from now and not any other time in between.
Anyway, he doesn't sound opposed to the idea, and while their hands are both still in the air, Ren takes the opportunity to give Fubuki a good luck high-five as he ducks and through the doorway to head off to his chosen area.]
Okay. See you in ten minutes, Fubuki-kun~!
no subject
He's not entirely sure it's going to take him the full ten minutes to search his given area, but even if he's not searching any rooms or storage himself, he's at least checking them out to see exactly what hell they're likely to be in for in the event they do have to search any of them as a group.]
no subject
[He makes a note of the rooms he passes as he goes, giving everything a cursory glance. When he's done with that, he goes to the near right and does the same, making note of slightly dustier areas. There's really nothing preventing the obidome from falling into those places, but...]
[Well, may as well narrow it down.]
no subject
Unsurprisingly, he does end up completely losing track of time, and it's right about when he should start heading back that he finally gets in idea so actually heading back is about the last thing on his mind.]
no subject
There's definitely a couple of gaps in the old wood the size an accessory like that could fall through, but he's not putting all his chips on that yet, so in the event that Fubuki makes it back on time, he'll have the obvious question:]
Find anything? [And he'll also be texting Ren the same one once it's become obvious he's lost track of the time, since literally shouting is not his preferred method of communication in a place this isolated.]
no subject
I don't know if they're important, so I'll hand these off, too.
[He takes an obidome from his pocket.] This was hiding behind a box.
no subject
Oh, did you find it?
no subject
[He tilts his hand a bit to accentuate what he means - there's a bit of loose chain snagged in one of the trinkets, and a broken necklace hanging out of the bundle near it.
Once Fubuki holds out the obidome, though, Shun looks much more interested, reaching out to check it even as Ren joins them and remarks on it. It does match the description, and the location puts a look of thought on his face.]
Makes sense. If they moved the box, it could've gotten snagged, and been pulled off when she put it down. If neither of you mind waiting a bit longer, I can double-check what we didn't go over to make sure there's nothing else that matches the description. I'd probably have the easiest time spotting something out of place of the three of us.
no subject
Shun, if your plan is to teleport, it would be faster with three pairs of eyes, wouldn't it?
no subject
[He's not going to just reach out and take it, though, since they are kind of in someone else's place and it could be just as important to someone as the obidome is.
Fubuki also brings up an excellent point, and Ren nods a little in agreement.]
I wouldn't mind helping. It would be silly for for you to be the only one looking as long as we're still here--oh, and I can help look in tight places and behind things... [Which is added with the air of someone who literally only remembered that a couple minutes ago.]
no subject
Since they both seem to want to help check the last area, Shun sighs slightly and nods.] I figured you wouldn't want to be dragged along if one person could do it, but fine. It's a bit pointless to teleport when the temple isn't that big, though.
no subject
We wouldn't have come if we were willing to let you do it alone, Shun. [It comes out a little too quickly—he's still bothered by Shun's apparent willingness to run into a fire while tired, even if he doesn't say as much outright.]
