016 | The Good Old Days

Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[It's been a very bad day. Things are just weird everywhere, people are odd, Jay is old,
and Tot has a lot on her mind. At least she has a suggestion for the boy playing with the bricks.]

It's not going to stay up without something holding them together.

I live there. I think I must be lost.

[He doesn't think he's met this boy before, which is... he is not going to worry. He's not. But, for all he's not really spent much time with them, Kija at least knows what the village kids look like. He must have come further than he guessed. Which is stupid, it doesn't make any sense.

[The flowers are pretty.]

I don't want Granny to worry.

[Oh no, that's Lux isn't it?

Ekko's not particularly fond of her, but it's the sort of lowkey trolling way. She hasn't actually done any serious harm.]

Like four.

[The boy's entire body seems to cringe, trying to shrink away from Gonou's hand. His arms wrap protectively around the bag, as if to keep Gonou from taking it - but honestly, the way he's holding it, he's going to end up dropping it or having to put it down pretty soon anyway.

He glares over his shoulder, teeth bared - and the teeth look wrong, in various ways. The canines don't seem to be meant for so small a mouth, and the other teeth - while there's nothing easily, identifiably wrong - don't look like they fit, either. Or at least not like they fit right. Either some dentist has a lot of work to do, or work is in progress and nowhere near done yet.] Lemme go! I don't know what you're talking about! [He does, but his first instinct is to deny everything. He tries to duck and squirm out of that grip on his shirt, but honestly, even if he did, he can't move fast enough with that rice that Gonou can't just get another, better grip.]

[ Even with as fimilar as Sharak's voice is, it's enough to startle Goten because he doesn't expect anyone to suddenly be in the air with him. Spinning around, he blinks owlishly at her. Grey hair and wrinkles aside...even the scars, he can still tell who she is even if it takes a second or two for his brain to catch up]

Sharak!

[And with that he's flying closer, stopping just in front of her.]

You got....older?

[Yes there is question in his voice. It's weird...but at least she's not a kid. Lucky!]

[Anyway~ best not to stay on that topic right? Something in his gut tells him that. Or maybe he's just hungry]

I was just trying to get rid of some of my energy...I thought it would help a bit since I've been sorta breaking stuff on accident at the temple.

[Teenage body came with a sudden teenage power up he just wasn't ready for]

[He's always happy to see Sharak, he can't help but smile at her!]

[Oh hi there talking pony! Isn't she pretty? Tot certainly thinks so.]

Tot hasn't seen it but will help you look for it.

[Did he? Is there any salvation? Everyone in her life, everyone except maybe Lucian, hated her... wanted to use her...]

But he is better off without me. I hope he lived... lived and went far away, somewhere happy.

Oh...

[She'd left home in the middle of the night, and how long had it been since then? She and Lucian had walked so far, and then -- who knows what had happened then?]

I must be alive, because I am hungry... All right. I will try your pretsell.

I don't think I do either.

[It's a bit annoying.

[The other boy is crying, though, and that makes it very important that Kija doesn't because that would be no good. And, while villages are bigger than people and must be easier to find, it looks like it would take much more time for him to get back than to find someone else, so... well, he can hold on a little longer, he guesses.]

I haven't seen anyone like that. [Just to get that out of the way. Please don't be upset.] Did you see where he went?

I don't know. She was in the house. But she's not scared of me so I guess maybe?

[Oof. She's wriggling.

[Carefully, Kija puts the cat back down. She flicks her tail in annoyance, then settles down a few disdainful feet away - just enough to make it obvious she is Extremely Displeased, but not so much as to risk becoming lost. Strange though these two are, they both smell familiar enough that she doesn't want to try her luck elsewhere. These two have food.]

Do you know what she wants to eat, please?

Teach?

[Not only is the tone incredulous, but something about it hints that the boy at the top of the stairs only has the most nebulous idea of what a teacher even is. He can read and write, so, surely he must have been taught at some point.... Well, it's all amnesia anyway, so it doesn't really matter.]

[What matters is that the boy isn't budging.]

....It's ours now. You can't come up here.

[Little Ayumu frowns, looking very serious and confused.]

Why would he leave you behind if he saved you?

[It just doesn't make sense to her but a lot of things older people do don't make sense. She just does what she's told.]

[Cath-e-dral.

[He will have to remember that word. And 'archangel', too, though he isn't so sure on what it means. Or 'cathedral', really. But it's really big, so it must be important.]

Is that like a temple?

[Such a statement makes him pause and squint at her, clearly not understanding whatever it is she's trying to say.]

If people hurt you, you have to hurt them back until they stop. [And sometimes that's when they're dead.] Are you dumb?

[He's been at this for awhile but it still feels like he has just too much energy. It's weird, like his body is just tingling with it. Goten takes a deep breath before letting it out slowly, trying to relax.

He doesn't really notice Gonou right away either, back to him as he drops back down. Or at least, he hasn't noticed him just yet.]

I don't get it...It's been over an hour. I could keep up like that before...

[Even trying powerful concentrated beams of ki didn't seem to ware him out that much. Lifting a hand, he wipes the sweet from his forehead onto his sleeve before catching Gonou in the corner of his eye. He blinks, and turns looking to him]

Uh......hey?

[He looks sorta familiar, at least from this distance. Maybe...if he squints enough]

Did you get lost?

[People don't usually stop be abandoned temples unless they're training or weird.]

[This sounds like a really sweet deal, and he almost wavers. But no! Have... to be.... responsible....]

We're trying to make sure we have everything at our new hideout.... Can we come to another party?

[Yeah, he's talking about more kids.]

[She's also a talking unicorn, so it's fine in this little boy's mind.]

[Aha! So be careful of traps when taking the stairs and keep an eye out for more little ones. Thanks for the tip, Chikusa.]

[It's obvious he is from what she can make out from his tone and the look on his face.]

If you let me in, I could help you prepare if it happens.

[Whether he agrees or not, the seed's been planted. Time to step back and let it grow.]

[Oh hey it's another bitty person. Who is it this time? That mess of blond hair is a clue but can't be Izumo or Shizou...Little kid looks really familiar though..]

The bar got destroyed....Now that I got turned bigger I wanted to hang out here but with it like this...

[No dice. Goten's luck sucks]

They say twins' personalities and interests often resemble one another as well.

[Now he's just fucking with you, Shizuo. From the aggressively cheerful smile on his face, it appears that Hakkai hasn't changed, in some ways, from Gonou. For one thing, he has the same sense of humor.]

I believe I'm beginning to get the gist. How old is my ... "twin"?

[Chicken.... It smells good, at least, and he almost seems like he might stick his head out.]

[Hoo boy. Between Ken and Chikusa forgetting everything, his own predicament, and the cat, Axel's getting a headache. Nevertheless, he perseveres.]

[Although he's probably a shinki... or just a feral child: Gonou isn't making any firm pronouncements just yet.]

You can't just live up there. For one thing, there are classes scheduled.
