016 | The Good Old Days

Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

I think we should walk with them. So they can see how, and we can help them if they fall over again.

[Still holding the arm of the goblin he helped up, Shun totes it along with him to go get the hand of another goblin, so they can all walk together. Once he does, he looks expectantly at Roxas, obviously hoping the older boy will join in.]

[He flashes Hijikata an interested sideways look. That's right, a god has memories after all. He doesn't want to pry, but perhaps a more gentle touch might yield answers?]

Of course, I don't remember anything really, but... everything seemed strange and really big, you know? [He laughs quietly.] But I guess it must be even stranger to you.

[Wow.... Everything about this place, and this girl, is very impressive. And he wants to help her, but...]

I don't think I can. I don't know how.

[ Funny isn't the word he'd use. The guy's not moving and he's not sure he's even breathing. Leaving his bike to sink beneath the waves, Mikoto grabs him and swims them both to shore. The last time he didn't watch his strength he put a guy in the hospital. He hated the feeling that nagged at him after. The same feeling that now sat heavy in his gut. Guilt.

Once his feet hit the sandy bottom, he rises from the water and drags Bandou behind him. The moment they clear the majority of the waves, he drops him on the beach and proceeds to shake him awake. ]

Wake up.

Okay!

[He falls into step next to his new friend.]

I'm Senri. What's your name?

Hm, it seems to be different than mine.

[Which is safe to say he and Hibari aren't from the same place.

A blink and then a look at Goten.

At least he looks apologetic for it.]

I did. [Sort of. He's not sure how to properly tell him that Loki's come to rectify the situation, though he tries hard not to dwell on it.]

In any case, renovations are on hold, but I'm adding a second floor to the bar.

[It's really, really weird talking to Souji about his past like he wasn't there, but he's starting to get used to it.]

Mm. I'm a little displaced in time, I guess. Some of the place names in the city are familiar even now, but nothing but a handful of the oldest buildings really look much the same.

[ He didn't think about that. With a blink of his eyes, he teleports landing himself back in the familiar bar, except where was-- ]

...........

[ And a few moments later, Mikoto pops up again at the beach to grab Izumo and teleport back. ]

Are there?

[Please, tell him. He's met a few adults already and he doesn't sense anything good from them.

Their reason of good can be different than someone else's, after all.

So he's just looking at her expectantly.]

[He thinks about it.

But nope. He shakes his head.]

[ He blinks at that revelation, his hand dropping giving him free reign. ]

You're not?

[ Yes, that's a legitimate question. ]

I won't get lost! Tell me where it is.

[He doesn't want her to think he can't do something this simple. Besides there's an ingrained cultural lesson to not trouble the elderly with something you can do yourself.]

If there are, it'd be damn decent of them to give the rest of us some kind of heads-up.

[Seriously, he's flying pretty blind, and he doesn't like that. He's perceptive enough to pick up a lot on his own, but all the weirdness of this place feels like it's putting him at a distinct disadvantage regardless.]

You'd think we'd remember, but I'm not sure the evidence really points to that right now.

[There's a bemused stare at where Mikoto stood.

He's not bothered by the fact that he left without saying a word, giving him enough time to gather what Mikoto's left behind. He's not sure the other teen has other clothes to wear, but—

Aaaand he's being grabbed and teleported.

Okay.]

[He can almost see the shadows of the forest, the blood and tears on Souji's face, the sickly-pale moonlight...]

Do that, and you'll always have a place with me.

[If he can't remember the promise, he'll just have to make it again. Carefully, he holds out his hand, cradling Souji's smaller one in his palm.]

[He won't abandon him. They've been through too much together, even if Souji doesn't know about it.]

Your Majesty!

[At first, all Zeno sees is the top of a head with bright red hair. All he knows is that, while he can sense the presence of the other three Dragons, they're far away. And while he's looking at Hiryuu Palace, it's... not exactly situated like this?

But he espies the redhead and he knows where he belongs.]

My king! King Hiryuu! [He jumps up, grabs hold of a ledge, and tries to drag his body over the top. He saw the king on the other side, and surely the king will know what's going on!

Once he's at the top, though... the ground looks a far ways down! He looks up, meaning to call for Hiryuu again, but...]

This is embarrassing!

[He smiles awkwardly. She has the same beautiful red hair and warm eyes as his king, but... she is a she. An impossibly cute girl his own age, and not the impossibly cute king at all. And feels himself laugh.]

I'm so sorry! I bet everyone tells you, you look like the king's own daughter, right? The other dragons are never going to let me live this down... mistaking a cute girl for King Hiryuu...!

Yeah! [Look, Shun's very excited about having this big new place to explore, even if he is also worried about Ruri. He can be both. In any case, he waves a hand in general towards the rest of the Far Shore.]

Have you seen any of the neat buildings yet? The one I woke up in was like a big hill, except made into a house. And it had cool birds around it too.

You have other friends than the bird? [Sorry, Johan, Shun's kind of looking around you now to try and spot these other friends. All he can see right now is Cobalt Eagle.]

Will it be okay with both of us riding it?

He's not going to come back once you build the bar up again, is he?

[Because that's not cool. At all. Goten, carefully, leans back in his chair]

Man, even injured you're amazing Izumo! I wish I could of seen it! I should of known but....

[He puts his hands together, looking at Izumo]

Next time, gimme a call? I know you can handle stuff on your own but at least heal up first.

[Please? Pretty Please? Izumo is one of the most important people in Goten's life. You worry him]

So it's gonna be like a...double bar? Two in one?

[He can picture Shizuo running the top and Izumo running the bottom]

So there really are teachers who live at school? I knew it. [Said in the tone of a child who's just had a very important life fact confirmed for him, because that's definitely what he should be focusing on right now.

Picking up one of the piles of books, he carries them over to the appropriate subject shelf. Carrying all of them at once has made him a little wobbly, but he's very determined to get them over there.]

Are you cleaning stuff up? I dunno if you could use some of the classrooms I saw earlier. [Finally reaching the appropriate shelf, he drops the books there and starts to stand them upright properly.]

Yeah, like that! It was kind of like someone dug out a hill and put a house in it, it was really big and cool and had big birds outside too. [It was all very exciting and he plans to look around more when he goes back there later, but for now he's exploring other things.

Apparently the suggestion of the adults having been taken away is worth some very serious consideration, but Shun shakes his head.]

No, I saw one earlier in the place I woke up. [He leans around Goku to point at the building he came out of.] Were there no adults in there?

I hope not.

[He's going to need to find some way to keep Hibari out.

Although, he does pause s but, giving Goten a nod.]

I will.

[The worry goes both ways, Goten. Both ways.

He smiles.]

No. The second floor will be an apartment floor. [You can see where that can lead.]

Oh.

[Souji bites his lip hesitantly, not sure if he really should ask the first question to come to his mind, but honestly dying to know. In the end, curiosity wins out.]

Isn't that a bit lonely? I mean, the same names, but everything else is different. It sounds like going far away but still being reminded of home all the time...

[Her smile is only getting brighter, and she steps in closer so she can take Mira's hand. That she holds on just a bit tightly shows how much she really needed someone to come find her.]

I'm Natsuru!

[She answers with such enthusiasm, and starts to blush when she realizes it.]

Ah... it's nice to meet you...

[And then she nods, agreeing with Mira's suggestion.]

Right! I'm sure it won't be scary with Mira-neechan!

I do!

[His expression falters a bit. Oh, right. He forgets that other kids can't see the Spirits like he normally does. Cobalt Eagle is the exception since Johan seems to have unconsciously given him a solid form when he woke up.

He looks back at Cobalt Eagle, seeing it nod.]

He says he can.
