The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

which is why ekko gets an eleven year old narumiya mei himself tugging on his shirt when he gets the chance, pre-puberty somehow making him even more obnoxious. at least he's retained his memories normally, it seems...? ]

mei rolls his eyes like this is the most obvious answer in the world, and waves his hand out at this. Situation. ] Aren't you a time god?! Clearly something is wrong with time!!

Fix it, I'm not going back to being eleven forever!

[chronobreak]

And you're supposed to be a god of the sun. I don't see you changing it around.

[He huffs and waves a hand in annoyance.]

Look, time knows how things are supposed to be. If you wait a couple of days things'll snap back to the way they should be. Don't panic too much.

That's the most bull answer I've ever heard!!!

[ but it becomes very clear that this is just mei being bratty and pouty. it's at least really cute when he's a kid, considering most of the edge is taken away by his fat, chubby cherub cheeks. ] Why didn't anything happen to you anyway?

This sucks! Why did I have to get smaller! I can't pitch like this! [ well, he can, but what if he hurt his elbow?!?! would he have retroactive little league elbow and never be allowed to play again? this is very serious ]

Looks like time likes me better.

[He rolls his eyes.]

As soon as I figure out how to turn the sun on you, I'm going to give you the worst sunburn of your life. [ also said sulkily... and also pretty much impossible, but look, he's desperate here.

the slight on baseball gets him though, and he gives ekko a look, which loses one hundred percent of its effectiveness and just makes him look especially childish. ] It's the only thing that matters! [ says mei, a god ] As long as it doesn't take away my ability to pitch, I don't care what this place does.

Yeah right, there are like five of you sun gods. You'd have to wrestle control for it or something.

[Yeah, part of him just wants to pinch Mei's cheeks and baby talk to annoy him.]

Why would being tiny change anything?

but, mei does take this part seriously, folding his arms over his chest; he puts his right hand on his precious left elbow, subconscious.] If you throw too hard when you're young, you can risk ruining your throwing arm forever. It's called little league elbow.

I pitch at 148 kilometers per hour. If I tried to throw like that right now, I might never be able to pitch again. [ which is a horrifying thought!!!! ] Not to mention I can't throw any breaking balls, because those could also hurt my arm.

[chronobreak]

[Not if he teleports out of the way.]

Can't people just heal that sort of thing? [Ekko, not everywhere runs off of magic.] Your world has to have healers, right? Don't they have magic moon sticks that make every wound disappear? ... Or something like that.

[changeups]

[ mei stares at him, his deadpan face more exaggerated on his tiny, childish features. ]

What. [ it's easy to forget that ekko's world was strange compared to, you know, mei's normal one... ] No, that just makes you sound like a crazy person. The human body isn't meant to take that much force. Even a major leaguer can only pitch up to about a hundred miles an hour before he has to stop, cause the torque would destroy your muscles if you went much faster.

Being able to throw as fast as I do in this body would ruin me. "Magic healing" or not. It'd just come back again.

[ a little sulkily... he just wants to pitch.... ]

[He just looks at him with complete confusion.]

... Then just don't throw it that fast? It can't be that hard.

[ mei huffs and folds his little arms. it's adorable on this tiny little cherub boy. ]

I can't stop how good I am, jeez.

mei smacks his fist into ekko's bicep, but it's A) completely ineffective and B) probably just cute. ] I came looking for you to fix this, and you can't do that!
