The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[Well, it's not like it's gonna start making any more sense. So this woman is a God and he's - he's the other one and together they fight crime. Or... or whatever it is Gods actually do. Answer prayers, sometimes. Miracles. Weeping statues, that kind of thing. It doesn't feel right, but he doesn't know why, and he's got more than enough to think about without wondering whether or not things are actually supposed to be this way. She - Elfnein said it was, and she's the God round these parts, or one of them. She'd know.]

So... I'm helping you, right? Do I follow you around or something? Won't you find that weird?

Right, you're helping me though you can do whatever you want for the most part. We should be on equal terms!

[He wonders if it's okay to just follow Elfnein around anyway, since she seems to know what she's doing and someone here ought to.]

Um, I'm Ken by the way. [Please don't ask me anything else.] And... this is gonna sound dumb, but where is this?

Well overall it's the heavens, the spiritual plane for the most part. I have a temple here, though it functions more like a library.

So, is everyone dead then? Or... well, I guess Gods don't really count. I mean Gods don't die, right?

[Hidaka? Stop cross-examining her--

Yes, technically shinki and gods are dead and reborn here but it's not as big of a deal as you think. It's part of the natural cycle of life.

[ Please don't cross-examine the poor girl, she's new at being a god still. ]

Huh. I wonder if everyone gets this. You'd figure it'd get crowded.

[It's... not much of an afterlife. He'd been expecting - well, he doesn't know what he'd been expecting. Ken's pretty sure that it isn't this, isn't just some kind of - well, extension of what he presumes he must have already been doing. Not very well, since he's dead and not very old, but...]

Um. Where do people... you know, sleep round here?

[Do dead people need to sleep?

[Well, they certainly can't just hang round making the place look untidy, can they?]

There's a few rooms in the temple that I've out fitted to be bedrooms.

[ Though so far it's just been her living in the temple. ]

[Do people sleep in temples? Churches don't work that way, and there's a fragment of knowledge he can't think why he possesses. He'd have figured temples were much the same, but she's the God and it's her temple. If Elfnein says it's okay to sleep there then it must be okay. When God speaks, you don't argue back if you know what's good for you.]

I... am I supposed to just go home with you?

[Not that I don't want to or anything, not if that's what's meant to happen...

I mean, I could go somewhere else if it's weird.

If you want to go with me you can, I don't know if it's common for shinki to live somewhere else but I don't want to force you to go if you don't want to.

But if we're a team, I guess sticking together makes sense.
