The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[The boy in the beanie knew h was being approached, but he doesn't seem to know how to deal with it, just blinking with wide confused eyes as his sleeve is tugged. They're on what would be the school grounds, but which a small group of children have taken as their own.]

[Awkwardly, he lifts up the bucket he's holding.]

We need stuff... to make things safer.

[He glances at the school curiously, wondering what they're protecting it from.]

[...Okay, so he has no idea. They're making up things as they go along but, without the memories of being hunted by the mafia right out the gate and learning via trial by fire, neither the beanie boy or his currently out partner really know where to start. Still, biting his lip, he tries to offer an answer.]

Like things to make... barriers. So people can't get in. Or weapons so they won't hurt us....

[Barriers? Weapons? Hmm...]

Are you making a fort?

[He perks up.]

Yeah! A fort. Like that.

[bear_necessities]

I can help with that!

[Probably. Let's see, what can he do...]

Oh I know! I know how to make a campfire! And simple weapons. Like spears!

[He doesn't remember, but most Kim-un-kur children learn those things at a very young age.]

Spears are good!

[Better than good, and he starts to look excitedly hopeful.]

And campfires will be good for when it gets cold! So what do we need?

Mostly wood. Whatever we can find for firewood and long sticks for spears.

[Senri is really glad he knows something useful, and he's eager to get started.]

If you know a place with a lot of trees I can start looking.

Then...

[Tentatively, he gets up to his feet and looks off past the school.]

There's a forest that way... But... [He bites the inside of his cheek.] I'm not strong like Quattordici... So if something happens and I'm not near the school...

Is the school in that much danger?

[He didn't realize attacks were expected so soon.]

I could go myself and bring some back.

I don't know. But it's not a good thing if a bunch of kids wake up and no one can remember anything, right?

[CONSTANT VIGILANCE]

....Are you sure you'll be okay?

[bear_necessities]

I guess not...

[Senri had beeen so busy exploring his new surroundings, he hadn't given much thought to why he was there or what it might mean.]

But don't worry about me. I'll be fine.

[He really wants to prove himself, so he's doing his best to look confident.]

[kokuyoyo]

Okay. Then.... I'll be waiting!

[Just.... at the edge of the school grounds, looking really nervous.]

Senri nods firmly and bravely sets out into the wilds. Or... into the nearest area with trees. Same difference.

It will be a couple of hours, but he will return. Struggling with the five long, mostly straight sticks he managed to find. He's used his pocket knife to whittle the ends into points. He doesn't know who taught him that, but he's glad they did.

Because clearly several crudely made spears will be vital in the defense of their fort from whatever vague threat they face.]

I'm back!

[Even with how long it takes, he's still waiting patiently by the time Senri returns, although a pile of rocks, small sticks, and some sort of rope have gathered by his feet since then. When he sees Senri coming out from the trees, he hops to his feet.]

You're back! It was taking so long that I was wondering if you'd ever come back.
