016 | The Good Old Days

Who: Everyone!
What: Ageswapping
When: July 15-17
Where: Everywhere
Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

Edit: OVERFLOW is here!

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

    Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

    Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

    Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

    Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

In Summary:
  • Meet the newbies
  • Get aged or de-aged
  • Deal with other too young/too old people
  • Try to handle the consequences
  • Have fun~

[Shun is quite astute on picking up details, and given he's been training in swordplay himself recently, he definitely notices that somewhat bizarre detail of the sheathe. What's the point of a sword that can't be drawn...?

For now, he puts it aside in favour of just staring bluntly for a few moments at the display from Reisi, because from his point of view, it's a little much. Not that it doesn't fit in with the kinds of things the Heavens tend to favour, but it's not something he's as fond of himself.

After those moments pass, he sighs quietly.]

Then get up. I was going to head to Bishamon's training day, but I can show you where my temple is if you'd prefer to know where to go afterwards. And if you have any more questions about this place and how it works, you might as well ask them now.

[It seemed like the right thing to do, from Reisi's point of view. If he's going to accept a god, he has to do so properly, along with its formalities.

He returns the sword to his side as he rises.
]

I received quite a bit of information and some useful pamphlets. I'd greatly appreciate if you would show me where your temple is. But more than that, I ask that you name me.

[He wants to start working toward their goal as soon as possible.]
revolutionfalcon: (this is why)

[At least he's already gotten a decent foundation, then - Shun had read over one of the pamphlets, and it seemed like asking the current shinki what they'd most needed to know getting here had been a good idea on Aidos' part. He pauses briefly at the last request, though, looking Reisi over quickly before letting out a breath.]

So they can't even be consistent in that way. [That's more of a murmur to himself, but his voice comes back to normal as he explains his meaning.] The first time I was assigned a shinki, they came with a name. I thought it would be the same here, but if you don't have one then you're right, it's best to do it now.

[As much as Shun hates the naming spell for being long, unwieldy and way too formal for his tastes. He might need a moment to actually come up with something, though, and he simply watches Reisi for a few moments as he considers his options.]

[Reisi frowns briefly at Kurosaki's explanation. Trivial as it may seem, that inconsistency paves the way toward a greater disregard for rules or laws meant to protect society on a whole, be it their own or those upheld by others.

Schooling his serious expression into a more neutral one, he closes his eyes before pushing his glasses up again.
]

It's true that we've only met each other, but I believe you will choose a suitable name, one that reflects our shared purpose of doing the right thing for the sake of the people.

[His violet eyes reflect selfless conviction—righteousness, morality, justice, and honor... Not as he sees fit, but for the whole of the people he feels responsible for.]

[That does certainly seem to be this man's focus, and with that statement, Shun only needs a moment longer to come to a decision on the matter of a name. And no matter how much he hates the naming ceremony, it's necessary, so he doesn't have much of a choice here.]

That shouldn't be hard. [Shun extends a hand as if in offering, though it largely just seems to give him something else to focus on while he bores through the spell. It's at the top of his mind the moment he needs it, as ever, and despite his distaste for the words, he speaks them with clear and focused will.] My name is Shun. Grasping thy true name, I bind thee here. With borrowed name, I dub thee my servant. The name answers, the vessel to sound. I call thee as my divine instrument. The name, Munakata Reisi. The vessel, Gi. Come, Giki!

[The declaration of the name at the end completes the hold of the spell, and with that, the power surges, then fades, leaving the name drawn in its wake.]

[Regardless of how Kurosaki himself feels about the spell, Reisi finds himself fascinated by it and the formality of the ritual. There's sensation on his jugular on the left side as his name is branded into him. On a whole, he can't help feeling and looking somewhat pleased about the ordeal.

After its completion, he comments,
]

How very apt.

You have my thanks, Kurosaki-san. Shall we now proceed to your temple? There's also the question of Tenjoin Fubuki—I don't doubt his character as you've mentioned, but I would like to know more about him as well.

[Reisi is a man who loves doing his homework but hates actual paperwork and doesn't know the latter just yet.]

[Shun just looks pleased (or less annoyed, really) that it's over, and he lets out a very faint snort of what might be amusement at the remark.]

I never claimed to have much imagination, and you gave me an obvious choice. [So at least it's something he should be satisfied with, because otherwise Shun might've picked something more line-of-sight. That was pretty much what Joker's name felt like, and that one had been unwieldy enough.

There's a slight incline of Shun's head at the question, and he turns back the way he came, giving a quick beckon that looks like it'd be something military if he bothered with timing it right. It takes him a moment to consider what he should pass on about Fubuki, and in the interim, he begins with basic physical observations.]

Brown hair, brown eyes, fairly tall and skinny - he likes to wear ridiculous eye-catching shirts sometimes as well, so if he's doing that today he'll be easy enough to identify. He doesn't always know when to mind his own business, but it's usually for things he thinks are beneficial to the other party, like when he and Ren both tried to talk me into resting after I went a while without it a few weeks ago. He's been through at least two gods before me, but neither of them ever worked with him in battle, so he came to me almost entirely inexperienced when his last god vanished and he needed somewhere to shelter. My previous shinki, Joker, disappeared at around the same time, so I offered him a name for both our protection.

[Reisi couldn't care less whether his name is creative or not. It's more important that he actually has one, and it pleases him greatly that his name is so fitting. That said, he accepts Kurosaki's explanation before following along, carefully listening to his young god...

...Who produces way more than a description of the other shinki. But it's all interesting nonetheless.
]

And who might 'Ren' be, if I might ask?

[Given Shun also likes to have a general outline of people if he can, he offered what he felt was the relevant information. He's also not particularly surprised when Reisi picks up on that name and pursues it next.]

Suzugamori Ren, or Inanna as a god. He's a friend of mine, and we train together three times a week, so he'll be in and out of the temple at those times. He'll probably want to meet you at some point anyway, but if you ever see a ponytailed redhead in a skirt around my age, that'll be him.

[While "friend" is still partially accurate, Shun's going to leave the actual nature of his and Ren's relationship for Reisi to figure out on his own time.]

[Suzugamori and Kurosaki are friends close enough to be on a first name basis with each other. They apparently see each other often, Suzugamori seems to frequent Kurosaki's temple and likely will want to meet Reisi...

It probably won't take long for him to figure it out, but for now he's withholding judgment, accepting them at face value as close friends.
]

I see. In that case, I look forward to meeting him. Returning to the original subject... How long have you had Tenjoin as your shinki?

[Reisi's curious about the lack of battle experience, and also wants to know if Kurosaki has worked any shinki in battle thus far. But first things first...]

[It wouldn't be too surprising to Shun to have it figured out, but for now he prefers to keep it to himself, so he goes with returning to the original subject quite easily. There's a faint, quick grimace as Shun recalls the information, because it's much easier than he'd like it to be to remember the day Joker disappeared.]

Since June eleventh, so a little over a month now. He sometimes comes on patrols with me, but he still has some trouble with basic things like drawing borderlines, and it's been surprisingly quiet in that time, so we haven't fought together as much as I'd like.

[Which reminds him, he should probably look out for Yukine at the training event on the off chance that he's there...

There's what appears to be a large hill coming into view in the far distance, though a very keen eye may notice the light reflections marking the locations of windows at its base, and the too neat to be natural copse of trees just to the side of it.]
