The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

Blue? And... very full. [Celestia isn't certain what exactly he wants to know here. What kind of backpack is there but... a backpack?]

[He's at a school. There are so many different kinds of backpacks. But after consideration, he shakes his head.]

I don't think it's here...

I was afraid of that. Have you seen a pony a little younger than me, and blue? My sister might have it.

You're the first pony I've seen ever.

[....While this is true, he also has amnesia, so. It's not as impressive as it could be. But she doesn't need to know that.]

I do, yes. And wings, because I'm an alicorn. [She spreads her wings slightly -- unlike her proper self, who keeps her wings half-extended and on display as a matter of course, young Celestia tucks them up like a normal pony.]

[kokuyoyo]

Can I touch them? [It's blurted out all of a sudden, but then he shrinks back in embarrassment.] Am I allowed to...

It's polite to ask first, but since you did, you may. [Celestia straightens up and holds very still, lowering her head and spreading her wings. There's no harm in indulging a curious young colt.]

[Starstruck, he takes a few tentative step forward before it quickens into a sudden trot, leaving him to stop abruptly before her. He's careful as he reaches out to touch her, not wanting to hurt her or anything.]

Wow.... They're so smooth and soft...

[Her feathers shiver slightly as he touches them, though she stays otherwise quite still. The compliment, though, is a little embarrassing.] Oh... thank you. I try to take care of myself?

[After a few gentle pets, he stops, but doesn't step away. This is blowing a child's mind, Celestia. Just so you know.]

Did you always have wings?

Yes, I did. Natural-born alicorns are very rare, but me and my sister are a pair!

[kokuyoyo]

Oh wow.... That's really cool.

[So an alicorn is a winged horse with a horn... You learn something new every day.]

But, um- does that mean there are ali... alicorns that aren't?

Yes, it's possible for a pony to become an alicorn! But I don't know how, to be honest with you. It must take very powerful magic.

[She's right, as her older self could confirm, but not in the way she thinks she is.]

Do you know magic?

....Can anybody learn magic?

[Boy would his mind be blown if anyone told him about shinki magic. And boy would Hakkai be annoyed at the tiny borderlines springing up at the stairs.]

[Well, this Celestia isn't too up on shinki magic -- so the Far Shore might be save another couple of days.] Spellcasting for ponies takes a horn. But I think some humans are different?

[kokuyoyo]

[Reaching up, he spreads his fingers over his forehead.]

Do you think a fake horn would be good? I could tie something.

[letteropener]

No, no, it needs to be real. You need a horn for spells like you need a hand for fingers! [She's very proud of this analogy.]

[kokuyoyo]

Oh. [His hands slide down in disappointment.] Then... I guess I'll have to do it the human way..... If there is one.

[letteropener]

I've seen humans use magic here, so there must be. I just don't know what it is. I'm sorry. [She truly is genuinely regretful she can't help.]

[kokuyoyo]

Really? [That has his attention, blinking. He hasn't seen anybody do anything- but then, he's also run away from any adults who've gotten near him.] What'd they do?

[Celestia runs straight into the fog of memory that her transformation has left her with, and leans her head back slightly as she finds herself lost within it.]

Goodness, I'm -- I know there was something, but I can't bring it to mind!

[kokuyoyo]

Oh...

[He slumps a little bit.]

...Well. Someone said this was a school... And you learn things in schools, right? Maybe they'll have something here...

I hope so. I'd like to learn a lot of things, to be honest -- especially all about humans!

[kokuyoyo]

I mean... I'm a human. But... I'm a kid still...

[So he's not sure how much he could help there.]
