016 | The Good Old Days

Who: Everyone!
What: Ageswapping
When: July 15-17
Where: Everywhere
Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

Edit: OVERFLOW is here!

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

In Summary:
  • Meet the newbies
  • Get aged or de-aged
  • Deal with other too young/too old people
  • Try to handle the consequences
  • Have fun~

[That's actually kind of reassuring, and Shun laughs a little.] At least it's not just me, then. So you're a god as well?

[She can't be that much older than him, either, which puts him a little at ease in terms of how someone his age probably shouldn't be getting that kind of responsibility. At her mention of criteria, though, Shun frowns a bit before reaching into his pocket to pull out the phone he woke up with.]

I don't think I've even heard of Nekhbet, so I can't really judge that. [So time to look it up, he supposes - though if anything, he looks even more confused when he does.] ...I'm a death god?

[That sounds both morbid and not really appropriate to him. He hasn't even seen a dead body before.]

I am. I'm here as Nanshe, from the Sumerian pantheon. She was a goddess who looked after widows and orphans and people misplaced by war. [ His confusion gets a small laugh from her as she lifts her shoulders in a shrug. ] Something like that, yes. Although gods are often more than just one thing. I know you've spoken of doing things to ease the sorrow of grieving relatives before. And you have a couple pet vultures that live outside the temple, in the garden.

Sounds like a tough job for both of us, then. [He wouldn't have picked her as having a role like that just on seeing her, but then, Shun has to figure that a lot of people would end up having to deal with rough duties when it comes to godhood.] I saw the vultures this morning, yeah, or some of them. It still all seems pretty weird, but you sound like you know me well enough to believe it.

[And actually, he woke up with this phone, so maybe there's some information on it. Time to check it out, now that he's done reading up on his god.] I wonder if this has anything from before I forgot...

[After swiping through a few private conversations without doing much more than skimming the contents and noting he seems a bit terse in his replies, he finds the image gallery and opens it up. There's less than a handful of pictures in there, which is surprising in itself, but then he opens the first one, peers at it for a few moments, and then pulls back looking both confused and a little embarrassed.]

What the hell...?

[ Uncertain what he'd found, she blinks and leans in, wondering what had caught his eye. ]

What is it? Is something wrong?

[Initially, Shun hides the screen of the phone from her, still looking like he has no idea what to make of it himself. After a few moments of thought on it, though, he grimaces, lets out a breath and turns it to face her. At least she might know something more about it than he does right now.

In the image, the Tanabata bridge might be easy to recognise in the background, given it had been the centerpiece of that particular festival. Of more note, though, is the focus of the image - Shun at his normal age and dressed as he had been that night, fingers of one hand interlaced with Ren's. It's quite clear they were walking the bridge together, and while Shun in the photo isn't exactly smiling, he does have an unusually soft look of surprise, and a telling shadow of pink to his cheeks.]

...I think I'd call opening your phone to find a picture of you holding hands with some guy you don't know "something wrong". [Apparently, the younger Shun is embarrassed enough about this discovery to not be meeting her eyes as he says that.]
