The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

Shut up!! [ mei squawks, his voice cracking again (someone had a hard time with puberty, not that kazuya probably doesn't already know)--that at least gets him to stop trying to yell. his cheeks are flushed a brilliant red, and he stamps his foot like a child, gesturing widely with his arms. ]

What the hell happened?! Why are you--why am I--, this better not be some stupid dream!

[ look this totally merited a Narumiya Mei Freakout ]

[ Enter Sanada from stage left, as shrunken as the rest of his teammates although not truly as perturbed about it. Sure, it had been disorienting to get out of bed to find that everything is just a little harder to reach, but strange things tend to happen in the Far Shore and, well. Why let that ruin his day?

But he’s made an early start as well, and had taken the time to shower before joining the others in the kitchen, partially summoned by Mei’s impressive screeching before giving the two an amused once-over. ]

Hey, you guys are pretty cute like this!

If it was a stupid dream, I'm pretty sure you'd have screamed yourself awake by now.

[ Miyuki snickers, his shittiest laugh ever, amplified by the fact he's prepubescent and tiny and was infinitely more punchable, somehow, at that age. But he perks up when Sanada comes out, and gives him a cheerful wave, like this isn't the strangest thing they've dealt with so far.

(It isn't, to be fair, but he's pushed the parade of the dead so far back that he's trying to forget it ever happened.) ]

I have no idea what happened, but at least me 'n Sanada are handling it a lot better than you. [ Big shocker. ]

I am not! [ mei ends up just half responding to kazuya, half responding to sanada, throwing both of his arms up in the air like that will solve all of his problems and get all his frustration out at once. why is no one else freaking out about this?!?! mei is eleven! he couldn't even throw a proper changeup at eleven!!! ]

Both of you suck! [ nice, smart. he points to sanada. ] You, stop being so relaxed!! [ and whirls and turns to kazuya, too. ] You, stop being so--so--so Kazuya!

I'm going to fix this. [ with a loud and obnoxious harrumph, folding his arms now. ] As soon as I find the person that did it, I'm gonna wring their neck!!

[ Punchable? He can’t see it, man, but he’ll wave back while Mei lets it all out. Kind of hard to panic when someone else is already doing such a good job of it, y’know? Might as well get it all out of the way before school starts.

He gives Mei a consoling pat on the shoulder. ]

Sure you will. [ He might have entirely too much confidence in Mei—which is to say that he’s got any to begin with, but hey. ]

But right now I’m hungry. Hey, Miyuki, what are you making today?

[ What's the point in panicking, anyways? This could be so much worse - they could just, you know, not remember anything. Mei panicking about being six or seven years younger is better than a little kid wandering around lost because they've forgotten that they live in a gigantic temple in the land of spirits. ]

If you're going to fix this, then you can sit down and eat before you go storming across the Heavens. [ Deadpan, but he shrugs a shoulder at Sanada as he turns back around. ]

Okonomiyaki. I already had the ingredients prepared last night, so I wasn't gonna waste 'em.

[changeups]

[ that's it, mei hates them both. he fumes for a second longer, especially when sanada pats his shoulder--don't patronize him!!--but ends up just throwing himself into a seat at their table with a loud, pouty huff.

somehow his attitude is even worse in this tiny body?? who would've thought. ] Ugh. [ either way, kazuya cooking even in this tiny body isn't that weird--mei remembers it from when they were in middle school, poring over the same scorebooks at kazuya's kitchen table--but that doesn't mean he's okay with this situation. ok.

he drops his chin into his hand, mouth drawn down into a frown. ] How long is this supposed to last? My feet don't even touch the floor. I can't practice like this.

[ what a whiner??? ]

Hey, let me help! [ Ignoring Mei for the moment—can’t deal with you on an empty stomach, bruh—as he goes to fetch a stool for himself. But when he returns— ]
