The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[mithrarin]

[There is a certain amount of balance in this, since Dust has been scrambling around trying to take care of all these kids as one of the few adults left. His response is pretty quick; he drops to one knee, offering the poor kid half a sandwich.] Here you go.

[mermaiding]

[Oona looks startled by the swift response, but she takes the sandwich anyhow with a wide-eyed look.]

...Eat? [She tilts it around curiously, before nibbling on one edge before her eyes light up in delight. There's a pleased noise and she looks around hopefully] Eat more?

[mithrarin]

Help yourself. That's all yours.

[Dust realizes this is Oona with a sudden abrupt start -- the way she talks gives it away, even if she looks different enough that he hadn't picked it up till just now.]

[mermaiding]

[Oona gives a pleased little chirp and immediately shoves more in her mouth-- a bit too much, though, because she starts coughing and swallows hard to get the rest of it down... And apparently hasn't learned her lesson because she just. Shoves more in. Again.

Help her.

Still, she looks pleased and when she swallows the next mouthful, she points at Dust with triumph and announces:] Boyfriend!

[mithrarin]

Uh.

I'm going to assume you mean that as in I'm a friend who's also a boy. [Not only is this a disaster on so many levels, he has to wonder if Oona will remember this when everything goes back to normal.]

[Sighing to himself, he holds up a hand gently.] Slow down on your chewing, you'll make yourself feel bad if you eat too fast.

[mermaiding]

[Oona stares a moment, not entirely sure what the difference is between what he's saying and what she'd declared. Yes and no?] Boyfriend. [She frowns at him and it's said stubbornly, before she looks thoughtful and tries to explain better.] Many boyfriends. [And she nods, because this is how it's supposed to be. What was the human word for what this sort of thing was...?

She struggles a moment to think of it ,and then perks up to loudly declare:] Harem! [NAILED IT. She looks so proud of herself.]

[mithrarin]

[Yeah, he's doomed.]

...Where did you even learn that word? [That's probably last on the list of relevant questions he needs to ask, but all the rest of them are both problematic on their own and could very well lead to her running off in a huff and getting into more trouble elsewhere. If he goes along with this as much as he safely can, maybe he can at least look out for her long enough for all this to end.]

[He'll deal with whatever comes afterwards.]

[mermaiding]

[She tilts her head, linking at him in confusion] Mother. [Said matter-of-factly. Because where else would she learn it??]

Sister-boyfriends! A lot boyfriends. [She nods. Her older sister had a mate already and another in the works. But talking about her family just makes her sad again and she nibbles on her food some more, slower this time.]

...Home...

[mithrarin]

That's how your family does things? [...Wild. Takes all kinds, he supposes.]

I'd like to go home too. [As far as he knows, so it isn't quite a lie. He'd like to remember home.] But till then, how 'bout you stick with me?

[mermaiding]

[Oona's brow furrows and she tilts her head in confusion as if to ask 'doesn't everyone's?' That's a normal thing, isn't it??

She eyes him at the question, but nods. He's interesting and gave her food, so there's no way he can be bad, right? She gives a curious little whistle that seems to be asking 'who are you?']

[mithrarin]

[...As far as he knows it isn't, but what does he know? He might have a harem of his own in life.]

[...probably not. And now he's remembering that her memory would have gone away with her years, and so too his name.]

I'm Dust. We met before, but I don't think you remember.

[mermaiding]

Dust. [She repeats it and looks pleased, and then confused.]

Remember? [Why wouldn't she remember? Though it's true she doesn't remember how she got here or how she turned human... She looks down at herself and then around, wondering why she hadn't thought to question that more before now.] Why?

[mithrarin]

Because some very weird things are going on right now. [This is both an understatement, and all he knows. Not very helpful, but how does he explain that she's suddenly much younger than she should be?]
