016 | The Good Old Days

Who: Everyone!
What: Ageswapping
When: July 15-17
Where: Everywhere
Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

Edit: OVERFLOW is here!

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

In Summary:
  • Meet the newbies
  • Get aged or de-aged
  • Deal with other too young/too old people
  • Try to handle the consequences
  • Have fun~

Maybe.

[Hijikata looks the young man up and down quietly for a moment, then takes another drag from his pipe, sighing the smoke out.]

But I'm not sure. I thought I'd only arrived here yesterday, but...

[But something about that just doesn't line up. Other people's ages have been shifting, and he found a book of poems he doesn't remember, written in his own hand...]

[That sounds kind of weird to Shun still, but this guy seems pretty preoccupied with it, so he takes a moment to consider it himself.]

I think there's something weird going on anyway, but we'd have to remember something if we'd been here before, right? [Not mentioning the fact that Shun's been getting a feeling he can only describe as deja vu about this place on and off. As if he'd been here long enough ago that the whole thing had slipped his mind.]

Maybe there's people who know what's going on somewhere, but I haven't met them yet if there are.

If there are, it'd be damn decent of them to give the rest of us some kind of heads-up.

[Seriously, he's flying pretty blind, and he doesn't like that. He's perceptive enough to pick up a lot on his own, but all the weirdness of this place feels like it's putting him at a distinct disadvantage regardless.]

You'd think we'd remember, but I'm not sure the evidence really points to that right now.

Maybe they can't. I mean, if this is happening all over this place, they're probably busy trying to solve it instead of telling people about it. [It seems a bit backwards to him, but maybe they think they can fix it before it becomes necessary to explain it to everyone.

There is a fair point when it comes to what the evidence suggests, and Shun grimaces a little.]
I don't like the idea of having been here any longer than this and not knowing. Especially if it's this thorough.

I don't know. I figure if there's been an older "me" around, he's probably found all kinds of ways to make himself useful!

[There it is. Evidence that Hijikata was, in fact, an actual child at some point.]

I do want to know about it, though. I've got a lot of questions right now, you know?

I don't even know what an older me would have been doing. I don't have any experience with...whatever it is we're meant to be doing here. [If only he knew.

One thing Shun does definitely know, though, is what it feels like to have a lot of questions about this, and he nods in agreement.]
So do I. How and why I'm here are the main ones.

Well, let's see. Are you a god, or a shinki?

[He's only picked up a little knowledge in the last day or so, but that won't stop him from acting like he's on top of things when he can!]
revolutionfalcon: ((prewar) are you for real)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-05-20 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure. I don't have a name on me anywhere, so I think I'm a god. [Shun's only heard the absolute basics of the whole god/shinki thing, and even that's pulled from scrolling through the BBS he'd found open on the phone he woke up with.]

What about you?
ambitioninwait: (And highways I call home)

[personal profile] ambitioninwait 2017-05-20 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's a question that perks him up pretty obviously, his chest puffing up with clear pride.]

Shinki can't remember who they were before, so I'm sure I'm a god. Hachiman, if I woke up in the right temple.

[A universally revered and beloved god of the samurai -- he really can't believe his luck! So cool.]

[Valid point. Shun can certainly remember where he'd been before here, so that serves to confirm his suspicion, and he nods seriously.]

I'm definitely a god as well, then. But I don't know which one, my temple didn't say anything about it.

[Maybe there's another way to find out?]
