The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

July 17th
[Okay, first of all: no. Second of all, getting aged up to somewhere in her forties kinda sucks.]

[S'not like she was ever glad to have died as young as she did, but, to reiterate: no.]

[Right when she needed to pick up some stuff, too. You know, bandages, ointments, painkillers...etc. Her means of getting that stuff—picking it up and then teleporting back to Surtr Temple—might not be entirely legal, but...eh.]

[ Oh look, it's the Kamen Rider, watching her pilfer things with utmost judgement. ]

Grandma said this: "People who steal things lose something greater within themselves." Haven't you heard?

[ Probably not, considering he just said it. ]

I need it. [What do you mean, "that's what they all say"?]

[But she has enough of a sense of this guy to know that he won't be satisfied with that answer, so she adds:] I'll pay 'em later.

[She doesn't even blink at that baldfaced lie.]

What does your grandma have to do with this, anyway?

No more than any number of mortals, I'm sure. [ That is, in fact, what they all say.

But Tendou seems to accept that answer, and extracts his own wallet, leaving enough to pay for the stuff on the counter. ]

My grandma taught me all that, and now I'm telling you. Being a resident of the Far Shore means mortal policemen will never find you, but this isn't the way to live.

[ Sorry, Reika. He's a Rider. He has to make sure people do the Right Thing. ]

...Seriously? [Goddamn whippersnapper, she's forty. (She has not, in fact, aged mentally at all to go with the physical change, so the prior statement is worthless.)]

Don't think this means I owe you or anything.

[Because in the scale of things, that's not even a lot. The thefts that landed her in prison were way more lucrative. But needs are needs.]

'Sides, I'm already dead. "The way to live" doesn't mean anything to me.

Just because I should be paid, doesn't mean I will be. It's tough.

[ Tendou shakes his head in exaggerated sorrow, but it should be really obvious that he's not being serious. He doesn't particularly enjoy paying for others' stuff, but in the grand scheme of things, it won't affect him much. ]

You say you're dead, but you're here, walking, talking, needing medicine. That sounds very much like being alive to me.

...I didn't have a choice. [For either of the times she'd been revived, but at least being a NEVER had had its perks. Occasionally.] You can't call it living when there's no future.

[She'd said it mostly to dissuade him, but it...does end up annoying her. She walks past him so she can exit the store.]

Naturally. There's only one Tendou Souji in this, or any world. I would be quite annoyed if people could just decide to be like me.

[ Even at times like these, he can't help but be cocky. Truly a model to all children everywhere. ]

But you don't have to be like me to be able to tell the time. We're always heading into the future. Unless you're going to disappear once this conversation ends, you have one.

[ In the most literal sense of the term. He knows what it's like to think there could be nothing better, but he got saved from that, so perhaps there's something he can do here. ]

So who is the medicine for then?
