016 | The Good Old Days

Who: Everyone!
What: Ageswapping
When: July 15-17
Where: Everywhere
Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

Edit: OVERFLOW is here!

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

In Summary:
  • Meet the newbies
  • Get aged or de-aged
  • Deal with other too young/too old people
  • Try to handle the consequences
  • Have fun~

With all the confusion, it's been a little difficult to get my bearings...!

But I'm sure I'll settle in with time.

[Or regain his memory. He's hoping that'll happen soon, and getting more and more cautious about what he says to older people in the meantime.

Certainly older people who knew him. But maybe, if he were careful, he'd be able to get a little more information out of Goten.]

That's a strange coincidence, though -- you said Hakkai was a teacher? I'm one myself.

Yeah, heck of a time to be in this place. I can get that, but like I said, if you need anything just ask. Even if everyone turns back to normal I'm pretty strong as a kid.

[Not that Goten wants to turn back to his normal self. There's still so much adult stuff he needs to try. But that aside, its so eerie how alike Gonou and Hakkai are. It certainly makes him easy to talk to. He has to be related to Hakkai somehow, its just to strange.]

Really? Yeah, Hakkai was one and I can show you the school if you want. [Idea! Goten genuinely perks up, smiling.]

Hey, you should try to teach there there too! Lots of people seemed to like it and I know they could use more teachers to teach stuff.

Yes, I think I'd like to! Do you know who else teaches there? I should talk to them.

[And co-workers should know more about his personal life, shouldn't they? Students and people who were usually children probably won't.]

I think it's still a work in progress kind of thing? I know it was Hakkai, Izumo...maybe Souji? I didn't really bother with the classes there besides tracking down Hakkai to teach me Chi stuff.

[Fight was so much more fun then studying. But he takes out his phone, scrolling through it. Luckily, this sudden teenage change has made Goten a bit more interested in technology. As a kid, he often forgot he even has a phone. But again, he's holding the device delicately]

I think Izumo saved it for me once....

[He mumbles the words as he searches his phone before finally perking up and holding it out so Hakkai can see the screen. Have one class schedule.]

Though with Hakkai not around, I donno whats gonna happen. I really like the school so...I think we should all just work together and keep it.

[For Hakkai and anyone else that likes the school. Even if Goten isn't into all the math, reading and stuff, his heart is still in the right place]

Thank you.

[Gonou leans over to look at the phone, quickly scanning the schedule. Izumo. All right, that's one name that's marked on the class schedule, and he'll have to find that Souji as well.]

That sounds like a good plan. Even without him here, there are still all the students, and there's no reason to let them go without an education.

[He pauses. If the only thing Goten was learning was chi control....]

... how old are you normally?

[He should be in school.]

Mmmhm! Izumo is a big help too I bet. He's the best.

[Really Goten has been lucky to have so many good teachers and he knows it. It shows in his smile goes. But the age question. Well..]

Um...I don't really know. Shinki don't remember anything besides their names but, uh...

[He leans down a bit to use his hand and the ground as a guide to give a rough idea of his height. About four feet.]

Shizuo guessed I was maybe seven or eight?

You should really be studying more than just chi at your age! How well can you read?

[Gonou's tone is stern. It is, after all, quite important: despite the boy's obvious talents, fighting isn't all he'll need to know. An education matters even for the spiritually powerful.

Perhaps most importantly for the kinds of people who will grow up to be able to blow up buildings with a thought, in fact. Without a good education, he'll just be a tool of others.]

Uh....

[Why does it matter?]

Okay, I guess? I struggle with a lot of words, but reading isn't that important, r-right?

[Cut him some slack Gonou, you're the first person to really get on his case about this. Sure he should at least do a little studying but it's so much more fun to be outside and training that way. If he wants to be a good shinki, then he needs to get stronger! Not read books!]

It's extremely important.

[Teacher mode: activate. He's speaking from his own experience, too, though. It's education that got him out of the orphanage, not social skills and not fighting ability (although, admittedly, it might have helped if he'd had any social skills to speak of.)

He crosses his arms.]

If you don't study, the only things you'll know are the things you've done. If you read, you can learn much more... without having to make all the mistakes yourself first.

[personal profile] songoten 2017-05-21 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[But reading is hard and boring!]

I thought it was better to learn from your mistakes?

[But Goten can already tell he isn't going to win this. Not against a teacher. He managed to get around it with Hakkai and even dodge Souji a bit. Izumo seemed to busy to notice so Goten's education never mattered before.]

Uh, I'll try to pick up a book or two, okay?

[When that will happen...he isn't going to say.]

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2017-05-22 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It is good to learn from your mistakes! It's even better to learn from other people's mistakes.

[And that's the advantage of education. It looks like he's made an impression, though, and leaning on him to back up that promise ("try," indeed) will have to wait until he's back to his normal age and Gonou -- whichever name he's going by at the time -- can use teacher authority to insist on it.]

I hope you will.

Yeah. Sure...no problem.

[Luckily he doesn't know you that well Gonou and with Hakkai gone he really doesn't have all the much reason to go to the school other then to maybe pester Yoon. It's not a lie but that 'try' is going to be a very small attempt. There's something off about this guy though and Goten can't place it. It must be because he has Hakkai's face]

What's something you've learned?

[While he's not into reading, hearing stories is totally different]

Hmm, let's see.

I learned how to cook from a book.

[He'd helped out in the orphanage cooking, but spices? Fancy cooking? No, those he'd all studied in cookbooks and guides. He'd considered, briefly, having his own restaurant -- but they're not very reliable sources of income. Maybe later, when they have enough savings to afford to start a new business....]
