The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[Lavi is all prepared to find other places to sleep or cave and go back to Cardia's temple if Ichiru says no.

Still, he finally gets off of the bench, looking at him.

Okay, lead the way.]

[ Zero takes his hand and leads the way. ]

What's your name?

[ We asks him as they head out. ]

It's Shaye.

[The hand holding gets him a bit curious, but by now, he's just tired enough that he doesn't mind.]

What's yours?

[littlest_knight]

[ It's a common gesture for him, and one he doesn't think about. ]

Zero.

The temple's not far from here.

[ripplesoflosttime]

[Honestly, he's just expecting random people to grab his hand.

So, he just gives a nod as he continues to follow Zero.]

[littlest_knight]

[ Zero will take him to the entrance to the Underworld which is shadowed by two pomegranate trees. ]

You shouldn't eat the fruit.

[ He points to the trees. ]

Someone told me they make you sick.

[ripplesoflosttime]

What kind of sick?

[There's a curious look at the fruit. They just look like regular pomegranates to him, so what could be wrong about that?]

They look like ordinary fruit to me.

[littlest_knight]

I don't know.

[ But he's not taking the chance. ]

It's this way.

[ He points to an old ruined temple that acts as a gate to the mouth of the entrance. When they reach it, Zero stops, unsure what kind of reaction Shaye would have to it. ]

Are you scared of the dark?

[ripplesoflosttime]

[A glance back at the fruit, but he follows Zero all the same.

The moment they stop at the mouth of the entrance, he looks at it. There's no fear on his face, but then again, not a lot of expressions show.]

I'm not.

[littlest_knight]

Let me know if you get scared. It's only a little bit.

[ He tells him as he leads him down into a red tunnel-like passage that moves underground depositing them in front of a river. ]

Okay.

[And down they go!

Lavi looks around curiously, taking it all in.]

Is this Hell?

[littlest_knight]

It's supposed to be the Underworld.

[ripplesoflosttime]

The Underworld--

[A blink and he looks at him.]

Odd place to live.

[littlest_knight]

[ He knows, but it's where they woke up. With no other place to go, well... it was better than sleeping outside, especially with Ichiru. He didn't want him to get a fever here. They didn't have his medicine here. ]

We have a protector here.

[ He found that little bit out after he tried to lead it away from Ichiru. ]

[ripplesoflosttime]

["Protector", huh?

He wonders if it's Cerberus since it'd be odd to be in the Underworld without its iconic guardian around.

So he just nods.]

[littlest_knight]

[ They move through the tunnel, their passage slower than normal in their smaller forms but eventually they reach the end opens up into a large underground cavern and before them lies the River Styx where Charon awaits at the edge of the river in a wooden boat.

The young hunter looks on in silence before moving toward the willow figure. He holds his hand a little tighter as they stop in front of the large looming figure hidden beneath the black robes. Sensing the god, the a black hood shifts down to them and the ghostly apparition turns corporal and a bony hand extends out toward the shinki. ]

You need to pay him.

[ripplesoflosttime]

[Upon seeing Charon, Lavi can immediately his shoulders tensing up. There's that initial urge to run, possibly drag Zero along with him, but at the same time, he figures that...there's something he could pay the ferryman with.

The only question is what.

So, he just kind of glances at Zero, a frown on his face.]

Can I give him anything as payment?

[littlest_knight]

Your hair.

[ It's what he wanted from Ichiru every time they crossed. ]

You pay with a strand of your hair.

[ripplesoflosttime]

[His hair?

That's...weird.

But Lavi lifts his free hand up in order to tug out a strand of pretty red hair and offers it to Charon.]

[littlest_knight]

[ The bony fingers wrap around the single strand and when they open again a red coin is revealed before it disappears into his robe. Payment given, Charon moves to allow them entry and ferries them across the open water that soon leads to a large underground lake formed from several waterfalls and at its center lies Hades Inner Temple. ]

[ripplesoflosttime]

[There's some awe in his expression as he takes the sight in.

He's not sure if he could readily believe in the fact that he's in Hades' temple, but the connections are quickly made and Zero is Hades. Greek God of the Underworld.

He looks around curiously, but doesn't pull away from Zero or dare to look down at the waters.]

[littlest_knight]

[ He's made the trip several times, mostly alone, so the awe-factor is long gone by now. Zero keeps his eyes up ahead, ignoring the shadowy figures that lie just beneath the depths. ]

Don't touch the water.

[ A warning. ]

[ripplesoflosttime]

[A blink as he looks at Zero.]

Just you and brother lives here?

[littlest_knight]

[ He looks up ahead, his eyes set on the temple where he'd left Ichiru. ]

It's where we woke up.

[ripplesoflosttime]

[That earns a bit of curiosity but he simply nods.

For now, he'll just stay quiet and let the other lead.]
