Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[There's a strange man in her house, and she doesn't like strange men (or rather strange unknown ones, she knows several strange men). His words make it through the panic and she stops screaming to look him over.

Okay, maybe it is him. But it's not...]

[ It takes tremendous effort to raise himself up onto his knees... and when he gets there, they settle into place with a disturbing crunch that makes him wonder if he'll be able to stand after this. ]

I am very old, my lady. And I do not know why.

[ She's not changed, though, praise her. At least whatever curse hit her temple it only affected him. ]

I did not mean to frighten you.

[She sets the statue down and rushes over to help him because that sounds really painful.]

It's okay, you didn't do it on purpose. Tot doesn't understand what happened though. You didn't look like this last night... Did you?

[She's pretty sure he didn't, but sometimes she forgets things.]

[ His heart races when she touches him, and he's careful to put as little weight as possible on her as he struggles to his feet. Still, he can't rise without her assistance; his hands are even more coarse and calloused than usual, his skin dry and cool. ]

I most certainly did not. [ He'll need to lean against the wall for a few moments before he can walk, but he's fine now, thank you. ] There has been something magical building for several days, and it seems that this is the result.

[ He glances at her from beneath his lashes, the gesture oddly shy. ]

I am... relieved, that you are not affected.

That would be really weird.

[It's hard enough remembering she's a god but to imagine herself as old? Nope, not possible.]

And it's a good thing Tot isn't since someone has to take care of you now.

[ Weird is not the word he would have chosen, but it's clearly the best choice. It would have been weird, yes. Very weird. ]

In your hands, blessed Tot, I have no doubt that I will be cured quickly.

[ If she wills it, that is. And if she's powerful enough to do so. There's faith, but Jay also has to recognize that there are mighty magicians here, with abilities that seem greater than even Tot's.

But that way lies doubt and blasphemy, so he puts the thoughts from his mind (which is surprisingly easy -- his old brains seem to want to drift, rather than holding tight to a single thought) and instead focuses on the more important matter at hand. ]

If I am affected, perhaps others have been as well.

[ She's so wise. Yes, of course, checking the internet is a much better plan than going directly outside... especially given how slowly he's moving. He's going to have to figure something out, and fast, because he can't be trapped inside until this problem is resolved. Either this is a Far Shore-wide problem and he needs to get out there and take advantage of the confusion, or he's been targeted specifically, in which case staying put would be beyond foolish. ]

[ He'll have to lean on her pretty heavily in order to get to the kitchen table -- note to self: no more kneeling. And once he's there he'll have to sit for a moment and breathe until the spots floating through his vision fade. This is a highly effective way to cripple an opponent. He'll have to remember this trick. ]
