Who: Everyone!
What: Ageswapping
When: July 15-17
Where: Everywhere
Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.
Edit: OVERFLOW is here!

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.
And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before
- Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.
July 16
- Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.
July 17
- Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.
Aftermath
- Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

In Summary:
- Meet the newbies
- Get aged or de-aged
- Deal with other too young/too old people
- Try to handle the consequences
- Have fun~

How romantic. There's certainly tension in the air, that's for sure, and it's not confined to the kitchen either. If either of them bothered to look out the window they'd see the blossoms close to the ground turning and tumbling in tight, repetitive circles.
They're getting nowhere fast with this conversation.]
You can't plow through it at all!
[He looks over his shoulder, having left his plate to clatter to the bottom of the sink. Rin knows they've had this conversation before--pretty sure it was the last one they had before he ultimately decided to move on from Sano to Iwatobi--but it's so easy to fall right back into it regardless. Maybe it's because Sousuke doesn't remember. Maybe it's because they're kids again and it's easier to get fired up over the smallest issue.
Either way, he's upset. He can't talk about the team like that! It's so... selfish.]
What does it matter? You should trust your team no matter what!
no subject
Sousuke might’ve caught onto the sakura petals outside if he bothered to look, but he’s not cause he’s got his stuffed under the counter. It’s not like it’s bad for them to fight about something; they can’t be perfect people all the time. Besides… this is starting to strike a nerve and Sousuke’s getting a little irritated about it.
Yeah, getting nowhere and both are still going at it with full force. Like idiots.]
Then you can’t climb over it either!
[It’s the same stupid idea! Just how someone gets it done; there’s nothing they have to “beat” each other at here!! Sousuke grabs at two bowls with a soft “finally” from his mouth and tugs the pair out with a grunt. He rocks back and lands on his butt, then bounces up and twists to his feet with a quick motion. One foot pops up to clunk against the door and knock the cabinet shut.
Ugh, and now Rin’s even more upset. Sousuke scowls as he sets the bowls down on the counter and starts working to pry the lids off.]
What does trusting do? Trust they’re gonna be there by the pool when you surface? It doesn’t make a difference in your swimming. If you fail, that’s no one’s fault but your own! And if you succeed, it’s cause you made it happen!
[A team’s not necessary for individual success, dammit!]
no subject
[Why are they arguing about this again.
He lets out a frustrated growl at that and while Sousuke busies himself with falling on his ass and slamming cabinet doors, Rin shuts off the sink, sets his dishes to the side to dry... then reaches over to start washing Sousuke's plates because, dammit, he might as well! It's not like he wants to or anything!]
You have to trust they'll be there no matter if you win or lose! That should be more than enough motivation to make a difference in your swimming! If you fall behind, so will your team! That's why you have to swim for them!
[FURIOUS SCRUBBING]
no subject
Probably because Rin thinks he’s got a point to prove and Sousuke’s having none of it.
He pries off one lid and sets it aside. Taking up the spatula again, he begins dolloping the omurice mixture into the glass round, forcing himself to pay attention to his work rather than glare at his friend at the sink. Ugh. Sousuke fails for a moment when he notices Rin grabbing his plate and chopsticks from the corner of his eye. Hmph, whatever. He can do what he wants. Sousuke’s putting the food away so fair’s fair.
Not like he’s doing it for both of them or anything; just doesn’t want it to go bad. Obviously.]
If you fall behind, that’s your own burden. I don’t want a team to have to shoulder my failures. And I don’t want to share victories with them either. You swim can’t swim for yourself and for a team.
[Theoretically, yes, you can. But that’s not what Rin’s getting at. Sousuke frowns again, something bothering him about his own words. He’s quick to locate it though as he scoops another spatula-full.]
You’re different.
[Sousuke was forced to share his burdens with Rin, and his failures. Any other way and he wouldn’t want to; internally it always bothers him when he messes up or fails in front of his best friend. But at the same time, when he made progress and championed an obstacle, it was always nice to glow as Rin looked on.
Wasn’t the same as a team though.]
no subject
[If the team’s right, they’ll be understanding no matter what happens. It sounds dumb to outsiders, but... the bonds between teammates in this sport matter just as much as the technicalities, and it isn’t impossible to swim for the sake of both. It’s easier to explain to other people, he thinks. Sousuke–
You’re different.
We can’t be on the same team.
Rin quietly watches the soap circle down the drain for a couple beats before shaking his head and shutting off the water. All the dishes are dry save for whatever utensils and such Sousuke’s using, so he dries his hands off on a kitchen towel before turning back towards the table for his drink. Hn. His mood’s turned sour after all that and he’s not so sure he wants to keep talking right now. So, drink in hand, Rin says nothing more as he shuffles his way out to the hallway.]
no subject
[One piece of a machine can’t just fail and the rest of the machine carry on like nothing happened! That’s what a team is and that’s what he’s arguing against. Just because you’re buddy buddy with your teammates doesn’t erase the fact your whole team just lost the race because you were slower than the other guy or you mistimed your exchange.
The fault’s still on you! Your strength, your timing, your skill.
Doesn’t matter if the team’s understanding either. They still lost. And if you’re fine with losing all the time, why bother competing in the first place? Sousuke just doesn’t understand what Rin’s fighting at here. It’s not exactly a logical way of thinking. Obviously it’s a romantic way of viewing sports and teams, but in reality…]
The fastest one wins.
[That’s the nature of the beast. Sousuke doesn’t follow after Rin’s departure to the table. The tension in the air’s obvious. He finishes packing up the food and sticking it in the refrigerator, the heads for the sink to clean up the utensils.]
no subject
[So what if it's a romantic view? It's better than being cynical and not acknowledging the team at all. Swimming by yourself, swimming for yourself... There's no sense in all that. But he knows when he's getting nowhere fast and drops the topic quickly, leaving his shinki behind before they can break any dishes or throw each other out the window.
Maybe he'll head down to the pool and swim off some of his feelings. Hmph. And he won't be inviting Sousuke. So there.
Towards the stairs he goes, kicking at the rugs and hardwood floors every so often so he doesn't lose his mind in all the space and quiet. Fastest one wins, huh. Well. There's a difference between being fast and rushing ahead.]
no subject
[In the end, what effort you put into your training, the effort you can wring from your own body, those are the elements that power you through the water. No matter who’s standing on the other side cheering you on, no matter who’s promised you they’ll be there to watch you do your best, in the end, you’re responsible for you. If you can’t win on your own strength… what’s the point of trying?
This is a point they’re never going to see eye to eye on. This argument, just like all the others, goes nowhere. Sousuke knows it’s pointless every time they have one, but every time it happens. The topic rises, they flare up, the topic drops, and they part ways. Probably for the best. Though he’s pretty sure the dishes are safe from getting beaned off Rin’s head… Pretty sure.
The kitchen is pretty big when it’s only himself in there. Hell, the castle feels huge. Without Rin nearby, Sousuke’s confronted with just how much space exists between himself and the walls around him. The ceiling arched overhead. The windows let in light from the vast temple grounds. Even the knowledge there are entire floors above and below him makes him feel very small and disconnected. It’s so easy to lose himself in the light of Rin’s smile and the charisma of his conversation and person. Everything else fades away when Rin’s with him.
But sometimes, they both need time apart. No matter how lonely it gets or how small he feels. He’d rather feel this way for a while than lash out and say something to Rin he’ll regret later.
The pound of carpet under his feet is rhythmic and steady, each beat jetting up his spine and moving his blood. Jogging through the castle halls isn’t as fun as jogging outside in the sakura grove or working out with the weights downstairs. But he doesn’t want to go outside and Rin’s downstairs in the pool. (Look, he knows Rin too well to think he’s anywhere else.)
They need this time. Cool off. Sousuke realizes how important swimming is to Rin. But Rin knows just as well how important swimming is to Sousuke. It’s just unfortunate their stubbornness clashes over a facet of the very element that has the most responsibility for bringing them together so tightly.
Hmph, he’ll leave Rin alone for an hour or two. Then go join him downstairs and see what happens.]
no subject
Of course by the time he does reach the pool, there's the issue of finding a pair of swim trunks and goggles that'll fit him. If he's drowning in his shirt and pants right now, then his chances of finding anything seem pretty slim. Hn. One of these lockers has to have something. He doesn't want to have to wander out into the city for new gear, especially when he looks so miserable and tiny.
In the end, pouting and probably worse off than before, Rin picks a starting block at one end of the pool and plops down, letting his legs dangle off the edge towards the water. Hmph. Figures he's still too short for his feet to even dip in.
... He hates the quiet.]
no subject
In the end, Sousuke didn’t like knowing Rin was hurt.
His guilt (even if it wasn’t exactly anyone’s “fault” for the argument) ate at him. Rin shouldn’t have to spend his day bummed and frustrated because of Sousuke. That burden isn’t for him to carry. With a tug, Sousuke pulls the door open and begins down the stairs, hands going into his pockets. Huge, oversized pockets that don’t help those low-riding pants stay up any easier. He finally pushes the other door open and wanders through the weight room, the various machines all empty and still reminding him of a creepy, metal forest of silver and black. Hmph… he probably couldn’t even lift one of those barbells.
Anyways, the familiar lap of water seeps into his ears, the tang of chlorine glides onto his tongue, and Sousuke emerges from the doorway, looking out at the pool. And at Rin sitting on the block. Looking lonely and silent. He sighs and steps out into the light. It doesn’t take long to pad over to Rin, coming to a stop a little bit behind him.]
… sorry.
no subject
He wishes his feet would reach the damn water.
If he can't swim, then he should at least try something more productive than sitting around. The workout room seems tempting. Until he remembers he probably won't be able to lift a single barbell without falling over backwards. Or--
--Sorry.
It startles him a bit, that higher pitched voice from the past. Saying something like that too... How long has it been? An hour? Two hours? Thirty minutes? Somehow he feels like this is a new record.]
It's nothing you have to apologize for.
[he mutters without turning away from the water. His reflection stares back at him, eyes rounder, face softer. It's hard to look cool and pensive when he's still a little kid.]
But it's like you said. ... This is just something we can't agree on.
[Not right now, at least.]
no subject
And yet, they can clash so hard. Frustrate each other over slight or deep things. This one right now… it’s not something they can resolve. Sousuke believes this too solidly to understand where Rin’s coming from. Strangely, he doesn’t feel… odd about it either, so he suspects his memories are/were probably in agreement with his thoughts even now. Which means… he and Rin must’ve fought about this very thing before.
… putting that thought aside for now.
Truth is, he misses Rin and he’s sorry for hurting him. His pride might still be glaring at him, but his heart’s not comfortable with the distance and irritation. They’ve only got each other (in a way) in this world. Their disagreements may hurt, may be intense, but they don’t last long. Like fire.
Sousuke offers a quiet sigh when Rin answers him without looking. He remains behind him and lifts his head, gazing out at the pool in front of him. Yeah, Rin says he has nothing to apologize for, but he already did and there’s no taking it back. Deal with it.]
Aa. [They may be similar in so many ways, but they’re still different. The same heart… but still two sides.] It’s all right. That just means we’re normal.
no subject
Not at all what they should be.
This... oddly enough, he's comfortable with this.
Swinging his feet again, Rin finally peeks over behind him, head tipping back so he'll be looking at his best friend from a slight upside down angle.]
I dunno about normal. [... hm.] You can be pretty weird.
no subject
Sousuke slips his hands back into his pockets, the shirt still hanging off one bare shoulder, fingers scrunching the base of his pockets to keep his pants from sliding further down his hips. The walk down the stairs loosened them and he’s not about to pull them back up to his chest in front of Rin. Never mind Rin’s looking at him upside down. It makes his hair fall away from his forehead and Sousuke finds himself thinking it looks like some kind of red beard hanging off a round chin… Phhbt--!]
I wouldn’t be talking, weirdo. [One handed cocky gesture for you.] You’re the king of weird here.
no subject
Oh? The king?
[At least it's not princess this time. Rin straightens up again, this time turning on his starting platform so he'll be facing sideways, legs hiked up into a crossed position beneath his knees. Just like that, he's comfortable again, all tension left in his system dissipating into the ground.]
Then I'm making you the queen.
[Snicker]
no subject
Uh-huh.
[The king of weird. Yeah, could’ve said princess, but… meh, had enough of that for now. Sousuke leans his head back a bit as Rin pulls himself up, eyeing his best friend with a “superior” expression as he turns to face him. Definitely gearing up for a proper comeback with that position. He recognizes it, especially with the crossed legs—
Guh--?!] QUEEN?!
[And he just spared you the ‘princess’ comment!!! Ungrateful little stinker! Sousuke drops his shoulders from his sudden, surprised hike, and the shocked look on his face abruptly smooths into a smug one as he walks to Rin, upper body leaned forward in an “intimidating” poise. Until he’s right in front of him. All smirky and stuff.]
Then ‘off with his head’!
[And quickly swings one arm around Rin’s neck, putting him in a—loose—headlock.]
no subject
Hah! Score. Looks like that one got to him good~ Rin snickers in victory, one little sharp fang poking out when he grins, but that all fades once he spots Sousuke stomping on over to him. Oh, so you're gonna go and be all smirky too, are you? You can't out-smirk the master!
... And you can't go headlocking him either!]
Mouuu, Sousuke!!
[he squeaks, arms coming up to grab at the other boy's arm to try and push it off. Legs kick out and he pushes back into his chest while he's at it. You're the stinker!]
Lemme go!
no subject
[There’s a reason he’s not asked, bro. Because he looks good like this and you can’t tell him otherwise. Besides, he’s got way more important things to do than mess around with how good his shirt looks on him. Like keep this big mouth in a headlock and rub his hair until it ignited! Hah! You should learn not to mess with him, Rin! He’s bigger and stronger (and a lanky noodle right now) and better than you!
His smirk is totally deserved. Who’s got the upper hand now, “King” shark? Rub rub rub. Victory is his! Hail the “Queen”! (Don’t you dare.)
Sousuke “wrestles” against the grip, refusing to release him. Whoa! Calm down! Stop kicking! Oy! He braces his feet on the floor, trying to keep his balance.] Oy! Rin! No! [Stubborn is as stubborn does. But Rin’s not making it easy and finally, Sousuke releases him with a quick yelp, barely avoiding a heel to the foot.]
Hah! You should see your hair. It’s all… poofy!
no subject
Just like he can take care of fending you off of him before you end up lighting his scalp on fire. It may not look like much yet, but he's trying! Smacking at Sousuke's arms in between laughs, lanky legs flailing out in front of him so he can pick up some momentum and strength. Ugh, he's always been good at the headlocks, but usually it was Kisumi who ended up stuck in them. This is just unfair!
Finally, that arm drops away and Rin pitches forward with a gasp, head shaking to straighten his hair back out (somewhat) and legs struggling to find their place back on the ground instead of into the water. Ugh, he likes some volume in his locks, but not this much!]
Souuusukeeee...
[he sneers, spinning around in his seat to face his best friend, arms extended with fingers twitching. Oh, that does it.]
You asked for it!
[And lunge! He leaps from his starting block and shoves his hands forward, aiming to get them right at Sousuke's sides where he knows his weakest, most ticklish spots are.]
no subject
There’s no such thing as unfair in friendly fire!
But ultimately he lets go, deciding his feet are more important than showing off his admittedly-very-lanky strength. Sousuke lifts both arms in a show of “I give” as he backs up a step or two to let Rin catch his breath. Doesn’t stop him from being all smug about his victory though. Nose slightly up in the air, a grin plastered on his face, and chest rising and falling in slight exertion with his breaths.] Phhht… [That poofy red hai—
Urk-
He freezes, a trickle of sweat dropping down the back of his neck and the corners of his mouth twitching. Uh-oh. Sousuke thinks he’s the one that has the edge when it comes to the number of times they’ve growled like that at each other. But funny thing is… Mr. Romantic can be Mr. Really Freaking Scary. The sneering look and tone of his name earn a quick gulp and Sousuke double checks the position of his feet. Because when those arms come up, fingers all claws and ready…
RUN FOR IT!]
YIPE!
[Oh crap! He’s too late! Sousuke’s half twisted when he feels fingers right at his sides and his eyes go as wide as saucers.] OY! RIN! DON—MPHHT! [Not there! Hey, dammit, don’t try to tick- Don’t ti—RIN!]
no subject
Well, at least he still has his ace up his sleeve and for once Sousuke's smart enough to notice. Maybe he'll dodge in time, maybe he'll run away back up the stairs... or he'll totally screw up on the turn and give Rin the perfect amount of room to attack. Well, well! This is quite the turn of events!
He grins wide, victorious, and immediately gets to work wriggling his fingers. Take that! And that!]
I got you now! You can't escape me!
[TICKLE TICKLE TICKLE]
Now you'll have to beg for mercy!
no subject
Not that it actually is of any help when his legs completely screw up and he almost faceplants on the floor. Is Rin concerned? Hell no! He jumps right on him like a monster taking advantage of its prey! Jeeze, cut it out! Rin! He’s trying to breathe here! Can’t you hear him gasping and panting through his laughter?!]
Riiin! [Get your noodle arms and legs off him! Ugh! He’s trying his best to swat and kick (half-assed on the kicking part) and wriggle his body on the floor in any attempt to get away from those wicked hands!] Oy-oy! Qu-quit it! Gah! Rin! [More laughing and he’s starting to get red in the face from embarrassment and trying (and failing) to hold in his laughter. How’s he supposed to look cool when he's gasping like a fish?!]
St-stop it!
[No begging! Never! Swat swat swat!]
no subject
Anyway, you're darn right he's after his prey and like any respectful predator he's going to take advantage of this weakness to the very best of his ability. That includes leaping and never letting up a single second, even when his best friend goes toppling onto the ground in a wriggling, giggling mess.]
You gotta ask nicely! Come on, I can't hear you!
[TICKLE TICKLE TICKLE]
no subject
Not that he can say any of that when he’s doing his damnest to try and get some breath back into his lungs. Sousuke bats and swats at Rin’s hands with growing desperation, air shooting out with every laugh. Stop it! He tries to get some bearing, get a hand behind himself, push himself up, but one good slip and he’s splat back on his back, wheezing and shoving at Rin’s shoulders one moment, then yelping and going for his hands the next.
Ask nicely?! How about just trying to ask?!] R-Rin! [Breaking into gasping breaths, he bursts out laughing again, clenching his mouth shut a second later and doing his best to keep it in. Which just means some pathetic hissing and snorting that makes things a billion times worse.] I-I can’t… can’teventalk! [Well, barely. In sheer anxiety, he shoves both knees and legs up, clamps them around Rin’s hips, and wrenches to the side. Look, if he can just… get on top of you… he can pin those arms!
Still laughing and wobbling and failing. BUT NOT BEGGING!]
no subject
Whoa! Hold on there! You can't expect to pin him down that easily! Rin wrestles back, mustering every ounce of strength in his tiny body to throw off the momentum in Sousuke's legs in the opposite direction so he can stay upright. Well, at least it does get him to stop tickling for a second. So that's one success, isn't it?]
Mouu, you're so wiggly! Stay down!
