May Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: July 15
Where: Bishamon's temple, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods (although there's none this time) and shinki

The product of many meetings and recommendations, at last it has taken shape. On this day, in anticipation of the new arrivals who appear in a recognized pattern, Heaven has partnered with the new gods and shinki to organize a very helpful informational reception.

The shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided kindly towards Bishamon's temple. And in that vast complex they are brought to a traditional-style dojo.
Here the newly arrived gods are gathered, so finding their partner is more simple. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the aspects of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki, or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training

Bishamon herself, as well as Amaterasu's ever-present shinki and any volunteering gods, will be the foremost source of information regarding being a god and what is expected of them, such as prayers. It is encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Newly arrived gods are still expected to communicate to their shinki the information* they themselves get oriented with when they arrive.

Shinki Training

Various volunteers are stationed around the building, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. There are many shinki, including Bishamon's and Amaterasu's, who will be more than happy to train in using the borderline and some of the basics of what is expected of a shinki. It is encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Bishamon's lead shinki Kazuma offers a lecture to new arrivals that will thoroughly cover some essential points about teamwork with both shinki and other gods.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern. There are volunteers here as well, willing to assist in basic training. (Or even more advanced sparring, depending on the volunteer.) Essential for gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes.
Also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

Rest and Refreshments

There is a garden off the dojo that is free to be used for rest and conversation.
Should anyone wander outside the designated area, some shinki of Bishamon's will attach themselves to them and not leave them be until they return to the dojo.

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're just taking a quick break to cool down. Even hand towels are provided by Bishamon's helpful shinki. The Heavens wants everyone to stay in good condition!

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Don't get dehydrated
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

[She just shakes her head slightly.]

There is no substitute for first-hand observation. Everyone sees the same event differently. Not that this is nearly as serious as Rashomon.

[She makes a slight apologetic gesture to dismiss that- she doesn't expect someone from another world to get such a subtle reference.]

As for Obon, it is an essential festival for Japan. Your continued support of maintaining the proper duties of heaven is appreciated. [And expected. However she will not hold his personal opinion against him.]

[In this case, it's less an issue of Shun being from another world and more him not having contact with popular culture for the last few years. So he raises a brow at the remark, but doesn't actually question it.]

There are still other serious matters I would've figured the older gods were dedicating their time to. [Amaterasu's temple's destruction, the murders a week or so ago...there's definitely been some tension rising recently that needs dealing with.

There's a faint snort at her final remark.]
If I cared that much about "proper duties", I'd be over there. [He points with his practice sword over towards the groups of old and new gods discussing what's expected of them here.] I'd just rather not deal with this many festivals at once.

We dedicate our time as our natures allow. If you are concerned over those other matters, you are of course free to direct your attention to them as well.

If you find dealing with festivals unpalatable, regard them as ‘ceremonies’ instead. Humans can shift the meaning of anything over time, but the origin was indeed ceremonial.

I've been trying. It'd help if the information from things like the shinki investigating those murders the other week was handed on promptly.

[Not wanting people to interfere with the scene was one thing, doing that and then not giving them any actual information on it was another one entirely.

The concept of "ceremonies" doesn't have Shun looking any more impressed.]
Ceremonies are usually just unnecessary shows of formality. That doesn't make the idea any more palatable.

[That depends on your perspective of what 'prompt' is, Kurosaki.
But she makes no comment, trusting that he will get his information in the end.]

"Usually" is not "always". Yet, unpalatable though it be by any guise, we expect your continued cooperation at those times. [She cannot help but draw the parallel to a child who doesn't like peas who is still expected to finish his whole meal. The image brings a lightness to her tone.]

Obon is not today though. I shall continue my observations, and leave you to your own contribution to today.

[There's a faint snort at that.] I'm too busy dealing with the trouble around here to start any. But that's not going to be true of everyone.

[In other words, it's more the continued cooperation of everyone else she has to worry about. Shun's own is mostly incidental from the fact that their aims seem to be vaguely in alignment.

Once she seems to excuse herself, Shun gives a slight shrug.]
I doubt it'll go much differently to the last one, but maybe there'll be something interesting for you.

[She takes his comment as both an assurance of his cooperation, and an oblique warning. It is true, after all, that the nature of some will be to start trouble of their own, no matter the circumstances.

She replies as she turns to go,]

There always is. [Humans are fascinating, after all. And as most of these new gods seem to have been human before this, they certainly retrain all those traits.
With that, she returns to the most shaded places of the training hall to continue her observations.]
