Hakkai (16th am)
Sorry, Hakkai-san. I mean, Gonou-san. … No one wants to hear that something like that will happen to them, huh. Although, at this point it feels like the future-you is a totally different person. You even have another name. And if this whatever-happened doesn’t change back after a few days, then… you get a whole new future, right?
[Have an awkward attempt to make you feel better from your ‘senpai’?]
no subject
Where is Kanan?
And if he starts a new future here without her... no. No, he doesn't know if he can. He tries, shakily, to smile and casts about for a subject change, quick.]
Maybe you're right.
At least I can tell myself Sister Agnes was wrong about reading ruining my eyesight.
[Some horrible accident is going to ruin it instead! That's funny, right. From his dry glance at Yukine, it's clear it's supposed to be funny, anyway.]
no subject
Wha- [Sorry, but Yukine's taking it seriously.] No, I didn't mean- I'm sorry, okay? L-Let's not talk about that anymore. [Looking down for a moment he tries to gather himself and think of something else.]
Um- If there's a lot of people who have been changed like this, you should probably stay in one place while things get sorted. [Glancing at the broom he adds,] You weren't planning on going anywhere else today? [Because he looks like he might just do chores around the school?]
no subject
You're probably right. I was going to stay here for the day, at least. It seems if anyone knows me, this is where they'll look.
It sounds like I'm ... relatively well known?
[That's something. His glance at Yukine is unsure, looking for confirmation. He suspects it's true, though. Even with so many people reduced to lost children, he's run into a few people who recognize him -- or recognize "Hakkai" -- already.]
no subject
Heh, not just ‘relatively’. Out of the new shinki, I’d say you’re really well known. Mostly ‘cause of this. [He gestures at the school.]
Ever since you first got here, you’ve worked really hard to get lessons going for us. A lot of people appreciate it.
[He knows he sure does.]
no subject
[His tone is still a little uncertain, but there's a bit of cheerful amusement there, too.
'Ever since you first got here'... he wonders how long it's been, but he doesn't ask. He's a little afraid to know.]
Are there usually so many young shinki around?
no subject
Usually? I think out of the new gods and shinki, only a few of them are really young. So going by you saying that you’ve met a bunch of kids who know you already today… nope, this is weird.
‘Weird’ is par for the course for the new gods and shinki though. So that’s why I’m not too worried yet.
no subject
[Blunt, but: well. It's not. He doesn't want to hear how weird his existence is! He wants to know what's happening, and all he can guess for now is that whatever is happening is bizarre.
So even the people who aren't completely lost here are lost enough....]
Most of the children haven't known me, but most of them seem to be new shinki who don't know anyone, as far as I can tell.
(that was what happens when I can't go back and read the whole thread /o\)
Sorry to not be encouraging. It’s just how it is, though. We keep trying to find clues about what’s happening, but then nothing turns up, or something like this happens and sets us back while we try to find out why this happened.
no subject
[Gonou exhales wearily and turns to pick his broom up again. Nothing makes sense, but there's still part of a courtyard to sweep, and that's a place to start.]
... if someone is trying to keep us all lost and off balance, they're doing an excellent job.
no subject
It sucks, but you’re right. So good luck to us both getting through this.
[He gestures to the broom.] I'll leave you to that, then. If you wanna talk more though, I'll just be studying inside.
no subject
Thank you. I'll be doing chores around the building for a while. Let me know if there's anything I should help with.
[Food raids from the upstairs delinquents, for example. Something catching fire or falling down the stairs....]
