[ She doesn't want to give him a name right now, does she? That's okay. He'll just have to prove to her what a useful person he is! He nods, taking a deep breath to shake off that creeping sadness. There's nothing to be sad about! He can stay with her, and she's got ways he can earn his keep, and if he's good at it, maybe he can stay with her permanently. Or at least until he remembers where his family is. ]

Okay. But when you do give me a name, maybe my new name can use the sha for 'yarn' too!

[You'll thank her when you're older, Gojyo. Or just be super weird about the whole thing anyway. Sharak's not naming him right now just because, not when the only reason is a little kid being nervous about not having anywhere to go. If he's like this long enough to understand the situation and still wants her too, she'll consider it. Until then, the fallout is better avoided.]

[Tomorrow evening is going to be awkward... They're coming up on the hill leading to Aditi's temple now, thick curtains billowing in the breeze can be seen even from this distance. Sharak points it out for Gojyo.]

Big enough. There's a few bedrooms and they're big enough for people to double up if necessary, plus there's the living room. [God knows Kainé slept there often enough.] There's just you, me and one other woman at the moment.

I met Goku earlier. [Hmm... She's going to end up with an infestation like the school if she says yes but-] You can ask them if they'd like to stay here as well. Just make sure you tell me before they come, or they won't be able to get inside.

[Because as they start to walk up the hill leading to the temple, they're passing through Kouten's barrier.]

[ They wouldn't be able to get into a big open building with curtains for walls? Really? But Gojyo's not gonna say anything about that, nope. ]

[ And then he pauses, and frowns. Something just happened, something... okay, not unpleasant, but definitely strange. Like being sneezed on, maybe, only not wet and gross. ]

That was the barrier around the temple. No one can pass through without an invitation from myself or one of my shinki.

[ He's gonna grow up to be one of the most powerful youkai in the world! Detecting a barrier, however, will always remain just about the extent of his magical ability (and at least, this young, it didn't register as inappropriately as it might have were he in his adult body). ]

That's so cool! Did you make it do that? Can you teach me how to do that? I wanna learn how to make barriers! ...Hey, how does it know if you've got an invitation? Could you write one down and give it to somebody like a magic key, or do you have to be with 'em?

A verbal invitation will do. The intent to allow someone entry is what really matters. I can give you permission to come and go as you please right now, but you wouldn't be able to invite someone else on your own.

Making fixed, working barriers like this one is pretty complicated. There aren't many who can do it, and it takes a lot of time and work.
