[Children wouldn't know any better. It sounds like they're trying to take good care of her, at least. He plops a second handful -- the remainder of the spilled silverware -- in her unsorted pile, and heads to the sink to wash his hands before he packs up her dinners.]

I'm not the only teacher here, but it's the weekend. There aren't any classes today or tomorrow.

So I'm looking after things here by myself for the moment.

Alone? [Oona gives him a frown from over the pile of silverware. A man on his own?? That wouldn't do. It was different when they're all children like Ken and Chikusa (and she's already claimed them as her own so THERE), but an unattached male wasn't safe, right? She looks around a moment, but she doesn't see any signs of a woman around]

Mate...? [She questions slowly, still looking around. Maybe she missed something...]

[Well, "mate" is one way to put it.... Gonou blinks at her, caught entirely off guard, and then hides a laugh by glancing down.]

... Yes, I'm married. She isn't -- ah, that is. I'm sure she's at our house right now.

But without a mate or some other female to act as guardian, Gonou might still be in danger. She eyes him critically. He can cook, clearly, and he's got a nice face. She doesn't think he's in any immediate danger of being snatched away, but still...

She makes a thoughtful humming noise, and then nods firmly as if having reached a decision.] Boyfriend! Eh, mean... [She speaks slowly and deliberately] Will be my boyfriend. Until mate returns, can protect. [And Oona grins, chin lifted proudly.]

[She's definitely too young for marriage or for boyfriends, and Gonou's having a little trouble with the idea of a small girl who can't stand up without her legs hurting protecting him.

She's also too young for him to call her on that, though, since she obviously is well equipped with pride.

He makes a show of considering her offer, tapping a finger on his chin.]

Now, I already have a wife, so I can't be anyone else's boyfriend, but if you want to protect me until she comes back I'm sure she'd be grateful.

[And charmed, for that matter.]

[Oona purses her lips, looking skeptical] Not safe...

[But after a moment she sighs] Not like sharing? Understand. Would not either. [She points to him] Only one? Has no others? [As in, is Gonou her only mate??]

[No other... no other husbands? She must have come from a very strange country indeed. He laughs, surprised, and snaps the lid onto one of the packed dinners.]
