[Natsuru ponders the question for a moment, then turns her bright, hopeful smile up towards Mira again.]

[When Oona points in a direction, Natsuru figures it's as good a direction to try as any! So she nods with more confidence than she should and continues to lead that way.

Oona's comment along the way makes her giggle too.]

That sounds like you ate them up whole!

[Oona's really funny! And she's cute, too. Natsuru might be blushing again at the whole girlfriend thing, even if it is just a game and she's six or seven at the most. This just proves that she can get all blushy over pretty girls at any age.]

Eh? [Oona tilts her head in mild confusion] Yes, whole! [Duh!!] Catch many. Just bite!

[She mimes just biting into a fish whole and then grins.] Is that not how is done?

Eww!

[She exclaims her disgust, but Natsuru is still giggling. She may not quite understand all the reasons that would be gross to most people. She just thinks that's a funny way to eat tuna.]

Aren't they slimy? And they have bones! Croquette doesn't have bones.

[See? It's naturally superior!]

[mermaiding]

[Oona makes a face and huffs] No eat bones! Stupid! Just... chew! [She mimics chewing on a bone]

Teeth sharp! [She grins showing tat her own teeth are slightly pointed even in her human form] So, chew! Healthy.

[Well, Natsuru didn't think she ate the bones! That would be stupid! But chewing on the bones?

There's a look of curious wonder in her eyes when Oona shows off her teeth with that grin.]

Oh! It's good for your teeth?

[Hmmm...]

Should we get something for you to chew on too? There won't be any bones in the croquette.

Okay.

[She nods with much more certainty this time. Naoto's patience is soothing her frazzled nerves, and it's nice to have a grownup who isn't a complete stranger to rely on.]

Thank you, Naoto-neesan! You're really nice...

[Was Naoto prepared for a tiny girl clinging to her and calling her '-neesan'? Hopefully she was!]

[Naoto wasn't, no; she blinks at the girl in surprise momentarily. But then she can't help but smile warmly back after being referred to as "-neesan." She offers the child her hand as she stands up.]

You're very welcome, Natsuru-chan. I'm happy to help.

Now then, which direction do you remember coming from?

[Ah, well... she has to let Naoto stand up now. Now that she's looking all the way up at her again, Natsuru notices she sure is tall! That's to be expected of a cool grownup lady, isn't it?

At least she can take the offered hand, holding on perhaps a little too tightly. There's not much strength in that tiny hand, though, so maybe it's not a big deal.]

Ummm...

[She has to think about that, and glance around to get her bearings again. Finally, she points with her free hand, down the street towards a nearby music store.]

That way. I think.

[Naoto does feel the slight bit of tightness in Natsuru's grip on her hand. If anything, it touches her heart a little. This poor girl must have been so frightened wandering about on her own. Naoto continues to smile down at her, warm and sympathetic.]

Do you mind navigating us then, Natsuru-chan? I'll stay with you until you can find your way back.

[Natsuru blushes at the thought of being trusted to navigate the way, but nods. Naoto staying with her makes her feel much safer, and certainly less frightened of losing her way. As long as she holds on tightly to the older girl, she won't have to worry about being alone.]

Okay...

[She starts by giving Naoto a little tug in the direction she'd pointed, towards the music store. While passing by the posters of idols she'd been so swept up in, she looks up at Naoto again.]

[The small girl regards D2 curiously. He looks slightly familiar, but as she's never seen him at this age before, she doesn't think anything of it.]

You 'look like'...? Do you mean you were bigger before?

[She's met at least one other person that she knew as older than they look now, but none of them actually remembered.]

[ D2 isn’t entirely sure if he’s met this girl or not, but he has a feeling that he has. Just not like this. There are not that many children in the Far Shore usually.

He nods, because that’s exactly it. ]

Yeah, I’m actually, like, 30? But telling people that here seems useless, they won’t believe me.

[ They seem to think he’s playing at being a grown-up. ]

[Hearing someone so small claim that they're really 30 makes Natsuru chuckle. Sorry, D2, she can't help it!]

That's so old!!! You don't look old at all!

[Well, yeah, that's kind of what he's saying, Natsuru. Meanwhile, Natsuru's current babysitter is regarding the strange blond child with curiosity, and probably less disbelief in what he's saying. She seems to ponder it for a moment, then extends her free hand to him. She's willing to watch after another child, yes. Regardless of whether he's truly older than he appears.]

Eh? Uta-neesan? You're gonna look after both of us now?

[The woman turns to Natsuru and nods her agreement, holding on to D2's hand a little more firmly, almost maternally, if he's already taken her offer. Natsuru doesn't seem to think of Uta's silence as strange. She is a soulless shinki, after all. They behave oddly compared to everyone else.]

[ He pouts a little. ]

I know, that’s sort of the problem here.

[ But his eyes lights up when the woman (her name is Uta?) offers him her hand, and he doesn’t really hesitate in taking it. Because it really is a hassle to wander around alone right now. Too many people wants to bring him to a koban or asks for his parents’ number. ]

[Natsuru is just innocently happy to have more company now. Even if he says he's older, he still looks like another kid to her.]

Uta-neesan's taking us to a playground! It's got slides and swings and everything.

Right? [She looks up at Uta, beaming happily.] You promised we could go before it gets dark.

[Uta seems to agree, picking up the pace a little and gently tugging the two not-really-children to follow along.]

[Natsuru had done her best to find the other Hibiki, honest! But it really doesn't seem to be working out. Her new friend had decided this made perfect sense, though. Someone that incredible must be really super busy even if they did find the right temple. In the meantime, wasn't there something about a party? Maybe this isn't the right time, since it's just the two of them, but Natsuru is still kind of excited about this...]

So how do we trade friend tickets again? Can you show me?

[Even if it's pretend, there has to be a way!]

Sure. Here, take this.

[ Hibiki takes two strips of paper and carefully draws a line to divide the top and bottom of the "ticket". She slides her teacup out of the way on the crowded table (they have so many desserts. so many desserts) to give herself room to draw with all these pens and markers. ]

Write your name on both parts. Then decorate it with all the things you like!

Usually there are dresses, too.

[Natsuru takes the instruction very seriously at first, very carefully and neatly writing her name on both the top and bottom part of her paper.]

You mean idol dresses?!

[This is an idol thing, after all. That would make sense!

Once her name is done, Natsuru starts off the decoration with little doodles of some of her favorite desserts. It's the table's fault... she'll move on to cute animals soon enough. And maybe a doodle of a little princely person that may or may not be recognizable... and a cute witch or magical girl too. Both of those would be drawn in purple marker, of course.]

Mm! Dresses are an idol's life!

[ She heard that somewhere. Wouldn't it be cool if PriTickets could, like, talk, and you could hang out with them, they'd probably make the best friends because they are full of all the best things.

Hibiki has drawn a dress, too, but rather than specific pictures, she seems mostly to be doodling....flourishes. Stars and hearts and rather poorly-formed flowers. But she seems very happy with the result as it develops. And with Natsuru's, as she observes. ]

She's Natsumi-chan! Her name has 'Natsu' in it, just like mine!

[She's so proud of this. 'Natsumi-chan' even uses the same character to write her name!]

Ah... I don't really know her, though. She's a super famous new idol.

[Well, that sure sounds impressive, even if the foreignness of the name sounds a little unusual to her ears. Still, this whole place is pretty unusual, so she's doing her best to roll with it, and this girl seems like she knows what's what. Might as well get to know each other, right...?]

'Natsu'... just part of your name? What's the rest of it? [What better way to get to know each other than introductions!] Mine's Soleil!

Mm-hm. My name's Natsuru.

[And that's where she suddenly starts to seem a little self-conscious.]

I don't know if it's as pretty a name as Natsumi-chan, though. And yours is really pretty too...

[If there's some meaning here that's being lost by being totally unfamiliar with the naming conventions at play, well... Soleil's not really even taking it into account anyway, so she just smiles brightly.]

I think it's pretty! Natsuru... [She repeats it slowly, like she's trying to get the feel of it down, and smiles at the result.] It's nice to meet you!
