[ Eric flinches when he feels the hug, not expecting that gesture. Even still, feeling the hug makes him relax a little. He's still crying, because he can't just turn that off, but it was a little kess as he heard her words.

He had no memories, but it felt for some reason he hasn't had something like this in a long time. He hiccupped, still unsure but he really did want to believe this girl meant it. ]

I promise. [ She keeps him caught in the hug when he doesn't pull away. She's a little relieved he even seems to relax a little more. One hand rubs soothingly against his spine as she lets him cry. ]

It's okay. I'm not asking for anything in return. Think of it as a gift. That's something you give without ever expecting anything in return, right? You give it because it will make the other person happy.

[ He stays quiet for a little while, sniffiling and making some shaky breaths. As much as he also wanted to be wary and scared, he also really wanted to feel safe and hugged. The rubbing on his back only helped with that. ]

[ Nanako reaches to pull a handkerchief out of her dress pocket, holding it out to him with a gentle smile. ]

Here. And I'm glad you feel better. That makes me happy. Now, since you're feeling better, I can get you some more food or something more to drink or, if you like, you can just stay here for a while. My temple really is a place of shelter for anyone who needs it, and you're welcome to stay as long as you like. You'll be safe here, Eric. You have my word on that.

[ He takes it, though he tilts his head, wondering why he was given it but decides to rub it on his face anyways. That's what he was doing before so...

At the so many suggestions Eric's head swims. Making choices was hard, but he was saved by his stomach growling. He blushes a bit. ]

[ She just gives him a warm smile and pushes to her feet once more. ]

You just stay there and I'll get you some more food and drink. You can have as much as you like. Just be careful you don't have too much and make yourself sick, after. That's never very fun. But you can eat until your stomach stops growling at me, at least.

[ He blinks. Was there a time you could eat so much you would be sick? That sounded like a dream. But to have his stomach not demanding food would be wonderful. ]

[ She comes back with another pair of bento boxes for him, each with a different selection of food in them. ]

[ Eric's eyes widen as he stares at both of the bento boxes and he licks his lips. He almost goes to dig in before he pauses, looking up a bit shyly. ]
