Who: Yamazaki Ayumu, Cho Hakkai, and you!
When: late July 17th to July 19th
Where: Various spots on both the Near and Far Shores
What: Wardrobe problems, borderline practice in the park, and shopping.
Warnings: Possible mentions of violence, torture, and rape in the Hakkai thread if it comes up.
July 17th, night, the Far Shore (Open)
[The first few days of Ayumu's afterlife have been decidedly bizarre. How she'd gone from her present self to an ill-mannered child and later a cocky teenager is beyond her understanding but she's grateful when that final burst of energy comes, finally turning her back into herself even it did strand her on the Near Shore far away from her god's temple with nothing but a child's yukata and sandals to wear.
Ayumu's nothing if not resourceful, however, and the dilemma was solved easily enough with a little convenience store theft. And that's how Ayumu can be found strolling through the Far Shore back to her god's temple wearing a neon-orange glow in the dark rain poncho, a pink child's yukata tied around her waist in a makeshift skirt, and carrying a tiny pair of sandals in her hand. It's hard to tell for sure but she appears to be clutching a large wad of bloody paper towels in her right hand.
Regardless of her present attire, Ayumu makes eye contact with anyone she happens to pass by, offering them a cordial smile and cheerful greeting.]
Good evening! Nice night, isn't it?
July 18th, daytime, the Far Shore, the park (Open)
[Given Ayumu's current lack of wardrobe, her clothing options are pretty much limited to whatever she can find in her god's closet. His pants are a lost cause, being far too big to fit her small frame. However, the shirts are salvagable so she helps herself to one of those. He's taller than her, enough so that it hangs down low enough on her thighs to be somewhat decent enough to go outside in. But then again, Ayumu's definition of decent tends to be downright scandalous by modern standards, perhaps made worse by the fact all she's wearing at the moment is a shirt clearly recognizable as Hakkai's.
Currently, she's sitting on a bench, knees pressed together rather primly while she reads the information pamphlet given to her on her first day. Mentally, she's in a much better state to comprehend and absorb the information today so she's taking advantage of that with a little private practice on her borderlines. It's been a little rough going so when she finally gets it right, Ayumu jumps up from bench with a little cheer and fistpump at her victory.]
Yes! I did it!
[She's all smiles for the time being. Ayumu knows she still has a long way to go before she'll be able to consider herself a good shinki but it's a start. Dismissing it is much easier after which Ayumu celebrates by merrily scooping up a rather startled, floppy-eared puppy and holding it aloft.]
And you, my dear, are witness to my triumph.
[Ayumu drops a light kiss on its nose, apparently oblivious to any other witnesses to her antics.]
July 19th, morning, the Near Shore, shopping district (Closed to Hakkai)
[And at least, it's time for another victory to celebrate - clothing of her own! It'd taken patience and a careful strategy of wearing nothing but Hakkai's shirts for him to prioritize a shopping trip over work but it'd succeeded. Even without the bond between god and shinki, Ayumu's clearly in good spirits as she looks peers through the windows at the different clothing on display. Most of the styles look odd to her as they had when she'd been wandering the Near Shore as a child but clothes are clothes at this point and Ayumu will literally wear anything that she hasn't had to steal or improvise on her own.]
There's so many different styles, Hakkai-sama. I'm not sure what to pick. What do you think would look good on me?
[She turns to him for an answer, still barefoot and wearing another one of his shirts. Even though it's morning, it's still warm enough that she isn't cold.]

[Ayumu climbs onto the man's back, wrapping her arms and legs around him snugly but not so tight that he can't breathe. He's doing her a favor and she's grateful for it, the last thing she wants to do is hurt him.]
So that's what they're called? Those little paths next to the streets? I didn't know the name for them. I fear I don't know the name for many of the things in this place.
[She laughs a little. But at least, she knows the way to the temple from here. Ayumu has yet to memorize all the routes there but she has one down already. Not bad for such a confusing start here.]
Oh, and the temple's to the northwest from here.
no subject
[ While a very basic way of carrying, for how lean and willowy Shizuo was, he still straightened up to his full height as if there was little more than a plush toy on his back. After taking a moment to figure out which way was Northwest, the blond starts walking there with ease. He's not exactly rushing to get there though, in case it's too much for the woman. ]
That's pretty common here. A lot of the people that were brought here, both gods and shinki, came from times and places where sidewalks, phones, and a lot of the normal things here are unheard of. I'm actually the only one in my temple that's used to it.
no subject
[Ayumu's small and doesn't weigh much but she's still a little surprised at how easily he's carrying her. She tightens her grip a little bit more just as a precaution. What he says about others being equally unfamiliar with things in this place is comforting, too. Talking to others without purpose doesn't come easily to her so it'd good to know that there's that common ground, too.]
Are you a god then?
no subject
[ Shizuo was also one of the types of people where he only really needed the basic modern conveniences. A modern enough kitchen was the most important thing to him. Because refrigerators are really nice when you drink a lot of milk. ]
Nah, I'm a shinki like you. I guess I shouldn't say it's my temple when that's the case, but it's where I live and stay.
no subject
[Despite her words, that shinki are guests in the homes of their gods does make a certain kind of sense. But it implies that the life of a shinki is a transient one and Ayumu's not sure she likes that. With this being the only world she knows anymore, she wants a place where she can put down roots.
But as disturbing of a thought that is, it's a reality Ayumu needs to face and keep in mind moving forward, she thinks.]
no subject
[ Actually, there's been a few times when people asked if he was a god. Really, Shizuo didn't think he should be one, or deserved that kind of rank. Being a shinki was where he belonged, really. ]
Actually, it's kinda weird. I don't think I ever heard people refer to the temples they're at as their homes before. Then again, it'd suck if you called it that and the god disappeared.
no subject
[Asking questions comes to her naturally, especially with the void in her mind created by her lost memories. It's natural to be curious about a place she'll be living in, perhaps for the rest of eternity if she doesn't fall in battle. Ayumu doesn't really know how death works here or if it's possible for the dead to die again but she has a strong feeling that's it's best to expect the unexpected as much as one can.]
And why would you feel bad? It's not your fault if other people have misconceptions about which you are.
no subject
[ So there was both disappearances and shuffling. It seems that he's going along with the questions easily enough, though. None of them have been particularly abrasive or anything, and it passed the time as he was walking the woman home.
But why would he feel bad? It elicits a shrug that's not hampered by the fact that he was carrying someone. ]
It just happens enough where I wonder if I'm doing something to cause that.
no subject
[Of course, part of that comes from subconscious adherence to gender hierarchy. Ayumu was a woman and in life she'd been a servant, that mentality of support and subservience is difficult to shake.]
I think Hakkai-sama said something along those lines, come to think of it... Does it happen much? Switching roles?
[Suddenly, she remembers the girl from the training session - Kairi. Somehow she'd known her name. Ayumu hadn't wanted to make too much of it then but now she can't help but wonder a little.]
This might sound like a strange connection but have you met me before today?
[Now she's curious.]
no subject
[ No one had ever said that before. Then again, other people have seen how relaxed and out of control he could be, which sort of alters the perception. Especially when he gets their name wrong the next time they've met.
Yet, with the switching roles question, all he could do was shrug again. Having not been around long, Hakkai was the only case he'd heard about where a shinki became a god. ]
Ah... Sorry. I don't think so? Though, while I haven't been here for very long, I wouldn't be able to remember a lot of the people I've met. I try, but it kinda slips away if I only see a person once before.
no subject
[It's not a pressing matter Ayumu feels the need to investigate anyway. She goes quiet a moment, looking around closely at her surroundings. The temple's not terribly far now, she thinks.]
Turn right up ahead, then it's a straight shot to the temple.
[And then it occurs to her that she and this young man haven't exchanged names yet.]
My name's Ayumu by the way. What's yours?
no subject
[ Hopefully the temple didn't come with a literal mountain of stairs- which is something he learned could be a thing thanks to his own god's temple. ]
Ah, mine is Shizuo. I guess I got caught up with your injury that I forgot- sorry. It would be weird to have some stranger carry you all the way home, huh?
[ It's more accurate to say that he was distracted by a series of things, but at least it was out of good intentions. ]
no subject
[Ayumu smiles though he can't see it. Odd as it might be chatting with someone carrying her like this, it has been an enjoyable, informative conversation. And well, piggyback rides are kind of fun.]
You can just put me down outside. Unless you'd like to come in for some tea. It's the least I can do to thank you.
[Well, after she cleans and bandages her hand first but that won't take long. It's not that deep of a cut.]
no subject
[ Ayumu was probably right about that- It was considered weird to just carry strangers around. It just seemed like the kind of thing to offer after seeing her hurt and barefoot. ]
Thanks, but I'm not really a tea drinker. Not that I don't like it, but apparently I put too much milk and sugar in it.
[ He's had bubble tea, though. That's actually a favorite, though a completely different subject from right now. ]
I'll probably just let you get cleaned up and off to rest once you're inside.
no subject
[Ayumu's not particularly used to people being kind to her for its own sake. She can't help but feel she should offer something in exchange, even if the other party never intended anything of the sort.]
Well, if there's anything I can do for you, let me know, 'kay? I'll try to help you if I can.
[It's very difficult for her to let niceness go unrewarded.]
no subject
She should get the chance to get used to him. ]
I'll keep it in mind, thanks. Ah, is it that small building up ahead?
[ As someone who's leisurely strolled around both near and far shores, while not always successful, it's an unusual addition to the kinds of temples that were around. ]
no subject
[It might be more modest than the other temples she's seen and need a little fixing up here and there but Ayumu likes the soothing atmosphere it has. She hasn't been home since her first day though so she hasn't really had a chance to settle in yet.]
And you're welcome, Shizuo-san. It'd be a pleasure to assist you sometime.
no subject
Once at the front door, the blond takes a knee so that Ayumu could easily get off of his back and, hopefully, not hurt her feet any more than they already do. ]
Until then, try to take care of your injuries. Make sure they're cleaned properly. Ah, and good luck with Hakkai.
no subject
I will. And thank you, Shizuo-san. I guess I'll be seeing you around then. I hope!
[She laughs a little but she's very grateful for the assistance and he seems like a pleasant enough man. It'd be nice to make friends in this place outside of her god, especially if there's a risk that he might suddenly disappear on her one day.]
