June Intro/Training Log

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: July 26
Where: Bishamon's temple, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

The product of many meetings and recommendations, at last it has taken shape. On this day, in anticipation of the new arrivals who appear in a recognized pattern, Heaven has partnered with the new gods and shinki to organize a very helpful informational reception.

The shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided kindly towards Bishamon's temple. And in that vast complex they are brought to a traditional-style dojo.

Here the newly arrived gods are gathered, so finding their partner is more simple. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the aspects of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki, or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

Divine Bureaucracy

Wasn't it the newly revamped Shinki Agency's job to assign shinki this time... They thought it was the original team of Amaterasu's shinki's job this one last time before Shinki Agency took over the responsibility. Needless to say, when the shinki wake up at the Meeting Hall, there's a lot of shouting. Eventually, one of the Shinki Agency representatives herds the new shinki together and instructs them to please all go to Bishamonten's temple for the time being and they will send a runner with the god-shinki assignments as soon as they can.

New gods and old gods alike will not be notified that there is a mix-up unless they come to Bishamon's temple for Training, until the Shinki Agency can figure out what happened.

Important addendum: For this round, gods still have a vision of how their shinki died, however they can't make out any details, particularly about who they saw die.
Once a shinki of the Agency gives the god the name of their shinki, the god is then able to find them by name. Once they give their shinki a vessel name the god will have the full vision of how their shinki died.

This addition comes in response to some questions and need for clarification. Apologies and thank you for your input.

God Training

Bishamon herself, as well as Amaterasu's ever-present shinki and any volunteering gods, will be the foremost source of information regarding being a god and what is expected of them, such as prayers. It is encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Newly arrived gods are still expected to communicate to their shinki the information* they themselves get oriented with when they arrive.

Shinki Training

Various volunteers are stationed around the building, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. There are many shinki, including Bishamon's and Amaterasu's, who will be more than happy to train in using the borderline and some of the basics of what is expected of a shinki. It is encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Bishamon's lead shinki Kazuma offers a lecture to new arrivals that will thoroughly cover some essential points about teamwork with both shinki and other gods.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern. There are volunteers here as well, willing to assist in basic training. (Or even more advanced sparring, depending on the volunteer.) Essential for gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes.
Also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

Rest and Refreshments

There is a garden off the dojo that is free to be used for rest and conversation.
Should anyone wander outside the designated area, some shinki of Bishamon's will attach themselves to them and not leave them be until they return to the dojo.

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're just taking a quick break to cool down. Even hand towels are provided by Bishamon's helpful shinki. The Heavens wants everyone to stay in good condition!

In Summary:
  • New characters are welcome to ask old characters if this mix-up is common (spoilers: it's not)
  • New Shinki: Get all the information you can handle from the pamphlets provided (links above and see FAQ)
  • New Gods: take what information you can from Amaterasu's shinki (see FAQ) while waiting to find out if you've been assigned a shinki
  • Veteran gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Don't get dehydrated
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

[ Even if he was, Yata would probably be ready for him. There's something in his stance that hints that he's accustomed to attacks coming out of nowhere without any warning. Probably comes from hanging out with that damn monkey and his dagger fetish. ]

Huh. I've been wondering about that. I'm still figuring out what I can do, and what I can fight with, but it seemed so random, I wasn't sure what that meant.
revolutionfalcon: (alert attack)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-02 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[While Shun is rather like that as well, he's still openly wary enough not to let up on obvious preparedness for attack until the chance of it has actually passed. Giving too much detail to Yata here could be getting into risky territory, though, so Shun keeps it distant.]

Now you know. Probably not a good idea to keep wondering about it too hard. Any other skills should come back to you naturally anyway.

[ Yata snorts and just shrugs it off. Then again, thinking about things too deeply isn't typically a problem he has. Luckily, in this case. ]

Oh yeah, those seem to be coming back no problem. It's the new ones I can't seem to get the hang of.

If you mean things like borderlines, you're not alone in having trouble with those. [There's a note of rather knowing exasperation in Shun's tone at that. Fubuki might be Shun's exemplar and effective at working with him to rend ayakashi without trouble, but he's absolute garbage at borderlines and they both know it.]
thevanguard: confused (086)

[personal profile] thevanguard 2017-07-04 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Yata blinks at that, because most of the other people he's talked to have managed to get it down no problem. ]

You mean I'm not the only one who can't do it?
revolutionfalcon: (exasperated)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-04 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
There's probably more than I know about, but my exemplar is complete garbage at them. Even if he can draw one, I don't think he can hold them for more than one or two light hits.

[Yep, that note of exasperation is a little stronger now that Shun's offering details.]
thevanguard: Serious (024)

[personal profile] thevanguard 2017-07-06 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
At least he can draw one. Every time I try, I just get fire instead. Which, I mean, ayakashi don't seem very fond of that either, but it's not really the same.
revolutionfalcon: (the hell do you want)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-06 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Another one. [Shun murmurs that to himself, in a tone somewhere close to exasperation. If he had a hundred yen for every fire wielder he's met here...] It's just fire, without the borderline? I would've expected it to be both if there was another power manifesting through the same motions.
thevanguard: Confused (037)

[personal profile] thevanguard 2017-07-09 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ Yata blinks at that question. ]

Uhh.... I don't know? You mean my Borderline could be under the fire? [ That... hadn't occurred to him. ] The fire comes easy now, especially since I've been practicing, but I wasn't sure how to summon whatever this Borderline is made of instead, even if I do the motions just like I was shown. It's always fire instead. At least, I think it was?
revolutionfalcon: (calm command)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-09 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Basically. I doubt you're completely incapable of making borderlines. [If Fubuki isn't completely incapable of making boderlines, apparently nobody can be, judging by the surety of Shun's tone.] It might be worth asking one of the older shinki about it, or another fire user. There's a few of them here, and they're probably not all having the same problem.

[Granted, several of them are gods, but not all of them.]

[personal profile] thevanguard 2017-07-10 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've asked Izumo a few times, but he said he didn't have this problem. [ Which has him just heaving a put-upon sigh and hunching his shoulders. ] The person that seems to know the most about what I can do is a god, though. For all the good that does me. He's allergic to using words.
revolutionfalcon: (if looks could kill)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-10 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[As soon as Yata says that last thing, a look of complete and faintly exasperated understanding crosses Shun's face.] If it's that guy's god, I know what you mean. I doubt he'd give a straight answer if his life depended on it. But even if Kusanagi doesn't have the same problem, there should be some way he can help if he has the same kind of powers.

[His main current takeaway from this is to note Yata down as another possibility for one of Mikoto's lot. Eric seems to be one, from what he said the other day.]
thevanguard: Serious (022)

[personal profile] thevanguard 2017-07-10 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he does. We all have other things in common, too. [ Yata's been paying attention, after all. He might be a little slow on the uptake sometimes, but this was important. ] I'll keep trying. I'd have to get it eventually, right?
revolutionfalcon: (calm command)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-11 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Eventually. Finding help might save you some trouble, but it's probably going to take extended work either way. At least you seem prepared for that. [Confidence without complacency is something Shun can respect. One thing he's noticed about this place is that it tends to have an unusually high margin of people like that.]
thevanguard: serious attitude (115)

[personal profile] thevanguard 2017-07-11 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't care about that part. Practicing is the easy part. [ Of which he did potentially way too much anyway. ] I just wish there was an easier way to figure out what I was doing wrong.

[ He lifts a hand a waves it dismissively, though. ] Thanks for the sparring, though. Do you come to practice at these things often?

[ And if so, can he practic against you more next time? ]
revolutionfalcon: (placid)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-12 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You've got two powers you'd know almost nothing about interacting. In a situation like that, looking for an "easier way" might as well be a pipe dream.

[It's the hard way, or it's not doing it at all. If others with similar power combinations aren't having this problem, then it's even less likely there'd be an easy solution.

Since it seems Yata's fine to end here, Shun finally relaxes his stance a little to something still wary, but more normal.]
Most of them. Helps me keep an eye on things. And when I was one of the people who suggested they make these regular, it'd be a lot of empty words if I didn't come to help people train.
thevanguard: serious attitude (161)

[personal profile] thevanguard 2017-07-14 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You really need to work on your pep talk skills.

[ Still, Yata is smirking as he crosses his arms over his chest. ]

And yeah, that's what I figured. It sucks. If this place was gonna take all our memories, the least they coulda done was left us an instruction manual.

Huh. That was you? Well, thanks for that, I guess.
revolutionfalcon: (derisive)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-15 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't trying to give you one. [Shun doesn't seem to care much whether the remark is serious or not (or about the remark at all, really). Regardless, he does give a faint hum of agreement at the mention of the memory loss.]

Most people seem to figure it out eventually, but it'd save a lot of trouble.

[There's a somewhat dismissive sound at the word of thanks.] I doubt it was only me, since the Heavens don't tend to listen to just one person, but when Suijin asked what I thought might help new gods and old gods get along better, I suggested regular training so they actually looked like they knew what to do with us.
