1. Friday nights at Friday's
Kinyobi is a small, dark bar, located on a street that was never nice, not even when the plant across town was open. This is an industrial area, and this used to be a blue-collar, industrial bar -- the floors are permanently sticky, there's dents and gouges and names carved in every wooden surface, the restroom is a horror movie, and the booze is either watered down or rotgut, depending on the day of the week and the mood of the bartender.

Still. It's home.



2. Shinki Sundays
Gojyo looks up when the bell on the door chimes, and smiles broadly at the newcomer. "Hey, come on in!" he calls. "You're shinki, right? Lemme see your mark."

"I didn't know shinki could only be good at it. I'd imagine every shinki have different levels of skill at it." As long as a shinki could get out even a flicker, that should be enough. But D2 spends a lot of time practicing, so he's got it down good.

"What do you have in terms of whiskey?"

When Gojyo first tried summoning a borderline, nothing happened. Now, he summons something else entirely, but he's not spreading that bit of information around. Hidden weapons aren't nearly as effective if everyone knows you've got one, right?

"The usual." The skimpy end of usual, that is. "Yamazaki, Suntory..." Or bottles that say 'Yamazaki' and 'Suntory', with something very like whiskey inside. "I think there's some of that American one left, too."

That’s a definite right. That’s why they’re hidden weapons.

But ‘the usual’ to him isn’t Japanese brands, he realizes once Gojyo says it. They’re more American, or European. “Then I’ll ask for some of that American stuff.”

"American stuff it is!" Really, that's the best choice. The bottle of Jack is leftover from when Gojyo bought it to pay Sharak back for... well, for something personal and embarrassing, and there's about a third of the bottle remaining.

There's no grace to the movement when he pours a generous shot into the short glass -- he's not a fancy bartender, that's for sure. He basically just dumps the shot in there... but it is a generous shot, there's no splashback, the glass is clean...

"Ice?"

“Thanks.” The American stuff is great, but it has been a lot of Japanese stuff lately. But when they offer free alcohol at those festivals and whatnot, who was he to say no. Either way, getting back to something more familiar is a nice thing to do.

Well, you don’t need to be a fancy bartender to be a good bartender. “Mm, a little?”
