Summary: Mortals may be partying, but there's lots of work for the denizens of the Far Shore to do.

It's the final day of Obon and spirits are being sent back to their homes -- both the ancestral spirits that have been welcomed home for the duration of the festival and the mischievous spirits that have been plaguing the Heavens. But some of them might not go easy, so Amaterasu has requested that gods and shinki old and new alike help ensure the spirits' peaceful departure.

Mukae-bi

Fires have been lit on hillsides and near cemeteries to lead the spirits back to their resting places and to protect them on their way, but angry ghosts and ayakashi are trying to quench the fires so they can attack weaker spirits. Keep the firewood stocked and the fires blazing high while you fight off the attacks.

Heavenly Exorcisms

Guarding the Gates

Hidden pathways into the underworld in caves throughout Japan are open from sunset to moonset on this night to allow the spirits who have temporarily left to return. Gods and shinki must watch over these pathways and ensure that no dangerous ayakashi take the opportunity to escape from the underworld before the moon sets.

After-party

After the moon sets, the denizens of the Heavens can finally kick back. Everyone is invited to a private hot spring on the Far Shore, where a midnight banquet spread is waiting in thanks for their hard work. Wash off any blight in the hot springs and enjoy the banquet before heading back home for a good night's sleep.

[ He skids to a stop outside Roy's temple and glances back over his shoulder at him. ]

[Fushimi nods, finally moving from being draped over Misaki's shoulder.]

[ He carefully helps him back to his feet, still worried about him. ]

No problem. But are you sure we shouldn't have gone to tell that guy?

Would it have done any good? Think about it: how many fucks does that man give about anything?

[ Yata flinches a little at that, because that's still a sore spot for him, his shoulders slumping a little. ]

After a moment, Fushimi scoffs and elbows Misaki in the side ever so lightly.]

[ Yata gives a quiet scoff in return and elbows him back. ]

Jerk. And at this point, I'd almost be happy to settle for a crappy one.

[ Except then he remembers Schuldig and he blanches a little, shoving his hands deeper in his pockets. ]

Almost. But I'm not that desperate yet.

And if you ever got that desperate, I'd talk Roy into naming you.

[Because no friend of his is getting a shitty god.]

[ He shoots Saru a crooked grin at that, grateful for the offer even if he didn't intend to take him up on it. ]

It's fine, I'm sure the heavens will get it sorted eventually, right? If not I can go become one of those Nora's or something, yeah? I'll be like a... I dunno, shinki mercenary or something.

Tch, the heavens can't get their own asses sorted. If you don't have a decent god in three months, I'll talk to Roy.

[ He kicks at the dirt under his feet. ]
