August Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: August 15
Where: Bishamon's temple, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

In anticipation of the latest round of new arrivals, Heaven has partnered with the new gods and shinki to organize a very helpful informational reception.

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided kindly towards Bishamon's temple. In that vast complex they are brought to a traditional-style dojo. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training

Unfortunately, Bishamon is away on business today, but her shinki as well as Amaterasu's ever-present shinki and any volunteering gods will offer information regarding being a god and what is expected of them, such as prayers. It is encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Newly arrived gods are still expected to communicate to their shinki the information* they themselves receive as orientation when they arrive.

Shinki Training

Various volunteers are stationed around the building, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. There are many shinki, including Bishamon's and Amaterasu's, who will be more than happy to train in using the borderline as well as offering a lecture on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. It is encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern. There are volunteers here as well, willing to assist in basic training. (Or even more advanced sparring, depending on the volunteer.) This is vital for gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes.
It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

Rest and Refreshments

There is a garden off the dojo that is free to be used for rest and conversation.
Should anyone wander outside the designated area, some shinki of Bishamon's will attach themselves to them and not leave them be until they return to the dojo.

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're just taking a quick break to cool down. Even hand towels are provided by Bishamon's helpful shinki. The Heavens wants everyone to stay in good condition!

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Don't get dehydrated
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

[Maria is just passing by when the boy asks that question, and he's polite enough about it that she smiles as she turns to answer, though she shakes her head.]

I'm afraid not. Which god do they represent? I might be able to help you look for them, at least.

[Her response is polite in kind with Heine's own, and she does seem genuinely disappointed she can't immediately help him.]

Idaten, I believe... at least that's what Amaterasu's shinki had told me.

[ He's still trying to wrap his bacon around this shinki business, really. It's a lot to take in, especially the being dead bit. ]

I do beg pardon for taking up more of your time, miss, but would it be right to assume that you aren't among those who had just arrived?

Hm...no, I haven't seen that name on the BBS, either. They must be either new or quiet. [It's not impossible that someone would remain silent on that front for quite some time, but there's a few people here who seem ready to try befriending everyone.

At Heine's question, she nods.]
I've been here for a few months now. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

[ That bit about being new or quiet totally makes sense. After all, his new god could have arrived at the same time for all he knew.

But there's something that does bother him about that sentence. ]

As much as I'd hate to come across as ignorant... what exactly... is a BBS?

[Ah, someone else from a bygone era. Maria offers a reassuring smile, waving a hand as if to dismiss the concern.]

Don't worry, plenty of people here come from times where that kind of technology didn't exist. It's sort of like a public messageboard where you can talk to others, except it's on the internet instead of a physical location. They should have given you a phone when you arrived - you can access it from that.

[Or hopefully they did, because otherwise she might be stuck trying to explain those as well.]

[ .....huh. The bit about a messageboard and the phone (was that a phone?) he can understand through context. 'Internet' is something he has to ask about. But there's something else that catches his attention. ]

I take it this world and whatever had brought us here doesn't discriminate between time periods.

[ But to answer her question, he's just gonna fish for the phone he stashed in his coat pocket. ]

They did give me this device. Is this the phone you speak of?

No. You're far from the first person I've met who's had this problem - I've even met at least one whose world didn't widely have running water.

[That probably takes the cake for the most time-displaced person she's seen so far. Then again, some might be getting under the radar with it if they figure things out fast enough.

When he pulls out his phone, Maria nods a little.]
That's it. You can also use it to contact people by text, voice or video - there should be a list of contacts already in there.

[ Right well... at least running water isn't an alien concept to him at least. But he is peering at the phone a moment. There's plenty of time to fiddle with it later, he considers. But that's nothing short of fascinating to him. ]

So this... phone... functions the same as a regular telephone. But with added features, correct?

[ Will wonders never cease...? ]

[He seems to be catching on quickly, and Maria nods with a satisfied smile. It's always easier when people can start puzzling things out without too much help.]

That's right. As well as all those contact options, you can do things like take photos with it, or access the internet, as I said before. It might take some getting used to if you're used to old-fashioned phones, but it's worth the trouble.
