August Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: August 15
Where: Bishamon's temple, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

In anticipation of the latest round of new arrivals, Heaven has partnered with the new gods and shinki to organize a very helpful informational reception.

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided kindly towards Bishamon's temple. In that vast complex they are brought to a traditional-style dojo. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training

Unfortunately, Bishamon is away on business today, but her shinki as well as Amaterasu's ever-present shinki and any volunteering gods will offer information regarding being a god and what is expected of them, such as prayers. It is encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Newly arrived gods are still expected to communicate to their shinki the information* they themselves receive as orientation when they arrive.

Shinki Training

Various volunteers are stationed around the building, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. There are many shinki, including Bishamon's and Amaterasu's, who will be more than happy to train in using the borderline as well as offering a lecture on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. It is encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern. There are volunteers here as well, willing to assist in basic training. (Or even more advanced sparring, depending on the volunteer.) This is vital for gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes.
It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

Rest and Refreshments

There is a garden off the dojo that is free to be used for rest and conversation.
Should anyone wander outside the designated area, some shinki of Bishamon's will attach themselves to them and not leave them be until they return to the dojo.

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're just taking a quick break to cool down. Even hand towels are provided by Bishamon's helpful shinki. The Heavens wants everyone to stay in good condition!

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Don't get dehydrated
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

[Slowly, he starts to lower the book to look at her properly. It's true that, most of the time, he uses such gatherings as an excuse to catch up on how to cast certain kinds of spells. At the same time.... Rarely do the inhabitants of the Far Shore gather together like this in group.]

[Call him paranoid... But he likes keeping tabs on what everyone else can do.]

When you teleport.... You're always pushing off. It's not necessary for a god...

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-08-22 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
["Pushing off" still isn't specific enough for her, so she teleports a few feet away to see if she can spot what he's talking about. When she teleports back, she seems to have gotten the gist of it, since she arrives standing still rather than stepping out of it.]

You're pretty observant. [There is a mild yet possibly insulting amount of surprise in her voice.]

Thanks. [She tilts her head.] Are you training from that book?
kokuyoyo: (I don't do stupid things anymore.)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-08-25 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[If he was the one to take more pride in more of his abilities, Chikusa would absolutely be insulted. However, he knows he's easy to miss, easy to pass over. Why be insulted when that's the default? So he glances back down at his book.]

Yes. Or.... Not quite training. Deciphering...

The library holds many spellbooks, but some of them are... difficult. I don't think I'm at a level to understand them completely yet.

[But that isn't stopping him from trying.]

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-08-26 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's not necessarily something that he needs to be at a communal training field for, but maybe he needs victims volunteers for it. In any case, she starts walking over.]

Are they in another language?
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-08-28 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
It might as well be.

[Once she's close enough, he holds the book out to her silently. Advanced magic for shinki is fairly arcane, and, while it's not a foreign language... It's foreign in the way advanced arithmetic is from someone who only knows basic math.]

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-08-28 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her spells are all in Makai language. As she takes the book and leafs through it, it's clear that this book is not written in Makai language.]

[...Though, it'd be strange if it were.]

There's no shinki-specific spell language? [She hasn't heard anything about it so far, but so much of her shinki information comes from Chikusa anyway.]

[She hands the book back.] Which part are you having trouble with?
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-08-31 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No.... That's not how they work. [Accepting the book, he settles it on his lap.] A shinki spell requires the name of the target, a sense of superiority... and the specific motions.

There's no language to it.

But this one... [Sighing, he looks down at it.] It's not written like other spells...

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-09-02 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[If the problem is how it's written, then she can't even offer to help. Somewhat of a shame, since she does want to observe a shinki spell, a little.]

I couldn't discern it, either. [Not least because most spells tend to be taught, rather than learned from books, in her personal experience. One of her...sworn friends isn't a teacher for nothing.]

[Specific motions sounds familiar, though. If the sense of superiority takes the place of prayer, then...] The name? Shinki name? [She'd learned earlier that shinki spells are used against other shinki; it shouldn't be a surprise, and yet.] ...What about if you're binding a person? From the Near Shore?
kokuyoyo: (Please don't place wagers on my)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-09-02 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
If it's a regular human person, then you just need their true and full name.

[Has he experimented with this? Well.... Of course. Don't go halfway, after all. For a moment, he wonders if he should mention that it doesn't work with gods...]

[....Nah. Best to leave that sense of paranoia.]

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-09-03 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes sense... [For as much as she knows about name-based spells, anyway. (I.e. not much.) Whether or not it works with gods flies right over her head.]

What about the gesture? Is it the same one used to make the borderline? [If it isn't, she might have an indicator of what spell a shinki is using. Who knows if it'll help, though.]
kokuyoyo: (I don't do stupid things anymore.)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-09-05 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
No. It depends on the spells....

[Which is why this one is so annoying. There's no gesture, as far as Chikusa can puzzle out.... although maybe he's just reading it wrong. He's not discounting that.]

....It won't work for gods but you can still look up the basic books if you want.... They're in the library.

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-09-05 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I will. [Not that she expects to combat shinki, but knowing what your allies can do is pretty important, too. He'd spotted her teleport error despite not being a god, too, after all.]

You noticed how I was teleporting...what are the kinds of things you notice when you look out at the training field? [She turns to look at the field at large.]
kokuyoyo: (I don't do stupid things anymore.)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-09-09 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Glancing back down into his book, he draws his knees up and apparently seems to retreat behind it.]

Who learn borderlines quickly. Whose borderlines come out strongest. Who has combat skills. And who have powers beyond those as a god or shinki...

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-09-10 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[She glances at him, puzzled by his reaction. Why did he retreat? Boredom with the topic? Or...]

Did I say something untoward?
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-09-10 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm? [His gaze flicks back to her.] Oh... No.... Not really.

[Very explanatory, he knows.]

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-09-11 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[She isn't the most savvy person when it comes to social interactions, but she thinks she detects discomfort... And that's dangerous so long as she doesn't know what's causing it, so—]

Let's leave it there...

[She pauses for a second.] You found that book at the library?
kokuyoyo: (Woke up with a squirrel in my bed.)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-09-13 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. A lot of spellbooks can be found there....

But you'll have to search a lot. It's.... [His mouth twitches a little.] A mess.

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-09-13 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods at the book in his hand.] Did you stumble your way into that one, or did you have to search?

[It might explain his trouble with reading it, if the books aren't ordered. Not that she thinks spells are tiered like that, necessarily, but everyone has to start with basics.]
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-09-15 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Search. [A pause.] While I was organizing the library anyway...

...The creatures which maintained it are dead now.

[That feels relevant to mention.]

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-09-18 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Were they human? [...The fact that that's the first question she asks probably doesn't reflect well on her, but a whole slew of knowledge relating to her profession is guardkept by non-human entities. So there's that.]

[And for some reason, she can't see him volunteering to organize the library, but, considering how knowledgable he's been right from the start, maybe it shouldn't be so surprising. Given what he'd told her he sees a few minutes ago, though, her impression of him had already changed...]

Do you normally go to the library for these kinds of things...?
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-09-19 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Goblins, apparently. [So she's right on that one.]

[At her question, his head bobs slightly.]

It has a lot of information in it... but the goblins didn't organize it at all... So it's been troublesome... It's better that they're dead, honestly...

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-09-19 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a pretty dangerous thing to say.

[Rekka's primary concern is for humans, but being glad that other beings are dead doesn't sit quite right with her, either.]

[But is it her imagination, or has he been acting oddly since she asked what he observes? She'd thought getting off the topic would help, but—]

Your god was...Hestia, you said? [...Maybe she should call them over.]
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-09-19 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Pausing, he looks up at her.]

...Really? I guess....

[Not that he cares. Only a very select and small group of people have Chikusa's concern on if they're alive or not, and the goblins have always had his annoyance more than anything.]

[Still, at her question, he makes a small noise of acknowledgment and looks down at his book again.]

Yeah...

[personal profile] dragonflood 2017-09-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Really.

[Seriously. It's not like he's a fellow Makai Priest or anything, so theoretically she doesn't need to be on the watch for fallen Priests, but the mentality is so deep-seated that she can't not react. Not to mention it reminds her of the one thing she's most uncomfortable with when it comes to shinki, that being the negativity that can turn them into monsters.]

[But after talking to Butch, she just reminds herself that things are different here. Trust...trust is a thing.]

...Are you feeling alright? [Which is a question that is kind of belated, but she isn't that good at these kinds of things.]
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-09-21 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[That has him pause, and he blinks, looking down at himself. He doesn't think he's particularly dirty, definitely not injured...]

...Yes?
