Who: Tsuzuki Asato and Hitsugaya Toshiro
What: Tsuzuki owes Hitsugaya dinner for helping him figure out some of his supernatural abilities. It's definitely not a date.
When: August 16th, evening
Warnings: Alcohol use (Tsuzuki's drinking, anyway.) Otherwise none anticipated!
[For shinki, there are real advantages to conveyor belt sushi. Tsuzuki didn't have to worry about whether anyone would remember their orders, for example. Or even remember whether they were there -- although, okay, he had noticed that he had to wave down waiters for tea or sake refills. That was hardly any trouble compared to ordering at a more traditional place, though.
Plus it was casual, and since Hitsugaya'd already teased him about whether Tsuzuki was trying to ask him out, casual was good. And easier on his still-limited funds. Maybe, eventually, business would pick up enough at Gojyo's bar that he'd have more cash to throw around on nights out.
A guy could dream.
He's hanging out at the restaurant door, loud purple-and-gold flowered print Hawaiian shirt making him easy to pick out of the dinner rush, cheerful grin plastered on his face as he looks for Hitsugaya's distinctive white hair. Is that him over there?]
Hey! Hitsugaya-san!

Hey! Hitsugaya-san!
no subject
[He finishes his plate as Tsuzuki looks at the dessert.
At the suggestion, he looks a bit confused.]
Crepes?
no subject
[He's trying, okay. He's been reading a lot of Wikipedia articles on other pantheons. It's just a lot of information to absorb.]
Sure, crepes! You must've had them before.
no subject
[If he remembers correctly.]
...I don't remember if I have. [He's been introduced to a lot of things, but he's sure that crepes isn't on the list. Matsumoto has always been more interested in other foods and Toushirou has never been a fan of sweets, anyway.]
no subject
[That's what Hitsugaya said, isn't it? Tsuzuki chuckles, scooting to the side out of the booth enough to wave down the nearest waitress.]
Hey! Hey, I think we're ready to pay! Unless you want something else, Hitsugaya? And I've definitely got to show you crepes. They've got some with fresh fruit and all kinds of things. I think you'd like it.
no subject
Nah, he'd rather not.
Remembering the small lecture from earlier, he doesn't try to catch the waitress's attention, allowing Tsuzuki to do so.]
As long as it isn't too sweet.
no subject
Tsuzuki hands over a few bills as she counts their plates, and takes his change as she counts that out in turn, before turning a cheerful grin back in Hitsugaya's direction.]
Some of them are, but you can pick your flavor!
[So, maybe not something with too much whipped cream and chocolate sauce for Hitsugaya, then.]
no subject
Sure, Tsuzuki was the one to ask him to dinner. He's not used to this sort of thing.]
Then that should be fine.
[A good way to earn a soft spot for the captain? Give him watermelon.]
no subject
At least, when he has money. Which he does at the moment. It helps that shinki don't actually need to pay for room and board.]
Great.
[Watermelon crepes might be tough to find, but who knows? It's summer, after all!]
C'mon! [He scoots out of the booth and offers Hitsugaya a hand up, grinning cheerfully.]
no subject
And he'll just slide out of the booth with the shinki's help.]
no subject
Right! So I spotted a crepe stand out in the park back that way.
[It'd been selling fresh fruit by itself too, so if crepe-and-sauce additions make it too sweet, maybe he'll at least find something he likes. And it's not much of a walk, thought a park that's got all the azaleas blooming.]
no subject
You sure this isn't a date?]
Alright. Then let's head that way.
no subject
This is going to be really hard to explain out loud if he ever tries to, but he's exercising a practiced skill at not thinking about it too hard to keep him happily innocent for now.]
The park's nice, too.
[The azaleas by the entrance are an odd kind, with spindly, long-petaled flowers in a peach-gold shade that makes them look almost spidery against the dark green leaves. He brushes a fingertip over one.]
... Man, I'd love a cutting of this. It'd look great in the corner of Sakura's garden.
no subject
[It's an easy question to ask, even if he does stop briefly to look at the azaleas.
He doesn't dare to touch it, knowing that one slip up might freeze it.]
...Why not buy some azalea seeds then? I'm sure they sell it in a flower shop.
no subject
[Since he can't really layer branches in someone else's park... he laughs cheerfully, shrugging.]
Maybe I'll come back later with some shears! It's a little overgrown, right?
[It's not really, but look, he's trying to justify himself here.]
no subject
Then a side eye look.]
Right. I haven't seen anything.
["So go ahead and cut it" remains unsaid. It's not necessarily permission, but Toushirou isn't exactly one to feel bad about this sort of thing.]
no subject
[He claps a friendly hand on the god's shoulder. So he doesn't have wet paper towels and a pair of shears on hand right now, but he can come back and steal a cutting later!
It's totally fine. It won't even show. He'll be very careful, and probably have to confess a (minor) theft to Sakura later, but it'll look great in her front yard once it's rooted....]
Do you do any gardening?
no subject
At the question, he shakes his head.]
Not particularly. With my powers, it can be a bit difficult maintaining it. [It's amazing the garden in his temple is still vibrant and alive as it is.]
no subject
[True friends always enable. Right?]
-- Oh yeah, though, that ice thing. I bet that is tough on plants.
[He frowns thoughtfully. There are some plants that hold up pretty well to ice -- okay, so they're mostly trees, but not all; he'll have to do some research...]
no subject
He tilts his head.]
...I can crystallize it, perhaps, but I'm still not sure how well that would work out.
no subject
[He's trying to envision this, and coming up blank.]
... Like making it into an ice sculpture?
[That'd make a gorgeous garden, but there's something a little sad about the image of a garden where everything's just ice, never changing, blooming or growing.
Even if that also means it never fades.]
no subject
[Why do you think he's never touched his own garden aside from making sure it doesn't die?
He's not good with plant life.]
But either way, it wouldn't really help the flower in the end.
no subject
... I should see if I can find you some cold-hardy plants.
[He winks cheerfully at Hitsugaya and points up ahead, where a little food truck is set up with a bright red-and-white awning. A chalkboard next to the counter lists all of their specialties, from the cheesecake-and-chocolate dessert style to a couple of savory salad crepes, and plenty of fruit varieties in between.]
There's the crepe stand!
no subject
[He looks over in the direction where Tsuzuki is pointing.]
Let's go and get some crepes then.
