20 | Shopping Frenzy!
Who: Everyone!
What: Helping a grand opening go well
When: August 21
Where: The Near Shore
Summary: The owners and employees at a new shopping center are begging for help. Bad luck has plagued them, and their grand opening is this weekend! Gods and shinki alike have been asked to respond to their prayers on Opening Day, find the source of their misfortune and ensure that the opening goes smoothly.

The Yamada Corporation is opening a new, high-class department store in a Tokyo suburb. They've been running advertisements for weeks and excitement among their prospective customers is at a fever pitch. Unfortunately, things inside the project aren't going so well. Construction has been delayed, deliveries are wrong, employees keep getting sick or hurt on the job and it's starting to look like the grand opening will be a grand disaster. Their fervent prayers for help have reached the Heavens, who are passing them along to you to be granted... but with an addition: Heaven, too, is very interested in learning where that bad luck is coming from.

Maintenance Madness
- For a brand-new building, Yamada Department Store is having a lot of maintenance issues. Toilets are overflowing, lights are burning out, stair railings are coming loose, and either the air conditioning is set so cold there's frost on the vents or it's not working at all. The overworked maintenance crew needs all the help they can get! How many gods does it take to change a light bulb?
Secret Shoppers
- Are you really going undercover to make sure you stop problems before they start, or just enjoying a day of high-class shopping on Heaven's dime? Whatever your real motivation is, all expenses are covered... but you'll still want to keep an eye out for mishaps. Unfortunately, the grocery and bakery in the basement are under construction (they've had some flooding problems) but there are still six floors of designer clothes, consumer goods and restaurants to enjoy.
Retail Rescue
- Between mysterious accidents and that nasty flu that seems to be going around, the department store is badly understaffed. Grab an employee uniform and someone else's nametag and pitch in before the lines get too long. There are positions open in every department, from the restaurant on the top floor to book sales on floor one.
It's not just sales and service you have to worry about: thanks to the store's misfortune, displays are toppling over, the wrong orders are coming in, fancy candies are melting all over the shelves and ink tags are exploding on their own. This is hard work!
Intrepid Investigators
- The Heavens aren't just sending so much supernatural help to this department store to keep their faithful followers happy. They have reason to suspect that there's something more sinister behind this mysterious streak of extra-bad luck. Between keeping the lights on and the customers happy,
you've been asked to search the store and investigate all of the "unlucky" incidents in order to determine what's going on. The shinki who brought you this request hinted that Heaven would look favorably on anyone who uncovered something particularly useful....
If your character is investigating the department store and needs to know what they have found, please comment to the "Investigations" thread below with a link to your thread. Your hint will be provided.
Investigation threads longer than 10 comments will earn 200 followers for every god in the thread and 20 exp for every shinki. Once your thread reaches that length, please turn it in by replying to your hint under the "Investigations" thread to let us know you've earned the bonus.

In Summary:
- Keep the lights on
- Take some time out to enjoy a shopping trip
- Make sure the customers are happy
- Discover the cause of the bad luck
- Have fun~

[ Because of all these toilets, and sinks, and pipes, there's a whole lot of water on the bathroom floors. So D2 is wielding a mop and trying to keep it from flooding over, and tightening pipes, so the costumers won't have to walk through ankle-deep pools of water if they want to use the toilet or wash their hands or whatever. At the moment, there seems to be no end to it, which is just friggin' fantastic. The look on his face probably tells just how happy he is with the never-ending amount of new leaks. Which is, you know, not at all happy. ]
Secret Shoppers
[ Since D2 was going to do some shopping either way, this is great timing. Primarily he gets stuck in the office supplies section, where he looks at all the, well, office supplies. But there's the household goods section, where he's looking at cooking utensils and things of that sort, and the book/movie/music section. Maybe he's taking a bit too long at deciding between some things, but you don't have to make alarm clocks go off and startle him all the time... Though who keeps misplacing them (on purpose? by mistake?) is a mystery. ]
Retail Rescue
[ The intention was to help out at this one shoe store, but the plans derailed pretty quickly. Because some parents brought their children with them, and the children, bored with trying on shoes and just waiting, had started playing with soap bubbles. And when one had (probably unintentionally) blown a stream of bubbles toward D2 (currently wearing a name tag saying "Hayashi" or some other similar name), D2 had pulled back and out of the way...not entirely because of surprise. It barely had anything to do with surprise. His back hitting a shelf and sending a few shoes to the floor had caught the children's attention and it didn't take them very long for them to realize that for some reason, this adult seems to be frightened of the innocent bubbles. Or maybe they think it's a game. Either way, there's a large crash when D2 tries to escape by backing up further, pressing further into the shelf in the corner and trying and failing to keep his breath even, and equally trying and failing from letting out strangled noises of fear. Of all the things to freak out over, he never expected this--not that he's thinking that, or much of anything, at the moment. The shoe store isn't the only place it happens in, either. Who even gives that many children free reign with bubbles?
Somebody save him from these devilish (not really) children. ]
Intrepid Investigators
[ After those mishaps, D2 just wants to get away from mortal children for a while. So he heads for the closed down basement, and to lighten his mood and get into an investigating mood, he's humming a somewhat out-of-tune (to some people probably familiar) melody. Because he had intended to look around the area from the start either way.
He's sneaking around corners very sneakily. Well, not really, considering his humming. But pretend-sneakily, at least. ]
secret shoppers
[As D2 is jerking away in surprise from yet more alarm clocks, he might find himself passing by the cooking utensil aisle where Chikusa is sitting on the floor with various boxes scattered around him. The lanky teenager doesn't even look up, just stays slouched in place focused on one box in particular.]
no subject
Does that mean that you keep getting ambushed by alarm clocks too?
no subject
[His general slow speech (although a little slower right now) might make it hard to pick out his pause, but he does stop for a second there.]
....I think.
no subject
[ He sighs. It’s starting to go on his nerves, too. ]
Definitely.

After awhile though, Kairi suddenly can't see D2 anymore before looking around for him. That's when she spies him walking around and tries to follow him. She doesn't recognize the song at all. ]
Hey, are you feeling okay?
[ Maybe he's looking for a corner to get sick in. ]
no subject
But he’s not as tense any more, and isn’t pale as a sheet. (He’s always “pale as a ghost” since he’s a ghost, so that analogy doesn’t really work these days.)
He does jump a little when he suddenly hears a voice, but he quickly realizes with a sigh of relief that it’s only Kairi, and not more kids out to terrorize him. ]
Ah... Yeah, sort of?
no subject
[She comes closer so that she doesn't have to raise her voice too much.]
I was worried when I saw you pulling away. Bad memories or something?
[She thinks she can relate a bit as a fellow shinki.]
no subject
[ Sort of because he’s not entirely alright. ]
I have no idea... [ He shakes his head. ] Not that I can remember. I don’t know why but, I freaked out a bit...
[ “A bit”. Right. Just “a bit”. ]

It seems I'm a bit late down here, if there's already people checking it out.
[Not that that's going to stop her, but if they all end up finding the same thing, it's unlikely to be a great deal of help.]
no subject
I dunno, maybe I’m the one who’s late. I haven’t been down here very long yet.
[ Heee, thinks, at least. But he might have lost track of time in trying to distract himself. ]

Tapping her heel in a damp spot on the ground, she looks around with a curious frown.] Still, it's strange. For somewhere that's supposed to have flooded, nothing looks damaged.

Are you alright---
[She finds that the kids are fine, but instead, it's Carl-D2-- who's surrounded by fallen shoes. She's about to ask what happened, when she sees the look on his face. Alex recognizes that expression all too well, and quickly looks back at the kids. While she's not sure what exactly is scaring him, it's most definitely got to do with them. Not waiting any longer, she moves in front of the kids, crouching down in front of them to get between them and D2.]
Hey there! It looks like you're having a lot of fun over here, but see, my friend needs to get back to work or he's going to get in a loooooot of trouble, and if the store manager passes by and sees this, you might get in trouble too. So could you guys play outside for a bit while we clean up over here, please?
[Her voice is sweet, but stern, and she doesn't move from that spot till they decide to leave. When they do, she quickly heads to D2, but slows down once she's close enough and crouches in front of him.]
Ca--D2..can you hear me? They're gone. The kids are gone.
no subject
He does finally, though, manage to focus, at least partially, on her, and his voice comes out as a quiet, frightened croak, almost like he’s been screaming even though he hasn’t. ]
A-Alex...?
[ It’s all he manages, at the moment. ]
no subject
When he finally says her name, she immediately replies to him.]
Yes, it's me. I'm here.
[She reaches out for the hand clinging to the shoe, placing her own on top of his to try and urge it to let go or to at least relax a little. With her other hand, she slowly reaches behind his head and brings him closer so that her shoulder obstructs his view of whatever it is he might be seeing. She hoped it would help, as it usually did with her or with another friend who went through a similar situation.]
It's okay..there's nothing here that can hurt you....Do you want to go somewhere else?

Maintenance Madness
[Forrest gestures with his hand, and the water that's accumulated on the floor so far is magically swept away.]
no subject
If there are holes I can plug those and I can tighten stuff but I can’t do a lot. But yeah, sure.
no subject
It's better than nothing. Let's give it a try.
no subject
Alright, yeah.
[ He pulls a wrench out of his pocket to tighten a loose bolt. ]
Tell me if you find any--- [ Why is this pipe suddenly spilling water on his head? At least it's clean but come on! That had to be on purpose. ] .....more...
