Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training
- Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.
Shinki Training
- Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.
An area of the practice ground has been marked off for shinki to practice borderlines against one another. There are several big buckets filled with beanbags that have been generously dusted with colored chalk powder. Shinki can pair up and practice throwing beanbags at one another while trying to deflect the beanbags with a borderline.
Physical Training
- The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.
- Rabbit Mask.
- Volcanic Stone.
- Sneakers, 21.5cm.
- Cloth Blindfold.
- Moon Cake.
- Badminton Paddle.
- Calligraphy Brush.
- Red Maple Leaf.
- Blue Teacup.
- Gray Shirt.
A table towards one side of the training area, manned by two of Amaterasu's shinki in white and gold, has a stack of big tote bags and a scavenger-hunt list taped down to the table. It's a chance for gods to practice teamwork with their new shinki, or just have a little fun while helping newcomers learn their way around the Heavens. The list reads:
Rest and Refreshments
- The weather is nice, but there are still plenty of tables of bottled water or bottled sports drinks provided to ensure that no one gets dehydrated. Plates of small snacks are also available, mostly seasonally appropriate ones like rice cakes, mikan oranges, roasted chestnuts and toasted crackers, but also candy and snack bars.
Some leftover party games from the moon viewing are set up in a grassy area of the gardens, and Bishamon's younger shinki are eagerly playing tag, blind-man's buff, badminton and flying kites there. They'll happily welcome anyone who wants to join in, although those who wander too far past the party games into the gardens may find themselves greeted by one of the adult shinki who will politely usher them back to the training area.

In Summary:
- Get all the information you can handle
- Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
- Get in some training
- Complete a scavenger hunt
- Spectate if you want
- Have fun~
[what do they want a rabbit mask for, anyway?]
[This... could take some getting used to.
[It is no secret by now - if it ever was - that Kija is Not Entirely Happy with the whole shinki business. Duties are duties, and of course he has to have one: it is simply that he thinks it is unnecessary and unfair and, if left to himself, would really rather not--
[That had been before the whole shinki business had involved an engaging child. She should by rights not even have been eligible for the position - and yet here she was. A wide-eyed, long-haired girl, for heaven's sake, whose age he had yet to be able to make a guess at. The outlandish clothes did not help in that department. Nor did the fact that she was looking for - Kija consults the list they have been handed - wait, it was a rabbit mask. Not an actual rabbit. And there he had been thinking that the major problem with searching for a rabbit while calling after it was that rabbits were shy, retiring creatures who did not as a rule understand Koukan.]
Perhaps we should start with the maple leaf. That seems simplest.
[And like something not even we could mistake for anything else.
[That too.]
[this is still good!]
She's at a bit of a loss regarding things, but a scavenger hunt seems like a good way to break the ice and work together. Team work!]
That's a good idea. All we have to do is find a tree! [And there were a number of those! Turning toward a grove she pauses... and then blinks.]
Kija-san? [Bending over she picks up a leaf between her fingers. It's not exactly the right kind.] Do you know which kind of tree is a maple tree?
no subject
[They just look different here. But... no, he is sure he should be able to find something.
[Besides, if he is unsure, by simply arriving in this place he has been provided with a small shiny box that contains the sum total of all human knowledge and experience. It should be more than capable of informing him what the people here believe a maple should look like.]
Their leaves, I believe, will be bright red at this time of year.
[That?
[That is not a maple leaf. Oh, dear.]
no subject
Kija-san is so knowledgeable! You must be the god of wisdom!
[Or he's simply been able to explain more to her since her arrival here than most. She's happy he agreed to do the scavenger hunt with her. It's more peaceful, too, than the practice with other shinki, earlier.]
I met some of your friends earlier too.... Yona-san? And Zeno-san too. [She's trying to recall all their names. There have been a number of introductions today so far.] Are they from the same place as you? Before you became a god here?
no subject
[Which is honestly far more suitable.
[That - rather proving his point - being about where his knowledge of his namesake ends, Kija is glad when Kobato moves onto the more familiar, and much more welcome territory that is his family. It is only a shame that she should have met them already, that he could not tell her everything there is to know about them all first, and then effect a sufficiently impressive introduction.]
Then you have met the Princess? How did you find her? I am sure she was most gracious!

2/3
The princess...? Is that Yona-san? [It must be. She nods cheerfully.]
She came to my rescue earlier.
3/3
I ran around a lot and for some reason it really wore me out. I wasn't feeling very well but right when my feet were about to give out she ended up helping me to a chair to rest. [She hopes she isn't the only shinki who can't seem to keep up with even children...]
She stayed with me until my legs felt less wobbly and we talked about a number of things.
1/2
2/2
[But were the circumstances that distressing? Kobato's embarassment is plain; the reason, alas, far less so.]
I trust you will not object to meeting her again? If we are to work together, you will certainly be seeing her often.
no subject
[Learning that she will get to see these people beyond the day makes her glad. She still needs to get to know everyone and that will undoubtedly take some time, but it will be time well spent. Meeting others, making connections and spending time pleasantly together sounds like more than she could ask for.]
I'm glad! This means I'll get to see them all once more! I hope that I can become friends with everyone too. And in the meantime...!
[She puffs herself up proudly]
They told me to protect you for them, so Kobato will do her best!
no subject
They told you that?
[The first thing Kija thinks is that this is hardly necessary. Of course, he does not want to trouble his friends; of course they must want to ensure his safety as much as he does theirs - but he is Hakuryuu, he has been entrusted with the power of the Gods. The proper ones, the Gods of his homeland, not the ones who walked the Far Shore and certainly not the dubious deities who ruled over this realm. His duty is to protect, not to demand that from another.
[The second, far more alarming thought: She is going to get killed.]
I prefer to look at this as a partnership. I do not wish you to think you must serve me...
[And I certainly do not want you getting killed because of me and oh, this is getting uncomfortable.
[There has to be a maple tree around here somewhere.]
1/2
Do you not want me to? [To protect him. But... that was the reason gods had shinki to begin with, right? She doesn't want to fight, but surely even she can help protect him.]
2/2
Look--
[Stepping forward she cuts through the air, calling out as she does so.]
Line!
[The borderline that appears is small and weak at best, but it's there. She's managed to do this much even if it's small right now.]
It's not very good yet... but I'll get stronger.
no subject
[That really was not what he meant.
[And yet her actions leave him strangely reassured. True, Kobato's first attempt at a borderline is small and shaky, and serves to do not much more but stir up puffs of dust, a handful of leaves. It is what it represents that is so heartening: the attitude it implies, the earnest effort, all speaking of a certain sympathy between them. Kija never has known how to handle people who simply do not want to try: never much wanted to, either. He likes this side of her. He understands it.]
Of course you must take your responsibilities seriously, and I am glad you do. But I want us to work together.
1/2
[If she's honest the prospect of fighting ayakashi is scary. She'd like to help people before it gets to a point that ayakashi would appear to begin with. But she wouldn't just leave anyone defenseless, either.]
2/2
[Punching the air!1!!]
MAPLE LEAF-SAN!
