Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

[As it happened, Marinette had spotted the black clad, brightly-helmeted figure shortly after she'd arrived. In the excitement, she'd gotten distracted before she could go over and say hello, but as she'd spotted her again she decided to just go for it before she could be distracted again.

To that end, she was drinking her water on the move as she followed the figure down the path. It didn't take her long to catch up, and she hurried to close the remaining distance when she realized that the figure was in the process of actually trying to leave.]

Hey, wait!

[She was running now, determined to get there before she lost another opportunity to say hello, and flailing her arms in an attempt to get the figure's attention.]

[Goodness, it was such a relief to meet someone so easygoing.]

[ He lifts the sword and starts cutting through the hoard while keeping an eye on Chinatsu. He'll step in if she needs help, otherwise he'll let her be. ]

[Soon as she's on her feet and ready to take it out on the dummy, Trunks pivots and steps back. Then back some more; near enough to be ready if she needs help, but not in her way.

Said dummy has been knocked around quite a bit, and finally is on the ground, when she's winded and catches her breath.]

It might be a side-effect of whoever made them this way.

[And that dummy's getting back up, so Trunks is just gonna step forward again and give it a good hard strike to knock it back down. Also away from them for a bit.]

I can see what they were going for, but it is hard on those not used to this kind of training all the time. Or for those who aren't expecting it, since some of these dummies have gone after almost anyone.

[He'll be more polite in a bit. He's making sure that dummy won't give her much more trouble while she's catching her breath.]

[Something is off, but Trunks can't quite place it. Maybe it's just stress, as Hakkai did seem to involve himself in a lot of things.]

Ah, I should've offered you a different one. Although really they're all kind of too sweet, if you ask me.

[His head tilts, studying the God for a moment, as there was something about the way that question was phrased. Maybe it'll come to Trunks in a bit, maybe it's just his imagination.]

For the most part today, I was keeping an eye out. Whoever made the straw dummies attack back, did too good a job in some cases. Not everyone is used to that kind of relentless attacker. Not everyone is actually used to having an active training partner at all, for that matter.

What about you? Handing out more pamphlets for your school? Which has been really useful by the way, and I have recommended you to a few people.

[She'd realized quite soon after her arrival that she couldn't feel Tikki. Which meant that she couldn't transform, and so she had no access to the only weapon she was accustomed to using.]

Maybe there's something else here that would work for me.

[That had been mostly rhetorical, but she couldn't help feeling slightly irritated when, instead of giving her an answer, he shuffled off just as abruptly as he'd appeared.]

... Alrighty then.

[Finding herself alone again, she was torn between going back to trying to find a suitable substitute for her yoyo and following him. In the end, she settled for the former because she wasn't feeling up to chasing anyone just now.]

[ That kind of speed... He takes note of it but says nothing as he drags the puppet away from him before it tries to kick him again. He moves across the field, dragging the thing behind him as it struggles to go after him again, but Zero's picking up a piece of rope heading for a tree to tie it down with. He slams the thing down against the tree while slapping a hand over its head and suddenly it drops down with a crash making a hole in the ground as its density is increased dramatically making each movement a struggle. Zero lets go of it then and casually ties it down while it's incapacitated. Only when he's done, does he return its density and suddenly it's struggling like a wild animal again but this time it's tied down to a tree, freeing the Hunter. ]

[There's probably an apology due for how bad Chikusa is at people, but he's sure never going to be the one to give it.]

[Still, after a good five minutes or so, there's the sound of shuffling again, and a yoyo lightly bumps into her back.]

....I want to see.

[Which is barely much of an explanation, but still. Carefully, Chikusa starts to slide the loop off of his finger. His yoyo has been 'defanged', so to speak. There's still the matter of the dangerous state of the string, which is more like a wire in some ways.... but the finger loop and some of it after that is made with delicate flesh in mind. As long as she's not aiming at, like, herself, he figures she should be fine.]

[Well, it wasn't like he was expecting to not be noticed... This was also the first time he'd been scolded via phone screen.]

Then I'll put it out. [His calm tone didn't at all convey the resolute look in his eyes.] I'd rather deal with that over not burning it at all.

Never too late to me

[ There's a unique sound that occurs when you suddenly get the air yanked out of your throat. One that Charlotte would hear and Judar would feel as he's pulled back. Which is when he partially turns and twists the rest of his head to stare at the woman who tugged him.

His makeup was in great condition, and the jewelry he had on was of high quality. He could belong to royalty. ]

Judar. Also someone that thinks these drinks smell and taste like they deserve to be dumped where not even pigs could try them.

[ Oh, did he accidentally dump a bunch on you? He can see that your look was ruined. ]

You're gonna want to clean up.

It's not like they're expecting you to literally birth anything. Spawning something doesn't mean it's gotta be from your body.

[ Where even someone who has no idea what a laptop or rpg is understands spawn points... The world is a strange place. ]

[ He leans against the table, crosses his arms and waits. He has all day, kid. ]

[ Yeah, well...

He's booking it. Right now. He got up and turned around for running with way more ease than he probably should. It's fine, Zero. That's why they let him grow out his hair as long as it is. ]

[He doesn't think he's lying, he's just curious to what Judar is seeing that he isn't]

I can fly you around some if you want. There are other people that can fly besides me, maybe you just haven't figured out how to yet! I didn't know I could fly at first either.

[ A smirk as he takes off. He's faster than he looks and within a blink of an eye he's in front of him and moving to grab him around the waist to pull him up off the ground. ]

Because you gotta do this whole gesture and call it out. If anything it should just be one or the other.

[ Which is his way of compromising on the necessity of the spell. What he's seeing is aesthetic more than anything else. ]

If I can, there's no way I'm not taking too long to figure it out. Maybe there's some kind of magic for it...

That's right.

[ The hits land but they do little damage, vampires after all, can take a few hard hits. ]

But you're not being efficient with your free hit. You only get one surprise hit. The others you'll have to fight for so make the first one count.

[ He gets close. ]

Use your free hand and aim for the nose. Use your palm and strike up. You'll make them hurt and maybe bleed. And if that doesn't work, go for the eyes.

[ See, yanking his braid and pulling him back would've been more normal. This was weird and humiliating.

In fact, it's why there's knees and bare feet digging in as Judar tries climbing out of this hold. ]

Hands off! Just go back to the hole you came out from and leave me alone you weird albino.

[ The smirk doesn't leave as his knees and bare feet go through him, his density selectively lowered enough to phase through him. ]

Clean up your mess.

[ You see, he's rather insistent about this. ]

[She wasn't likely to regret the decision she'd made, because really, she needed to find something to use here. There was no guarantee that she'd be seeing her yoyo again and she needed to have a back up plan. Unfortunately, things didn't appear to be going any better now than they had been before she'd been interrupted.

Marinette wasn't sure how much time had passed before she heard the same vague shuffling as before, but she hadn't been quick enough to turn around and now she was blinking as something small bumped into her back.]

What?

[She was spinning around now, head tilting curiously as she glances down at the yoyo.] What do you want to see? [She's probably going to regret asking, but it's too late to take the words back now. What if she's not as good when she's Marinette as she is when she's Ladybug? Even still, she's excited by the thought of even trying.]

I'm definitely not gonna now.

[ He can be just as insistent. Stop being so freaky, you weirdo. ]

How you fight...

[Belatedly, it occurs to him that he needs to bother with the effort to make himself a little more understood, and not just get carried away with his own interest. With the yoyo on its own now and not attached, he holds it out.]

...I've never heard of anyone else using it before.... at least as a weapon.

[It's enough of an oddity that he can't help but be curious. Besides, who knows- it might be useful to know.]

[To be honest, Sakon's not smart enough on the best of days to immediately tell the difference.

Which is why his immediate reaction is to panic more.]

Hey! Hey! Can you hear me? Are you okay?!

[Yelling probably isn't going to help, but...]

I appreciate the advertising. No, I've just been looking around today. It's been an interesting week.

[What with dying, coming back to life without his memory, being kicked out of his temple, finding out his best friend lost a hand and hates him, and losing his exemplar...

... "interesting," in the sense of the old curse, yes. He considers the young man again, gaze going slightly unfocused. He's not a youkai, but there's something distinctly nonhuman about his energy, that prickles at the edge of Hakkai's perceptions. Odds are, he supposes, that he's asked about it already.]

Having a training partner that fights back does push them to improve faster, I suppose, but it's nice of you to keep an eye out for the inexperienced ones.

Aren't we already dead? How is that supposed to work?

[He may not remember anything about who he was before he arrived here, but he got the message loud and clear that this is Heaven and the only way he'd be here is if he's dead. And that seems like the right answer, one that there is no more need to think about.]
