Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

[ He's low-key a little freaked out, but this whole thing is really weird, but he's pretty sure that didn't count. Even more, part of him didn't like just being some tool to be used. ]

I'm not in pain if that's what you wanna know. It's weird being some thing in your hand, but also a sense of being me. Just as it's fucking disorienting to be talking but also knowing you don't have a mouth to speak with in the physical sense.

He also gets the challenge. While pulling the wand out of his top, there's a bit of consideration before shrugging and putting it away. In reality, he knew that he wasn't ready because there was too much, and it's not like he really knew or remembered how to use it all. Though he did have a gut feeling... ]

It'd take years to show all the commands, combinations and formulas that I've got in my head. Just know that it's a lot.

Shinki training II

[Goten blinks at him curiously, his own borderline standing bright and strong. He's worked hard on getting it that way instead of just blasting a hole in the ground. Though when his attention does drift to Judar, the line slow fades away.]

[ He was about to continue until he glanced over at the source of the young voice. He wasn't expecting there to actually be kids here. Man, talk about a fucked up circumstance. Enough to almost laugh at. Almost. ]

[ It's not as if he's sharing the reason why it's gonna take a while to get things set up. It's kind of a headache, literally. Yet it doesn't change the fact that he's being a cocky little shit without anything to back it up right now.

He's also not interested in hearing about your knowledge of cooking and cleaning, so maybe it's best no one knows about how much you know with that. ]

[It's an interesting thing to be able to hear someone's facial expressions. The way their voice raises or falls or becomes harsh with a certain emotion that surely reflects on their face. He can hear the smile by the friendly inflection of Gohan's voice.]

You seem as if you know this place well enough. How long have you been here, if I may ask.

[Archer actually knows the headache coming from having too much knowledge. The funny part is that most of it is related to weapons or magecraft, not to his hobbies.]

[Ignis hears the gentle shuffling in place and wonders if it's safe to assume she has taken a seat. Since he can't hear anymore hoof beats and he feels a sort of relaxed presence, he takes that as a yes and settles himself onto the ground slowly. He sits with his legs crossed in a pretzel.

At the slight joke, there is a slight upturn of the corner of his lips right before it falls again with the weight of thought.]

So then you favor the concept of camaraderie. Is it safe to assume that other gods may not share the same views then? The concept was presented to us as being more or less "owned" by our gods.

And what sorts of powers are we bestowed as shinki?

[These gods that he's meeting don't seem so...godlike to him.]

[ Oh, when he gets this all sorted in his head, he's going to figure out the most painful and destructive spell and use it while you sleep. He'd do it now, but Judar actually knows that he doesn't really have much past his words. ]

Who's the one suggesting what I should get when I just showed up in these dumb clothes, huh? Well, they're really high quality and the jewelry's probably real, but it's still dumb. Do you really think I want to stand out like this, or even show up knowing I'm dead? Seems like I'm not the one that lacks sense.

[ It is kind of overwhelming. See, now you've got him crossing his arms and going to sit instead of continuing this from the practice area. ]

[Ignis follows the verbal directions as well as the sounds that accompany it. He lets his hand reach out slowly until his fingertips bump gently against the top of the bottle. He then more assuredly grasps it and opens it up to take a drink.]

[The loudmouthed shinki continues to shout facts about the things on the table far too energetically and Ignis feels it's actually rather irritating.]

[ What the fuck...?

Sanzo isn’t unaccustomed to people stammering and obviously terrified to speak to him, but it’s usually after he’s fired off a warning shot or four. For a long moment, he can’t decide how he should respond. He settles on being decidedly exasperated. ]

What the hell’s wrong with you? [ Not that he really wants her to answer that. ]

[ She manages to preempt his protests, but only barely. None of this is something he wants to hear, but it makes an unfortunate amount of sense. ]

Whoever they are, they didn’t choose well. [ Then, quieter: ] How many more bad choices were made?

[ That was the real question. If nothing else, where the hell were her people? Hassan, he’s certain, would rather lose a limb than lose track of Sharak in this kind of situation. Then again, it wasn’t like he could stop her. She was a force of nature in that regard. ]

[Archer crosses his arms too. He doesn't mind occasional challenge, so it's fine. He's not going to start feeling bad for you.]

What, you think any of us has a choice? Everyone appears in clothes they usually wore and is dead. The difference is in how you react and if you antagonize others.

[ This guy does know Sharak. He knows that kind of watchfulness, that’s something taught by experience, and he’s certain she’s drawn a gun on him. There are no signs that he’s been shot in the face, so he can only assume that this guy does have at least some semi-cordial acquaintanceship at the very least.

But Sharak is good with people, so it isn’t that much of a surprise. It’s not enough to allow him to drop his guard, but it helps. ]

The thirty-first of China, Genjo Sanzo. We’re- [ A brief pause, long enough to light up his cigarette. ] -associates. [ It’s an entirely mild introduction, as far as a Sanzo’s introductions go. ]

[ He's probably one of the few who would find a way to go around if he had been shot in the face. But really, now that he's pretty sure that the priest's only going to smoke for now, it's enough for him to relax and drink the water he grabbed. Not the kind of thing he wants, but it'll do. ]

[ He was about to ask who else the guy could be looking for, but then realized all of the complications. Even more, what if this was someone that shouldn't cross paths with the others. Which is why he cut himself off. ]

Ah, never mind. Sharak'll probably fill you in on what you need to know about when you catch up with her.

He chuckles.]
