Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

i. Physical Training

[ He's used to marksmanship practice but it's been awhile since he last picked up a sword. The weight feels familiar. He swings it around a few times, getting a feel for it's balance before he goes up against one of the enchanted dummies. Unfortunately, the tactile wooden figures aren't so house trained as he hoped and when one of them goes rogue and moves to attack a passerby-- ]

Look out!

[ He wastes no time in using his supernatural speed to shield the passerby from the oncoming attack. ]


ii. Refreshments

[ Zero is nowhere near the games, but he is taking a break away from the crowd. He's got a waterbottle with him and is currently opening up a pomegranate (where did he get that?) before his bloodlust raises its ugly head. ]

i.

[Toushirou isn't oblivious to the wooden figure heading for him. In fact, he moves to withdraw his sword when Zero suddenly comes and shields him. The smaller god gives the smallest twitch at that, though he does relax a bit.]

You didn't need to do that.

[ The wooden sword breaks against the hand he used to shield, the pieces falling to the ground as the god grabs the enchanted figure before it has a chance to escape. ]

Yes, I did.

Thank you then.

[He relaxes his grip on his sword and allows his hand to drop to his side.]

[ Before he can say anything, the wooden dummy suddenly twists in his grip which has him holding the thing more tightly without realizing that it's aim was to gain enough momentum to slam a foot into the other god. He yanks it back but it's a second too late.]

[Fortunately, his instincts are rather good, so he manages to avoid that altogether. Even if the method means his form flickering out of existence for the briefest moment before he reappears in midair, looking fairly unimpressed with the wooden dummy.]

[ He slams the thing back down, his hold tightening, even as he catches the god's movement. He was fast. Faster than he could track with his eyes.... was that part of his god powers? ]

You should leave. It doesn't seem to like you.

[ Like at all because it's still struggling to go after him. ]

Somehow, I doubt that even if I leave, it won't stop so easily.

[He....sounds reasonably annoyed.][Honestly, what does this thing even have against him?]

[ He's moving across the field, dragging the thing behind him as it struggles to go after him again, but Zero's picking up a piece of rope heading for a tree to tie it down with. He slams the thing down against the tree while slapping a hand over its head and suddenly it drops down with a crash making a hole in the ground as its density is increased dramatically making each movement a struggle. Zero lets go of it then and casually ties it down while it's incapacitated. Only when he's done, does he return its density and suddenly it's struggling like a wild animal again but this time it's tied down to a tree, freeing the Hunter.]

[...Ah.

Well, that's something.

Once Zero incapacitates it, Toushirou comes down for a landing, somewhat bemused.]

.....Is that your power as a god?

I.

[redmare]

[Except Chinatsu yanks him by the back fo his collar to bend him backwards, supporting him from behind so they don’t fall and just barely managing to dodge the dummy’s swing.]

You look out!

[She shoves him to the side when the dummy swings downwards, escaping the other way.]

Geez, I don’t remember tagging in on your training...

[ He's not expecting to be pulled back so the action has him following her lead only so he doesn't drop his weight on her. ]

[ Though, her words have him giving her a look. ]

Then leave.

Too late.

[She responds as she fixes her stance, a sword-length stick in hand.]

I’m not backing down after this thing picked a fight with me.

[Plus, he did try to help her. She owed him for that.]

[ He watches that stance and the sword extending from her hand. ]

Can you even use that thing?

[redmare]

[Chinatsu's eyes narrow, twitching slightly at his comment before she lunges forward to meet the dummy head on. They exchanged a few blows, the the dummy's swings looked much slower compared to Dust's or Reisi's. She ducks to sweep her legs under its own, and the moment it lands on its back, she slams her foot down on its chest, ripping its pole out of its hands.

She can hear a few more approaching, turning to look at him as the dummy struggled beneath her.]

You just gonna stand there or what?

Tch.

[ He picks up a discarded sword and turns his back to her to face off against the oncoming hoard. ]

Don't do anything stupid.

[ He warns her before engaging. ]

Right back at you.

[She rolls her eyes before following after him, taking on one the dummies again. She actually hadn’t tried fighting by someone’s side before—not like this anyway. Although it didn’t necessarily feel like team work.]

[ He lifts the sword and starts cutting through the hoard while keeping an eye on Chinatsu. He'll step in if she needs help, otherwise he'll let her be. ]

[Archer in fact watches him practice for some time, noting the obvious ease with which he handles his weapon. He's not planning to interrupt, butwhen the dummy tries to attack him he's ready to block the attack. Then Zero goes out of his way to shield him.]

Impressive. [Archer doesn't clarify if he means the speed or superhuman reflexes.]

[ He blocks the attack with a raised arm before grabbing the thing before it gets away and attacks someone else. ]

Be careful with them.

[ He tells him, as the thing struggles in his grasp, aiming to throw a kick his way even while behind held down. ]

[Archer blocks the kick easily, moving faster than a human. He shrugs.]

Thanks. [Archer notes that Zero has an acute awareness of his surroundings even during the fight.]

[ That kind of speed... He takes note of it but says nothing as he drags the puppet away from him before it tries to kick him again. [All of it seems rather excessive for a simple training dummy. Archer narrows his eyes at the display of power, curious if it's innate power or a Far Shore one; not every shinki has his vessel name visible (his isn't) and he can't determine if one is god by sight.]

That's one way to take care of the problem. [he says with a raised brow once Zero is back.]

[ He tells him as he starts picking up the training equipment and putting it away. ]
