Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

[She responds as she fixes her stance, a sword-length stick in hand.]

I’m not backing down after this thing picked a fight with me.

[Plus, he did try to help her. She owed him for that.]

[ He watches that stance and the sword extending from her hand. ]

Can you even use that thing?

[Chinatsu's eyes narrow, twitching slightly at his comment before she lunges forward to meet the dummy head on. They exchanged a few blows, the the dummy's swings looked much slower compared to Dust's or Reisi's. She ducks to sweep her legs under its own, and the moment it lands on its back, she slams her foot down on its chest, ripping its pole out of its hands.

She can hear a few more approaching, turning to look at him as the dummy struggled beneath her.]

You just gonna stand there or what?

Tch.

[ He picks up a discarded sword and turns his back to her to face off against the oncoming hoard. ]

Don't do anything stupid.

[ He warns her before engaging. ]

Right back at you.

[She rolls her eyes before following after him, taking on one the dummies again. She actually hadn’t tried fighting by someone’s side before—not like this anyway. Although it didn’t necessarily feel like team work.]

[ He lifts the sword and starts cutting through the hoard while keeping an eye on Chinatsu. He'll step in if she needs help, otherwise he'll let her be. ]

[Even if she did need it, Chinatsu wasn't about to ask for it. As long as she was still standing, she could handle them landing a few blows on her. She would return them right back.

The more they swung at her, the more she adapted and picked up on their timing, evading their attacks more easily. Despite the training she received from others so far, being in an actual battle had her learning on the go. Chinatsu wasn't as fast as Zero at cutting them down, but she managed to take them out steadily, or at least slowed them down by breaking their arms off with strong strikes.]

[ He lets her continue without interference and when they last of the dummies coming after him goes down, Zero turns to look over at her as she dealt with her own last puppet. ]

[redmare]

[She takes the last one down, finally able to try and catch her breath. Straightening her back, she looks over her shoulder towards Zero. Sure enough, all his dummies were slain on the ground.]

See? Nothing stupid.

You still need some work.

[ Did you expect a compliment? ]

[redmare]

Yeah, yeah, I'm working on it.

[She's aware she's a beginner. Chinatsu won't deny her skill level. But she knows she did well all things considered, so she doesn't need any praise from him.]

Any idea what went wrong or did you just piss them off?

It's the spell.

[ The one that was used to make them mobile. ]

It was cast wrong.

[redmare]

Are any more of those going to come after you?

[She looks around to see if any more were incoming, but so far the coast was clear.]

[ He walks off toward the weapon's locker ]

I'll take care of them if they do.

[ They couldn't hurt him, not really. ]

[redmare]

Hmm.

[Chinatsu watches him as he walks towards the weapons, then follows after him. He sure was confident about taking them on on his own.]
