Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

[The Valkyrie dodges backwards practically in a blur, then lunges back in with a rising slash of her sword -- a perfectly-timed counter, demonstration of her skill and training. This one starts by the book.]

[ Suoh is anything but the book. His entire fighting style is devoid of any discipline or practicality, mirroring a man used to fighting by instinct rather than discipline. He takes on that sword with his bare fist, used to fighting against bladed weapons in the same manner. The red aura runs up his arm as his fist connects with the blade, while his power surges forward and suddenly a super heated barrier of red starts pushing in her direction, melting the ground beneath them. ]

[As she expected, all around. His style relies heavily on raw power, which he certainly has no lack of; this power would grievously harm any who possess no especial defense against it. The Valkyrie, quite fortunately for her, is an Aesir, a goddess, and thus a being of spirit above dross matter; the superheated air does little to harm her. The barrier is another question, but her sword is literally unbreakable. It withstands the onslaught, with the Valkyrie's strength behind it.]

[A poor impasse, though. One of them will need to break it; she chooses herself, skipping back two steps with a lightness that belies her armor. She pursues no counterattack, though, hoping to bait him into launching an attack she can more advantageously intercept.]

[ His lips turn up. There's so few opponents who can stand against him that the very act garners a feral grin at the display. ]

Come on!

[ He's excited now and the red aura responds to it by clamoring against its prison to get out and consume her in red. ]

[Hmph. Very well.]

[The Valkyrie rushes forward, barely seeming to touch the ground -- rather than a charge, her advance is more like a wave, as her sword chops down at him in an arc that belies her small frame with its strength. In almost the same move, the moment the sword collides with him, hit or parry, she lunges forward in a sudden sliding kick that gives her the momentum for an upward slash paired seamlessly after.]

[ He's grinning as sword and shield clash, the impact causing a shower of red to rain down on them. Red runs across the King's form, covering his limbs in fire as that sword threatens to come down on him. He gathers more power to keep his stance as the two struggle in place before Mikoto suddenly pulls back and dips down escaping underneath her sword. He jumps up, twisting mid-air to face her as he lets red shoot out of his palm propelling him through the air to meet her in a second clash as he throws his power behind his fist. ]

[This is the opportunity she sought. Her forward shield shoots around to catch the impact of his fist, and in that instant she lunges past it to flank him, her sword descending towards him with the full strength of a goddess.]
