December Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: September 25th
Where: Bishamon's temple, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Play some games
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

God Training

[Just a few hours ago, Tadashi was a normal person with normal responsibilities like like homework and making sure his brother doesn't get himself killed somehow. Currently, he's just been told he's filling in for a god he's never even heard of and has to do his job for a while.

He's more confused than angry, but confusion still isn't a good feeling.]

Nice of them to tell us what's going on, but that was pretty short.

Physical Training

[Training dummies are nice, especially the ones that actually respond to attacks and retaliate. Unfortunately, he's managed to pick one that seems to malfunction more than the others, and instead of returning his attacks, is going after innocent people nearby with a polearm-stick.]

Watch out! Sorry, I don't know why this dummy's going after everything but me.

Rest and Refreshments

[After the training dummy fiasco, comes food! Or...just water, because those protein bars don't look particularly appealing and he's not positive about what they contain. So he's grabbed just a bottle of water and set up a game of Jenga.]

[ A shot rings out as a bullet goes through the dummy's knee, then a second bursts through the other effectively stopping it in its tracks. ]

[That's...one way to stop it.]

I don't think that was really necessary, but thanks...

[ He set Bloody Rose back in its holster. ]

It was broken.

[ And needed to be put down. ]

[Being a hands-on, physical sort of combatant, having a moving target makes the training sessions a lot more interesting.

She is not, however, expecting a second dummy to make its way over and come after her in the midst of her own practice!]

Whoa!

[She's quick enough to catch the polearm in a tight grasp before it manages to hit her, but that just leaves her open to a harmless, yet sound 'Thwap!' on the head from her original dummy.]

O-ow... [Better luck next time, kiddo.]
tadaishi: (very unsure)

They're not very fair, are they? Attacking when their opponent's back is turned.

[He says this as he hits the intruding dummy in the back of the head with a short practice staff to see if it'll come after him properly.]

You okay?
yoshinocherry: (And my skin)

[personal profile] yoshinocherry 2017-12-26 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty used to working in a group, trying to fight alone is a little different... [She lightly rubs the top of her head, soothing out any sting from the attack.]

I'm fine, though! Is yours giving you trouble?

[It sure doesn't seem to be interested in going after him, despite the prodding.]

[So not long after Tadashi sets up that game of Jenga, one of the pieces starts moving. It would be seemingly of its own volition, except for the fact that there's a faint neon orange glow around it.

It slides out carefully, then falls on the ground, the tower still standing.

Looking around enough may reveal the equally neon orange, ghostly-tailed bird person floating several feet above and behind Tadashi, posed as if leaning casually on a chair, except in mid-air with no support.]
tadaishi: (o.o)

[personal profile] tadaishi 2017-12-18 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
[If he hadn't recently achieved godhood and been attacked by animated training dummies, this would be somewhat disturbing. Instead, it's actually fascinating--at least once he gets over a slight shock that the wooden pieces might also attack.]

Whoa! Who--?

He watches the block wiggle it's way out of the stack and drop to the ground before looking around for the person doing the moving. The kid behind him glows the same orange as the block did, so he looks like a likely candidate.]

That was impressive.

[personal profile] redotiertwo 2017-12-18 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Davesprite raises a taloned hand in a casual wave before rearranging himself slightly so he's leaning forward.] It's tiny things telekinesis. I dunno what you're coming from or if you even remember it, but that sounds like a pretty low bar for impressive. Though I've seen shittier powers.

[His tone isn't rude, at least, it's just very chill and neutral. An orange feather slips out of one of his wings and spins to the ground as he shuffles them a bit flatter against his back and gestures to the tower.]

Your move, my dude.
tadaishi: (so then I...)

[personal profile] tadaishi 2017-12-18 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty impressive to me. Where I'm from, you only see telekinesis in video games or done with special effects in movies, so I've never seen it done right in front of my eyes.

[And he's certainly never seen a bird...ghost...harpy thing do it.]

Right. My bad.

[It's easy to remove a block this early in the game, so the tower doesn't fall over when he takes one out either.]

...So...are you a ghost of some kind...?
redotiertwo: (being real here)

[personal profile] redotiertwo 2017-12-19 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like your world was woefully lacking in psychic bullshit. [After Tadashi takes his turn, Davesprite goes again, with another piece surrounding itself with a neon orange glow and sliding out of the tower.]

You mean other than the shinki thing. [Half of them are ghosts, ha ha.] I'm a sprite. Some kind of custom game guide thing from my world, though I don't remember much about it other than that I was made out of a dead bird and a guy who fucked around with time.

[He straightens up into more of a sitting position, revealing something that his hands and wings had largely been hiding earlier - that he has a sword the same colour as his body stuck through his stomach. There doesn't appear to be any associated injury, with the hole it's in being clean and healed, it's just...there.]
tadaishi: (D8)

[personal profile] tadaishi 2017-12-19 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, besides that. You look more like a ghost than the others.

[The shinki at the temple don't look any different from the gods, to him. If Davesprite hadn't said anything, Tadashi would have kept assuming he was a god instead.]

A dead bird and...well, that explains a lot. And you're a...game sprite?

[He turns back to the game, moving around to the other side of the tower before sliding another piece out, so he doesn't have to keep turning around to talk to his game partner. It also means that the sword he missed is now better visible.]

...Is that a sword?
redotiertwo: (well you see)

[personal profile] redotiertwo 2017-12-20 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Fair. Most of the ghosts here don't really look like ghosts. [Though they're supposed to be "spirits" instead of ghosts, or whatever. It's all the same to Davesprite.]

Yeah. Haven't remembered any details, but I remember me before this happened complaining to someone I have remembered that my custom game guide was now shit because she decided it should be a dead bird, so.

[Considering the thing had been right in front of him at the time, he can confidently say it was what the thing looked like before he jumped into it later on. Including the sword, which Davesprite tweaks a bit when it's mentioned.]

Yeah, don't freak out, it's fine. [He draws the sword out of himself and spins it in his hand before reinserting it...and then moving another piece out of the tower as an afterthought.]
tadaishi: (very unsure)

[personal profile] tadaishi 2017-12-21 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Too late he's already freaking out a little internally. But the owner of the sword says it's fine and doesn't particularly seem bothered that it's chosen him as a sheath, so that's somewhat reassuring.

Vaguely.]

Uh huh...

[Let's go back to talk ing about Davesprite.

'Spirit' and 'ghost' are pretty much synonymous in many cases; they're almost the same to Tadashi, though ghosts are more transparent.]

A dead bird's a strange choice. For anything, in a game.

[Not that he knows the circumstances of said game. While he's talking, he works on easing another wood block out.]

redotiertwo: (alright what the fuck)

[personal profile] redotiertwo 2017-12-22 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't know shit about the game, but the sprites are like custom guides as far as I can tell. Jade got upset that I accidentally killed a bird and turning something into a sprite is a kind of life, so she pretty much threw it in.

[Considering all the excuses his past self had been making about not killing the bird, he absolutely killed the bird, not that he knows how he managed to get a sword right through the middle of it.]

I'm pretty sure nobody would've guessed I was gonna have to jump in later as well, though.

[It's funny, because he doesn't have memories of anything. But this dummy trying to come at him with a polearm is quite swiftly unarmed as Izuku snatches it away before it hits.]

... Do you think something's wrong with this one?
tadaishi: (question)

Re: Physical Training

[personal profile] tadaishi 2017-12-20 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
[The dummy apparently doesn't know how to deal with being disarmed...or possibly that it's been disarmed, because it kind of just continues to go through the motions of trying to hit Izuku.]

I think it's bugged.

[He's just going to push it over in case it's sapient enough to rearm itself.]
fullcowl: (060)

[personal profile] fullcowl 2017-12-20 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Izuku doesn't seem that bothered by being hit.

He probably should be, but it's not the worst thing.]

... Can magic get bugged?

[He watches it twitch on the ground with a bit of curiosity.]
tadaishi: (so then I...)

[personal profile] tadaishi 2017-12-20 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
I imagine it could, say if you perform a spell incorrectly.

[Chemistry is sort of like magic, in a way, and it can go explosively wrong if you're not careful.]

[personal profile] fullcowl 2017-12-24 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know enough about spells to properly do any of them. I'm pretty impressed they're moving, actually. I though that was only possible with some sort of mechanical-- Ah. Sorry!

Oh man, not again!

[Better hurry up and corral this one before it whacks this poor bespectacled girl. She's doing her best to run, but she's honestly not all that athletic.]

They're always like that.

[Chikusa isn't a god, but he's sure not giving any indication of what else he could be since he's settled in here like he belongs. It's useful, to see what new gods have arrived.]

Not many of the old gods want to waste their time on newcomers....

[Celty was dealing with a troublesome dummy of her own which kept trying to hug her and nuzzle into her chest, but she was managing to keep it at bay with a mix of borderlines and some black shadowy thorns.

She wasn't expecting the other one though and just barely dodged out of the way as the staff was jabbed at her side. With one hand kept up in focus on the first dummy she swept with the other, another wave of shadow rising up to shove it back.
