Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

[ Look, the only way Judar can feel better is if he's putting someone else down even more. That's how he works. He's not emotionally mature in the least. ]

Yeah, I found him and got named. It's why I figured I'd try out this shinki spell stuff.

If you need help with borderlines and stuff like that, it gets easier if you practice....I bet you get it in no time. You feel weird.

[He doesn't really get why Judar feels weird to him that way but its something he knows is there. It's part of the reason he wandered over to him. He can sense something there...]

Yeah, it's probably like that with all spells...

[ Judar would feel weird to someone like Goten. He has both a small pool of energy and an incredibly large source that seems to just go through him instead of being held inside. The large source is way weirder than the smaller one.

However, being called weird gets his curiosity. ]

Yeah? Well you're probably a little weird yourself.

[sonofson]

Mmmm...borderlines were harder for me to get then the other spells 'cause I kept doing something else. But I don't think you'll have that problem.

[He gives a small shrug before grinning a little.]

Maybe a little, but I don't think so. I can fly and stuff if that counts as weird.

[He even floats off the ground a foot or two to demonstrate for Judar. It's usually the thing people consider weird about him, so might as well get to that now. But being weird is different then feeling weird.]

My problem's how dumb it looks.

[ That's his story and Judar's sticking to it. He's watching as the kid lifts off the ground and... Feels a little envious. Which, in his ability to process and feel emotions, just annoys him more. ]

Man, if I were able to fly, I'd be doing that all the time. Talk about bullshit...

[ Look, his feet are cold and hurt. At least he's not being mean. ]

...How's it look dumb?

[He doesn't think he's lying, he's just curious to what Judar is seeing that he isn't]

I can fly you around some if you want. There are other people that can fly besides me, maybe you just haven't figured out how to yet! I didn't know I could fly at first either.

Because you gotta do this whole gesture and call it out. If anything it should just be one or the other.

[ Which is his way of compromising on the necessity of the spell. What he's seeing is aesthetic more than anything else. ]

If I can, there's no way I'm not taking too long to figure it out. Maybe there's some kind of magic for it...

Mmm maybe no one knows how yet. Hey, maybe you'll be able to do it! Do one or the other I mean!

[If so, Goten wants to see it. Judar may not be able to on his first day but maybe after some practice he would be able to. It doesn't sound impossible.]

Maybe...hey, what if I fly you super high up and let go? Then you can try to figure it out as you fall. It might help.

Yeah, if anyone can, it's probably me.

[ He certainly won't have trouble with the confidence aspect of shinki spells, that's for sure.

What even is that idea though, Goten? ]

... Y'know, kid, you've got good ideas. Don't think that's gonna work in this case, though. I gotta work on this first.

[ To which he pulls a wand, with a large jewel at the tip of it, out of his top. He's got tools to learn first, Goten. ]

[Goten perks up and stares at the wand with growing curiosity.]

What's the stick do?

Magic?

[ He doesn't sound the most sure of that, though. ]

Anyway, if flying's possible, having this makes me think that I can't do it automatically.

[sonofson]

[His eyes widen at the mention of magic. Something about this is just amazing. He's seen fire powers, ice powers, chi related things and freakish durability and strength but never magic!!]

So do whatever feels natural! Think about how you dont wanna be on the ground any more and use your magic to shoot up!

[Goten floats higher, doing a flip as he grins down at him]

I figured out how to do it just from jumping high.

Feels natural, huh?

[ This kid probably doesn't want to hear what feels natural, or what he automatically feels like doing. ]

Well, maybe I'll try jumping high later.
